I've felt that after the loss of my best girlfriend S.S.I. after she decided that actually she wanted to split up and for us to never come in to contact again. While I knew she wasn't dead in some ways it might have been easier to deal with. That pain and abject misery at her absence in my life would go when I followed Tove Lo's advice and stayed high all the time to forget I was missing her - but then the pain, as your song says to my heart, comes in waves, when she's not there...
