This was INCREDIBLE! And Bethany and Drew posted this on the lighthouse's anniversary: 1st June 2017--seven years later! May be my favourite O_O episode yet! Kudos to Hawkins for following through on his desert inspiration 🕯 A constant light, in times of darkness 🙌🏻🙌🏻
What a cool experience that you got the chance to see and share it with us, then getting the artist showing up and getting a one off chance to speak with the artist.
Thank You for the history of the area and introduction with Danial. Listening to him speak was a real treat. Now I must travel from the Monterey Bay Area to check it out !! Very Cool
Major kudos to you, Bethany and Drew. 👍❤👍❤ This has to be one of the best Oddity Odyssey adventures, ever, thanks to your chance meeting with Daniel Hawkins, creator and caretaker of the lighthouse, which led to a guided tour of the structure's interior.
Thank you so much, Noah! We were stunned and delighted at the same time! Daniel is very passionate about his work and we're so grateful for his insights.
Yes! It's so funny because we were actually ready to wrap up and head out. It was such an honor meeting him and we were thrilled to get the chance to show you all inside.
I live in Hinkley and can see the lighthouse from my home. The hill on which it sits has long been known as “Dad’s Hill” in my family as my father used it for his thinking hill since 1966. When the lighthouse first went in, there were no trespassing signs and I was concerned for my dad so I wrote to the artist, Daniel, and explained about my father and asked if he could still drive up there. Daniel was very kind and said of course. I’ve written to him a few times over the years and he’s always been wonderful and gracious. The light is more of a soft glow and doesn’t interfere with enjoying the night sky. A little tip, though…don’t go up the front of the hill when driving out to it. Go past it and go around the back of the hill and it’s much easier to navigate. That little hill is much more steep than it appears. Thank you for such a lovely video and that’s really neat that you met Daniel and could go to the top of the lighthouse! I’ll show my father this video tonight. :)
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Lighthouse! We hope your father enjoys the video and continues to find peace and reflection on Dad's Hill. :)
Really like the intro! How amazing to run into Daniel and get access inside the lighthouse, what a treat. It is a cool project and I can see all those involved being excited. Thank you for taking the journey out there so we could see it😊. Keep up the great work exploring these “Oddities”
What a great find! And you met Daniel and got a tour, what a bonus. When I first saw "Hinkley" I thought, "Hinkley Ohio? They have buzzards AND a lighthouse? How cool!" But no, you guys are down by Barstow...oh well 🙂) I've driven that stretch of 58 a bunch of times and had no idea about the lighthouse. Now I have a reason to go back. Until next time, happy trails!
What a chance encounter and such a nice guy! Fantastic video as always you two! Since you're starting to travel a little more north of the L.A. basin... Did you know there is a crypt Pyramid here in Nor Cal? I'll leave the research to you two (half the fun right?), but here is a key search: The Whitney Pyramid. Take care guys!
This structure could actually be a lifesaver, Put in an APRS digipeater with an igate, a 2m repeater with Echolink or IRLP, a GMRS repeater, or many other communication resources.
Thank you for showing us this desert treasure. When I heard about this lighthouse I went to see it twice but it was not on. When you were having your live feed I submitted this lighthouse for an Odyssey. Thank you for your channel and your exploration in the hi-desert!
Hmmm, what’s wrong with desert night sky? Dudes taken it on himself to push an art project of his on to everyone within 50 miles whether they like it or not.
Wow you guys are soooo lucky to see it from inside! I used to fly high power rockets in Hinkley until the military warned me of the MOA(military operations area). Now even drones at 400 feet sends troops a lookin. There are several open stope mines in the area too. You two are awesome!!!
I feel this is one of your best episodes. It’s certainly one of my favorites. And if it says anything about how I feel - I’ve never commented before. So it made an impact on me.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! This spot holds a lot of meaning for us after we had the chance to meet Daniel and hear his story. :)
I have never heard of this desert lighthouse. Nice art installation! It would be cool if it had RGB color-changing LED fixtures so it was more like the LAX pylons along Century Blvd. but that would probably require a utility provided power source as it would be too demanding on a solar charged battery system to run the lights and control gear.
Daniel lives hours away from the Lighthouse and just happened to stop by as we were heading out. The Lighthouse is fenced off from the public and locked at all times.
Awesome episode! Please consider a reusable water bottle, because I noticed you had a plastic bottle of water. Also I hope the artist considers the bird nest and how disruptive the light would be to the baby birds
What an amazing lighthouse and what luck that he showed up when you were up there. I sure would not want to be near it during a storm, nice lightning rod. Thank you for sharing, stay safe, happy Summer.
@random22026 really. ?? I have been in the lighthouse on a tour. Believe the lighthouse is open once a month for tours. I live nearby will have to do some research.
It's been under renovations until recently which is probably why it was dark. I'd highly recommend going back. It's quite a site at dusk. By the way, your video came up when we were researching and we enjoyed it very much!
Need more of Desert 🏜️ Lighthouse in Nevada too because got The World’s Loneliest Road. And that desert lighthouse will be good for those who… Needs huge help 😮☺️
I’m regularly on that route between San Diego and Vegas. Are you able too see the lighthouse from the 15 freeway? I’m guessing yes at night when it’s lit but is it still close enough to pick out during the day? Thanks!!!
The Desert Lighthouse is about 10 miles straight line distance north-west from the I-15/CA-58 exchange; the Lighthouse is only about 3 miles from CA-58 at the closest point to that highway. It is unlikely you could readily see the Lighthouse from I-15 in the daytime, but at night when lit-up it should be easily identifiable.
You guys are the beacon of light for us. Stay on course with your adventures.
❤

