You could always try the old pantyhose trick for the carbon effect Dan, there is also another trick, but it has been quite a few years since I have tried it and can't remember what it is, -it will come to me
The trick seems to be clear coating over the body. Since some people have had issues with clear coat turning the silver black some people have suggested an acrylic based clear coat. What is your plan?

The body will be 2K clear, I've never had any issues with it over metallics.
Can’t fault a Tamiya kits mind
It is difficult to find fault, and it means I have no excuses if there are any problems.
