  • Needed: An aluminum can. A sheet of copper foil of 0.3-0.4mm. Two insulating rubber spacers. An engine of a cd rom 2-3 volts, to be recovered from the inside of a PC. 1 liter of water with 3-4 tablespoons of salt for foods.The duration of rotation of the motor is approximately 7-8 minutes. When the salt water loses energy, it must be filled with fresh water and salt. For the success of this experiment it is necessary to have an engine that has a low power consumption 15-20 mA max and a voltage of 2-3 volts of a motor of a cd rom inside the pc. The use of engines for toys are not suitable for this type of experiment.* The copper foil can't be replaced with other metals.

    To answer all the questions how this works:
    Its a galvanic cell. The electricity is produced by the flow of electrons from the aluminium to the copper. The reaction based on this is the redox reaction. The salt water just connects the to parts and improves the flow of electrons. More salty water only increases the power to a cap where no more salt can be solved in the water. The saltwater is NOT the source of the electricity, it just carries it.

Soda ash is sodium carbonate. You can get it on the washing powder section in the stores. Make sure it is Sodium carbonate and not sodium bicarbonate. sodium bicarbonate is baking soda. Electricity is basically the movement of electrons. In this case salt water is the carrier of electrons from the aluminium to copper. The solution works until there are no more electrons to travel from the aluminium to the copper.

      Electricity comes from charged ions released when the salt is absorbed by the water. When salt is dried from water, the salt is released by charged photons. Also, this process changes the Ph of water, so fish would die if this is used at a large scale T_T *tear*

    • @organizedmarketing
      @organizedmarketing 8 років тому

      +Steven l Campbell interestingly enough if you reverse the proses. you start electrolysis and can actually transfer particles onto the metals from one another. like they do when they electroplate bumpers in a factory the difference in one of the metals is already broken down more than the other making it easier to coat one over the other. oh and a side byproduct is hydrogen and oxygen because the water is breaking down. as well as some sediment material. I think the actually use a stronger acid in a factory setting to better etching I am sure.. so you can see this simple experiment teaches us a lot.

    This is a good science project idea for a high school kid. I don't think the video is implying free energy idea but just opening your mind to more ideas than what is offered to us by corporations.
    The best idea is still elimination of fossil fuel by super advanced methods of separating water atoms most efficiently and harvesting the excess energy from the heat hydrogen and oxygen can generate by burning it.
    If you could get 5 times energy than consumed, using advanced high technology electronics, running a generator that produces electricity used to separate water atoms to use as fuel for a steam turbine which could not only generate electricity to recharge deep cycle batteries, but also hot water for your household needs.

Make a bunch of those in the same order and put them in a circle, make a coil on the outside, and one on the inside, and on the outside of the coil that a magnesium sheeting on the outside. What should happen, is an electric static force on all the magnets should get pick up by the coils and give a voltage in theory.

    Hello, I've only started to learning about electricity and batteries recently, and your video brought up some curiosities I was hoping you could help me figure out:
    1) When the battery's energy is depleted, what has happened to the chemistry of the battery?
    2) What happens to the metals after a long time, assuming an infinite source of salt water?
    3) Does increasing the surface area of either metal change the energy output?
    4) If you cut the sheet of copper in half, and further into 1/4 strips and connected them all together, would the output be different? And if the output increases, does that mean the battery would also deplete faster?
    Much appreciated if someone could answer these questions. Thank you very much.
