Speaking of one handed use, IOS is completely one handed unfriendly. I was hoping for a universal back gesture from the right side of the screen as well as a swipe down from the middle of the Home Screen for notifications. Right now, there is no function for swiping up so that could easily be mapped to search. Two small additional would change the entire way you interact with an iPhone.
Omg yes! I wish there was a back swipe on both sides of the screen. That feature is soooooo helpful on Android phones
Been saying that for years. How dumb to reach to top of a big phone for often used control center. Also would like an android like notification system and a numbers row on keyboard. Watching them introduce math notes, which is very good, but then changing keyboards to use numbers row for it, kinda sums up apples bafflement.
That’s one thing that I hope apple can just implement,I just can’t deal with just only the left side back swipe ,that’s just one thing that i hope apple will introduce
70 % of ios 18 is from one ui 6.1 and 5.1

Everything looks good so far but alot of people are saying how they dont like the new photos app!
Ehhhh I’m not a huge fan. But I feel like it’ll just take some time getting used to it
I'm already not a huge fan of the Photos app and use Google Photos instead (also because it makes it easy to switch back and fourth with my Flip), so sounds like I will continue to do the same.

Why?
ChatGPT is actually the last line of defense - the user will be asked permission to send the query to OpenAI if:
1. The user has opted to allow queries to be sent to OpenAI.
2. Apple's local on-device Small Language Model can't accomplish the request.
3. Apple's Private Cloud Compute Large Language Model which has larger models running on Apple Silicon tries next - due to the way nothing is recorded and how the request is scrubbed after leaving PCC, PCC is essentially simply an extension of the on device AI with the same level of privacy.
4. If PCC can't accomplish the task, the user is prompted to see if he/she wants the request forwarded to ChapGPT.
The user is asked for permission every time ChatGPT is used, and if he/she assents the minimum amount of personal data is transmitted through an anonymized encrypted connection which OpenAI has pledged not to log or profile. In no case is the request recorded except perhaps in conversationally context sensitive tokens on the local AI.
Apple put a lot of thought into this workflow and OpenAI does _not_ have access to your personal data.

Yeah, I didn’t nor will ever need any of the new stuff on ios 18 as it is at present. We’ll see when AI rolls out and Siri finally understands what I want it to do . May take a couple of years before it understands my language though

Lots of things will change when it goes public in September. This is the first iteration and am sure in a couple of cycles ios will catch up. Android is not getting better outside of Samsung there's nothing much. In the current iteration ios has more customizations than that pixel launcher, when 3rd party developers adopt ios18 more robust theme engines will arrive in ios.
Man I tried a new iPhone 15 pro and it honestly felt kind of cheap compared to my 13 pro max. It didn't do anything drastically better. The new AI eh.... kinda cool lol
I think Apple can send AI stuff to the cloud without asking you, but then it's "only" on their so-called private cloud.
Too someone else's computer ...... Like the rest already do. Market it as they will.

It's completely proprietary to the point of the hardware and software. They aren't releasing source code, at this stage just claim they will release versions of machine code, again "trust me bro" this is totes what we running now.
Apple knowing acts in manipulative controlling ways and has been caught with user data compromises previously. Heck even Siri convos.
Like I said they do the big Marketing but if you trust such a giant greedy company with effectively a single share holder driven goal, then sorry that's just nieve. Looking at Apple's on behaviour and history should be enough to question.
@@Spoonfed78 If the on device AI can't get the job done, the request is forwarded to Apple's Private Cloud Compute which features a higher powered model running on Apple Silicon. These machines run an OS with all recording/logging parts of the OS _removed,_ and the request is scrubbed upon completion of the task. The request is sent encrypted and anonymized so essentially PCC is an extension of the on device AI running on a stronger processor with more memory and a more powerful generative model.
Things only get a tad dicey when PCC fails and asks the user if he/she wants to forward the request to ChatGPT.
OpenAI has pledged that they won't log or profile your request or you, and the request arrives encrypted and anonymized - but Apple's not running that compute platform so OpenAI _could_ lie and do something outside their agreement with Apple.
Of course that would put you in no worse condition than if you ran the ChatGPT app, so I guess that when it devolves to a 3rd party AI partner (currently OpenAI's ChatGPT) you're kinda on your own about how much you trust them.

RCS will be encryped when they add encryption to the standard.
Send message later takes place on the server, so your phone doesn't have to be on.
I think on Android the phone counts down and sends the message.
To me, I way past things that I can play with just for the sake of playing with it. I want things that I can actually use! Licking apps, messages via satellite, most of the AI features seem so useful to me! Even the mail app. Yes you can get an app off the App Store, but most of them charge you at some point!
It was running fine on my 15 Pro Max. After beta 2 the battery drain and random app crashes caused me to go back to ios17. Beta 1 was actually fine.
The app locking feature is very important for security reasons
If your carrier doesn’t support RCS, then you won’t have RCS support on iOS
Most carriers will start to support it in the coming weeks and months as iOS begins to deploy in sept

How do you know Rcs will be encrypted? Does apple really use Google's RCS implementation? Cause the standard gsma standard does not include encryption.

The base version for carriers doesn't have encryption so it can work with global local laws. Apple has the choice
@@Spoonfed78 indeed they have the choice and I'll be extremely surprised if they actually adopt the Google encrypted standard. But one can hope. Think much more likely they will see this as an opportunity to say "see green bubbles" are still bad due to not being encrypted.

Im going Apple this year. USB C, I can move the icons anywhere on the home screen, Sirius and Apple Intelligence. Oh and scheduled messages. Yup, good job apple luring me in to try the forbidden Apple.
