I used to make catfish in a cornmeal crust and hushpuppies for dinner and told the kids we were having "Cats and Dogs for dinner"! The kids lived both the name and the dinner and asked for it frequently!!

Dear Jamerill watching you for 4 years now. When I found you I was 4 months in to the marriage and moved across the world to Japan. I am a momma now. You have helped me to be a better wife and mom. I clean and cook with you. Yesterday I bought a whole load of autumn flowers to plant in my very small balcony garden. I love you ❤

FYI for brown rice, dollar tree sells it in 2lb bags, so it's $1.25 for 2 pounds! You can even order a case which is 24 bags or 48 pounds for only $36!! If you do site to store there's no shipping cost and when it's ready for pick up you just go pick up the box!

You don't need to put salt in a mylar for long term. It doesn't go bad. Just pour it in a bucket and put a tight fitting lid on it. Stays fine as long as it doesn't get wet. I'm still using the 15 lb bag I bought 10 years ago, never wasted mylar or O2 absorbers on them.

Its so funny when I see we get the same things from Sharp Shopper! Its been a long while since we got a big 'ol cheese long, too and we grabbed one this week! Also grabbed a couple bags of those fries (which are from Target originally). I'm up to my eyeballs canning the final (and huge) harvest from my garden. My tiny kitchen sure churns out a LOT of food for this fam of 7 (plus a very spoiled lab mix, who gets fried chicken skins as treats)! Love from PA 💜

I think you do a great job feeding your family. My husband and I are still “housing” adult children ages 20, 24, and 25. They can eat a lot of food so we need yogurts and granola bars available, lots of side items, lots of potatoes and rice or the two oldest, boys, could eat three chicken breasts each per meal. Nobody can afford that! (I can’t even talk about meals eaten out or take out) 🤣 You brighten our lives with each video and we feel blessed you share your life with us so thank you! In case anyone is wondering, all three young adults have graduated college, have jobs, and are great kids, they just don’t want to leave mom and dad. That’s ok with us, we had children later in life so we enjoy them every day. Amongst all of this, we have a three year old grandson three days a week. He comes here to be with his father, divorce is rough, but we are grateful for our son and his son! So, to wrap this up, I can feed five if you can feed your crew. You give us great ideas for meals that are appreciated! Many blessings to your family! 💙💙💕💙

