- With a little help from Justin Bieber, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” rocketed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and has stayed there for an impressive nine weeks and counting. It even surpassed Eminem’s “Rap God” as the most popular song in Genius history. The track is produced by Mauricio Rengífo and Andrés Torres, and the pair sat down with Genius to explain how their smash hit came together for the latest episode of Deconstructed.

Genius is really doing a great thing with these "making of" videos, not only for fans but especially for aspiring producers. You can imagine in the 70s wanting to be a producer or engineer, hearing all the hits on the radio, and dying to know what went through the producer's mind, or how the session was broken down. Producers today are spoiled in that way, but forever grateful for platforms like Genius that give an up-and-comer a glimpse into the inner workings of an actual hit song.
Tis Cayea You should watch Virtual Riots, Haywyres or Dylan Tallchiefs streams if you want good tips.
Or Jay Hardway
very true. there's always an element of mystery with any production. producers today have many resources and 'behind the scenes' peaks - however, to be great, it is not only about exposure and availability - it is about application. for artists, the choice to be successful is always in our own hands regardless of resources. great production in this. congrats to these two. x
Amen.
Real shit !!! Congrats Genius, i'm a beginner, i'm studying a lot FL Studio 20 !!! And when u see the biggest guys of the music working on it....YOU SEE IT'S POSSIBLE, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? FOCUS, AND PRACTICE....AND THEN, IN A FEW YEARS WE ARE GONNA SAY: WE DID IT !!!
I always loved rap music, and to freestyle with my friends (who couldn't do it haha) when i was 14 or 15 ... now I'm 26, and learning how to make beats and put all my lyrics on it.... Thanks GENIUS, im learning a lot with you guys...the Kid Cudi episode was freaking awesome.... THANKS, and greetings from Brazil !
i love how passionately producers talk about their songs they make like you would never imagine how much work and thought goes into making a song
hallucinations like every producer is passionate cause it takes time and when you see your vision come to life it makes you feel amazing i cant wait till my time
Aaron Archuletta when they start, they should often make all themselves. From writing a melody to mixing
Brandon Blaise do you have a preview of yoir work , i love to hear new music no matter what background it has
and this is sad...
They're so passionate about this
Zack The Squid that's is what Colombians are passionate :)
@Gonex don't see how them being Latinos is relevant to their passion but k
N3WBIE cus were passionate about shit
Thank you, Genuis, for giving producers the spotlight and credit they DESERVE. I love this series.

broo that part was life changing.
Hyper Awesome!
Damn i am so dramatic when i am inspired, but yea it was amazing
here are the real genius behind the song
ravi kumar Luis fonsi is just as genius(bad grammar I know) as they are. Without the production, Luis wouldn't have made the Melody and without his melodies and catchy lyrics, the production would just feel empty.
ravi kumar "geniuses"? Lol please the instrumentals are basic af
Petter Vosveld edgy. you mad cause these are probably set for life now?
Let's see get a placement like them.
ravi kumar most of the time 50 percent or more is the producers that are making a song the hit.
Gotta love the producers❤
To all the young producers. These are Real Producers!!!! Take notes!!!!
haha damn !
Yeah, having a couple of drum kits and fl doesn't makes you anything, note that too.
@@urryd sure thanks for telling me
I LOVE THESE DECONSTRUCTED VIDEOS SO MUCH. It's just amazing to see the process behind building these songs; it gives me even deeper respect for the artistry that goes into music. Thank you guys for making these!
100% agree! would love to see more of these. It's especially interesting to me as I am a music hobbyist (Ableton Live, soft synths, etc) so it is fascinating to see the top of the top's work flow and what tool and processes they are using to create these great songs!
"its cool.."
-"but its cold"
ooh mama
there is levels to this shit, they are really genius
I love the chemistry of these guys and their passion. So good to see producers like this
didnt see this coming
Dat yeah same here
Dat it was totally random tbh. But they usually try to get every song that hit number 1 on the billboard
Dat you are everywhere wtf
like a blind bitch you fucking from behind
i could listen to the cuatro playing forever
I love how emotive their explanations are for the beat, very inspiring
I absolutely love these guys. You can tell their relationship is genuine, and they clearly work together extremely well! This was great to see. With my beats, I try to get the same level of quality as they do (although different genres).

hflores91 there are styles of music across the world pop blues you cannot deny that
It's really cool to see how passionate they are about the beat.
PLEASE stop calling it a beat. It's called a song.
@@bw2937 no, its a beat, they did not show how they mixed the vocals or any of the vocals on the track
@@808ross8 A beat is a repeating trap bullshit thing. It's just the drum part.
I NEED MORE OF THESE DAMN IT

fantastic guys
7:15 to 7:50 I keep repeating it all the time..shows how good these dudes are !
Where's the recognition that these guys deserve?
Scott Pilgrim It is on the 40% they own of the royalties lol
Jose Alvarado they don't! The writers gave them 0% royalties.
I seriously doubt that.
Scott Pilgrim don't worry rengifo is super famous specially in the Latin community he doesn't need this song to be recognized
Scott Pilgrim they're both very famous here in Latin America specially here in Colombia, they're great producers and they've worked with big name Latin American artists
Awesome beat, one of the few latin songs that i like it, the beat it’s very complicated but it mixes digital elements with some great natural elements that give a unique vibe 🔥
All that percussion sounds so good
The last line touches my heart 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓 really loved it
Love how both of them complete each other's words. Awesome!
These dudes could probably live off the success of Despacito alone. I know those publishing checks are fat.
COLOMBIA EN LA CASA .... ANDRES TORRES Y MAURICIO RENGIFO EN LA PRODUCCIÓN

I hope to be on this 1 day! Producing is my passion and this gives me life!
These guys have such a beautiful energy, without this energy no song with a soul like this

"Despacito" is what you say at the beginning of sexy time
Very in depth Making of
These guys look so happy and proud to show off their work haha
mauricio rengifo no solo es un buen cantante si no un buen productor, el es de la agrupacion cali y el dandee no sabia que el habia participado en la produccion musical de despacito wow que sorpresa
Just absolutely amazing work
Salute to the producer
this is vary good song . it is a vary good acting and lov its.
I love this kind of videos! a lot of learning!
you can feel their passion in the result. 2019.
That the track has 47 patterns really scare me as a young producer
Just flow with ur beats, if it sounds good, sounds good.😉
@@marktrejos7647 The fact you call them 'beats' makes you sound oh so amateur. Maybe you are. These things are called songs you know. It's not as easy as annoying 808 basses and hats copy and pasted. Trap's dying anyway. More quality music is back. Where you record a full synth part from start to finish on guess what?? A REAL SYNTH. Yep, genius. Not fucking serum or whatever bullshit.
@@bw2937 jesus chill out old head u have to respect the new generation because without them music wouldn't still be going as big as it does, sure some producers put little effort in but it doesn't need to be complex, why use an expensive synth when u can get something that sounds the same for much cheaper in a software form, its called technological advance dummy, analogue sound will always be better than software but software is where its going and it makes it much easier to make music
@@808ross8 How is 16 old LOL. Bet I'm younger than you..... I'm a songwriter/producer who DOES put effort in. I produce actual pop songs. Not just 808 loops.
@@bw2937 lol I'm 16 too I guess we have different views and I respect it, but I'm saying like computers are great for music now just makes for a more efficient workflow and the not all trap songs are simple there are alot of layers to them some of them are shitty though so I get what u mean and I respect it, I produce old school hip hop and trap sometimes and drill
Great insight! Great production!
so many instruments and sounds on that beat. damn
These guys are like a perfect match, great duo!
