Mr. Ron Griffith......your message resonates so deeply within me. I am a retired Police Officer, as was my kid brother. My brother committed suicide last month, and his death forced me to finally face why I've felt the way I have for so many years. Despite all of the brokenness you may feel, and use to hide from others, you Sir are without a doubt, the hero you strived to become. Although it often comes at a heavy price, no one can ever take that away from you!
Dan, we're so very sorry for your loss. Thank YOU very much for sharing how Ron's story spoke to you and how you've been addressing your own recovery in this difficult time. Really grateful to share community with you.
Dan that's terrible. I could not stand it if one of my siblings passed away for any reason. Yes I am a retired police officer myself. All the best. I hope you've been okay in the four years since you posted this.
Thank you Mark. One thing policing and the death of my brother has taught me, and that is, if you don't roll with the punches, you'll drown.@@marknorris1381

I met him back in October 2018. He was a very kind, down-to-earth man. To hear his story was inspiring and I just wanted to hug him. It was an honour to shake hands with him, and I hope he's doing well nowadays. Thank you for your service, and best wishes to you Mr. Griffith.
Thank you for your service. I was recently hurt bad by what eeemed to be a stressed out policeman. And I have a mental health diagnosis . I tried to call him to talk . I just want to forgive and heal both of us. It was in Chicago. I have nightmares . It's not his fault . It's the way of the world . I just want to talk to him . Help him . And be helped . All the complaints in the world won't help. They'll make it worse. You are a good man of courage . Thanks .
L, thank you so much for sharing your experience, especially since it was a difficult one, and also your clear hope for better for all involved. Hoping you're taking good care.
Some effective treatments for PTSD include prazocin for nightmares and exposure therapy for fear and anxiety. SSRI's are also effective for anxiety but stay away from benzodiazepines as physical dependence develops within four weeks.
Wow, so glad that Ron's story spoke to you, Evalyn. That's why we share these stories. Really glad you took a moment to let us know this one resonated with you.