With the imitation crab we love making "sushi" bowls..I mix the imitation crab with some mayo, lemon juice,salt,pepper..make up some rice with some soy sauce and rice wine vinigar and let it cool to room temp..put the imitation crab salad on top of the rice and add thin sliced carrots, avocados, some seaweed even..and have a little sushi bowl that is healthy and filling
My middle kiddo lovesss those catfish nuggets! And my oldest, husband, and dad will eat catfish as well. I do eat some seafood but not huge on certain types of fish..so myself and my youngest usually eat a big veggie dinner w/hush puppies because those eating the cat fish can have some of the veggies and hush puppies as their side items.
But with the cat fish nuggets my middle kiddo loves when i use a mix of corn meal and panko bread crumbs with a decent amount of lemon pepper mixed in and then I just dip the catfish nuggets in a mixture of unsweetened plain oat milk or coconut milk (of course can use whatever milk),lemon juice, pepper, season salt, garlic powder, and some egg..then toss in the lemon pepper/panko bread crumb/cornmeal mix..then back in liquid then back in the dry mix..let sit on top of a wire rack w/a cookie sheet under it until I get all of the pieces done..then I will air fry them or if I'm making my famous fried okra and squash I will go ahead and do the fish in some oil on the stove top! Although I'm not a fan of cat fish I did do a taste test on one I made before doing the whole batch and it was good! And others in my house who enjoy the catfish nuggets enjoy it made that way too.
I always let each family member pick out a meal for that month along with input on other meals..most of my meals i have to buy with the mindset it's something we can have atleast 2 if not 3 dinners out of because of our budget so that's why everyone gets to have their personal choice in meal at least once that month..and of course there's always leftovers, sandwiches, salads, etc for if someone doesn't care for a particular meal that a family member requested for that night.
We have some discount grocery stores around us and I love when they have their bags of slaw on sale (i always make my own slaw dressing but its nice when i can buy a large bag of the veggies already prepped for me lol) and will make that with their catfish nugget dinner.
As someone who eats more on the vegan/vegetarian side with some seafood thrown in there..I love the discount stores because I can get vegetarian and vegan quick meals and ingredients for over half less than the reg store..and places like Aldi who has been adding veggie and vegan options in slowly.
And hearing you buy the half or whole cows,pigs,etc..ive been on the hunt for a supplier and I've found a few I'm just trying to determine who has the best deal but also supplies a product I feel good about feeding my family..I do buy meat in bulk and do a lot of freezing of meat..sometimes 3 pounds of pasta may only have one pound of ground beef in it for them..but its still a hearty meal that fills up bellies and I always include sides to go with it..and ive even been known to add some beans to my pasta to make it even more filling but in a nutritional way.
I've gotten so many great ideas from your channel! Now that we have mostly moved into our new place and there's a basement with a basement "garage" that isn't huge but it's a decent little area..I am looking into doing the long term storage in that room since it stays dark, dry, and cool year round
Our deep freezer broke but my dad has been doing some "shopping" around to find me one as a early Xmas gift and that will save even more money now that he is with us as well..and because of our situation and trying to get back on our feet/sell our other house..and me not being able to work full time right now..I always make sure he has a hot meal as well..so im up to 6 mouths to feed (two grown men who work 40-60 hour work weeks, a 14yr old almost 6ft tall growing boy, a 9&8 year old growing girls, and myself) so its nice to get ideas on making big meals that last a few days/can be frozen for future meals, shopping in bulk/discount,and learning how to do long term food storage! Along with the deep freezer I'll be getting ive been looking into getting a bread machine so I can make some homemade break to freeze up and buy bulk flour and such to save money (I do pick up bread deals and freeze it though)
Sorry for the long comment lol I just wanted to mention how most of my fam really enjoys those cat fish nuggets and how you've inspired so many things for me!
Seeing your story growing up there have been many similarities so I feel you on a personal level for many of the choices you make for your family. My mother wasn't the best of mothers though so I learned how to do a lot on my own and was thankful when my dad wasn't out to sea so I could get a break and just be a kid for a few days. It def inspired me on how I wanted to raise my kids differently and while they do help and have age appropriate chores..they always know momma won't let them go hungry or go without clean clothes even if those clothes are also discount, hand me downs, etc
Thanks for all of the inspiring videos!

Frozen bananas dipped in dark chocolate and frozen are good. 😀 Another good thing to can is carrot cake jam. So good with bagels and cream cheese.
    Carrot Cake Jam
1 can (20 ozs) unsweetened crushed pineapple, undrained
    1 1/2 cups shredded carrots
1 1/2 cups of peeled chopped ripe pears (fresh not canned)
3 tablespoons commercial lemon juice (acidity of commercial is consistent
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon cloves
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 package powdered fruit pectin
    6 1/2 cups of sugar
In large saucepan combine everything except the pectin and sugar. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 - 20 minutes OR until pears are tender, stir occasionally. Remove from heat (at this point the neighbors think you are making carrot cake). Stir in the pectin.
Bring up to a full rolling boil over high heat , stirring CONSTANTLY. A full rolling boil is when you can't stir the boiling down. Boil and stir for 1 full minute. Remove from heat, skim off any foam you can get (foam will crystallize in the jars. A little won't hurt anything.) Or, you can add a tad or teaspoon of butter to the mixture before you boil it. This recipe doesn't really create a lot of foam though.
Ladle hot mixture in hot jars just washed in the dishwasher and on a heat dry cycle. Leave 1/4 inch headspace. Run a plastic knife down the sides of the jars releasing air bubbles (metal in a hot jar not a good thing, easier to break the jars). With a damp rag wipe the rims and put on lids and rings (if using Tattler lids remember to tighten and untighten by 1/4 turn per manufacturer’s instructions). Process in a water bath canner for 5 minutes. Please check the canning process time charts for your altitude. I'm at 4,000 and must process for 10 minutes.

Boy, I wish there were a Sharp Shopper near me. I live in So Texas but not close to the Rio Grande valley; so there’s only cattle growing in my area.

Salt does not need an oxygen absorber. It will clump up with an absorber (just like sugar) and it naturally preserves itself (think curing things like bacon or ham, salt is the preservation ingredient used). 😉

“You’re right! I store things in mylar with oxygen absorbers, but I forgot that about salt and sugar! I didn’t put oxygen absorbers in my last bucket for either. But I’d only done the salt one other time.”

Don't put oxygen absorption thingies ( forgoten words 🙃) in with salt or sugar. It goes rock solid.
