- First one in the shop. Very nice unit, un-modified. Really enjoyed the repair. Very nice built amp. Demo features a Les Paul guitar! Sorry I did not show the details of the repair. I have been very busy, time is a rarity.
Terry, you've done so many amp repairs lately, you've kept Tony in practice! His chops have improved greatly. no doubt because of you! LoL
Tony, that's a freakin sweet looking Les Paul!!
Cool amp Terry...Nice easy fix, thanks for sharing. Great to have Tony do his thing, cool licks...Ed..uk..😀
I’ve worked on several Gibson tweeds and that is the nicest chassis that I’ve ever seen. It’s like new.... great video.
Again, a good repairing on a vintage amp!
Tony, good playing on the guitar!
Have a nice weekend! 👍🤗🤗🇳🇱🇺🇸🎼🎸
Crank that thing! Don’t be shy. The pentode on V1 make these one of the best sounding amps of all time IMO.
Oh yeah, very nice. Thanks D-Lab.
Well, Tony has well-deserved a beer ...😀
What a beautiful, clean example of an old classic. Thank you Terry and Tony.
Sounds great. I must say as a guitar player for many many years, I’ve built and played dozens and dozens of fenders and Marshall’s, but some of these old Gibsons have a magic to them that can’t be duplicated. I just cloned a Gibson Skylark and it might be the best sounding amp I’ve ever played through the date. They knew what they were doing at Gibson back in the day for sure.
This was my first amp…1957 GA40 that my dad bought at the same time he bought a lefty LPC wired like an ES5 (custom job from Gibson). He gave me the GA40 and it got stolen after a gig. But it had the best clean tone of any amp I’ve ever played…with a remote wedge foot switch for tremolo!
Great fix man.. You can always tell when Tony is digging a cool amp.. he has on his guitar lead face... Love it... great amp!!!
Terry should do a video shoot of Tony playing with a band.
Respect to Tony awesome playing
That’s an awesome Les Paul! Sounds killer, especially through that amp!
Tony finally brought a REAL guitar.
Definitely sound difference between the LP and Tele.......BUT I love the Tele.........another great episode playing by Tony and repair by Terry ! ! ! That LP amp sounds great also !
Nice amp! I love the sound of a les paul guitar and i have a Les Paul myself love that guitar!
Need a Shortwave Girl Halloween episode Terry
Sounds great - FYI, George Harrison was using a Gibson GA-40 prior to The Beatles' exclusive deal with Vox.
👍🤘
Great video Gibson made quite a few amplifiers in their time I think they're all collectible. And people always ask who am I I always say nobody.
That amp sounds fabulous. I had a GA-40 (non Les Paul) but could not get it repaired right.
There's something about a LP that just make one want to show off!
I’ve got a Gibson Maestro GA45 with different input resistors and a separate bass and treble circuit. Everything else is the same but I can’t figure why they did the treble and bass separate? I haven’t found out why they made this as a separate mode. Can you speculate on why they would have done this? And why the different input resistors?
It’s a beast….a ton of sustain and sounds like no other amp I have ever owned. One problem with it is they have a bunch of caps on the backside of the board. I need to get in there and get them all on the front side. It’s a rats nest to work on. A very quiet amp though. It must be the 5879 preamp tubes that really gives its flavor. Please chime in on my first questions if you have a moment or idea. The schematic isn’t too hard to find if anyone has insight. You can really gain it up by bridge if the channels.
Is there a D-lab Halloween program plan?
Hook up a spring reverb. Bet it'll sound even more epic.
👍👌👏🤔
I really wanna get some 6V6GT and 5Y3 with my nice Sylvania type of 12ax7 it has less cathode filament shorting tendency
Tony’s Les Paul looks like a faded model. I have 2005 that looks identical to it.
Tony has never sounded better and I think this guitar has a lot to do with it. I was waiting for him to rip into some Jimmy Page licks lol crank it up loud and it will sing
Thanks for all the great info. I have a question. I'm in the process of designing an amp from "scratch". I managed to get the preamp all working as well as the 6l6 but the preamp isn't connected to the 6l6 and I'm still lacking an output transformer. How do I determine how many volts AC should be coming out of my preamp and into the 6l6?
Terry I have a ‘55 GA-20 that needs the original Jensen speaker re-coned. Can you recommend who can do this? You might recall this is an era amp where there is a choke mounted on the speaker. Thanks
Anyone know a great Amp Repair tech in the Austin Texas area?
What fuse does it use? I am working on an GA-40 that is smoking with no sound. Wondering if I have a bad PT. Im an amateur and appreciate your informative posts.
How did you fix the bias?
What year did the Gibson
Lespaul GA40 come
Out on the market?
1952
@@stevencancel1727Ok.. my brother inlaw
Had one back in the 1980s I put new capacitors in p/s
And other sections
Tuned up the tremolo
As well worked good after that also I put some screen shielding on the inside of the upper back door. When my hand would get near the back door it would home a little show the screen shielding kept the amp more quiet