@@OddityOdysseys Did he say why he was wearing gloves?
@@DovieRuthAuthor He was there for some maintenance on the inside. That was even more unusual timing-wise since he doesn't live in the area. 😊
Greetings Bethany, Drew, and fans of Oddity Odysseys. Thank you for finding cool sights! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Wow. Just wow.
This was so cool I love lighthouses. So cool you got to go explore inside!!
So cool that you guys were able to get access and see inside the lighthouse!!!
What amazing timing. You guys did an awesome job even before he showed up. But "WOW" this is exceptional coverage of this unique place.
It's interesting that he came up with the idea to build it while hallucinating in the area.
Hmmm, what’s wrong with desert night sky? Dudes taken it on himself to push an art project of his on to everyone within 50 miles whether they like it or not.
Yeah, I'm sure the amateur astronomers around there are thrilled. The Mohave is really good for that I bet.
Great episode. What a thrill to have randomly run into Hawkins on site. Beautiful, stunning, amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great episode!
Thank you!
Very cool . Can it be seen from hwy 58 ? Take care 👍👍👍👍👍
It can, day and night, if you know where to look.

That was good timing making the trip just as actual creator show up and was kind to gave us a tour inside.
Hi Bethany Drew and Daniel, what a fun documentary about a great idea. I wonder how many UFO calls the poor Sheriff has received?

I like it when it's the half light at sunset when the sunlight is shining through the light house
This is so magnificent! I’m so glad that you were able to meet the creator of this lighthouse. ❤
Very Cool! The eggs appear to be Eagle.
Makes sense 😉😉
A frivolous, but necessary work of art! Very nice.
Who woulda thunk? A great 360 view of the desert LOL 😆!

"You cannot come in here, unless Daniel has the keys."

Is the Lighthouse dark sky compliant in accordance to California code of regulations title 24?

Which is also haunted...👻😉

@random22026 yes the cliffs and lighthouse are haunted by a spurned woman. Supposedly jumped off the cliff to her death..
An intense experience! What a trip!
Lucky day, cool spot. Welcome to the California desert. Look forward to the stories you have coming up out here.
That was VERY special guys...thanks! 👍🇺🇲
Nothing about the road is "treacherous". It is just a desert road similar to hundreds of other roads out in the Mojave.
Great video!! Love your channel, I often drive through Barstow on I-15, will have to detour and check out the lighthouse
John Greenstone needs to add this into Run8 Train Simulator to confuse all the foamers and to acknowledge that Hinkley exists outside of the railroad.
