Celestial Navigation with Sextant - Introduction

Happy is the navigator who knows where he is!
This is an introduction to astronomical navigation using the sextant. The two main methods are presented, the meridian and the height line. Advantages, disadvantages and a brief introduction to the methodology of each!
During our various crossings, we took out our sextants and tried out astronomical navigation with our crew!
Completely new to the subject at the time of our first measurements, we tried it out on several occasions during our various crossings of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and were surprised by the accuracy of our positions compared with those given by our GPS!
In fact, the majority of easily avoidable errors come from miscalculations once we've taken our measurements!
On the other hand, the other source of error comes from using the sextant and measuring the angle of the sun with the horizon at the given time!

Il ne s'agit pas du zénit , mais du méridien !
2 notions différentes qui engendrent confusion ...
D'autre part en ce qui concerne la méridienne , le soleil culmine et reste fixe quelques minutes . Donc l'opération n'est pas à la seconde prés ...
