Instructional Designer here. So funny to hear that now it's about long form content. We've been drilled over and over again to make shorter videos to appeal to a shorter attention span. Most research says a learner will zone out at 5 minutes. BUT, I do think when you are telling a story and you can get people watching longer because your story is good that is a great thing!
I see highly cinematic videos doing well even if it's not a "cinematic" subject (think home renovation, car repair, ditch digging, etc.) as well as talking head type videos that have cinematic elements, but you don't need to watch. You can do chores or other things while listening and not "miss" anything visual.
I have to agree. People seem to gravitate towards people and their personalities. Most of our followers watch us because they not only like our content they like us as a couple as well.
Yasssssss! 💯 ⭐️ can’t wait for the UA-camr interviews. I think content is definitely headed towards more of a vlog style lifestyle follow me around kind of videos. People are naturally nosey and love to be able to see inside how others live.
This was helpful for me! I grew on UA-cam to 51k via shorts. As soon as I stopped doing as many shorts, growth stopped AND you’re right the people that viewed the shorts and subscribed do not watch any of my long form 😅
This definitely scares me! I took a quick glance at your channel and maybe you could consider doing different thumbnails to grab more attention? Just a thought. 💕 I hope you can grow a loyal audience!! 💕
@ tbh Instagram is my main platform 😂 I struggle finding the time to get UA-cam content out like even film it lol. Pregnant with baby 8 and homeschool here. It’s just hard in this season. I always want to try here in yt but suck at editing and graphics too 😂
This was super helpful. I do find that the niche channel can be frustrating as a youtuber too because I feel like you start feeling the pressure or stress. My channel is pretty not niche right now, but I just found it was frustrating. I like doing the trend of broader. I feel like the simple cottage videos/ homestead are doing well that give off that calm vibe, true crime channels, and the booktube for sure
I just changed my content AGAIN for the 3rd time in a month. Mind you I have been on youtube for 3 years and stuck to the same thing. But I was not growing at all. So I wanted to pivot and I switched to my life. So this was so helpful!!! Thank you!
@jeanshelbybooks I was a homemaking channel for 3 years. Last month I changed to a Carnivore channel and absolutely hated it. So on the first I changed to lifestyle and just made it about me. Thank you! Good luck to you as well!!! 😊😊
I see UA-cam testing more community building options and prioritizing channels that have a clear dedicated fan base. Almost like destination channels, where your channel is the reason some people even open the UA-cam app.
We’re here to cheer on all the new UA-camrs-because we’re all just winging it anyway, right? Let’s grow, laugh, and maybe even go viral together (or at least pretend we planned it)!
I didn’t know that about the shorts link! I do a series on shorts that is the topic of my channel and get hundred of views, but it doesn’t seem like they subscribe.
Do you think that with only images without appearing on camera a niche can work? I wanted to start a podcast about movies and TV series. I'm not an expert, I just like the topic and I wanted to try doing something. But I'm embarrassed to go on camera. I thought about making audio podcasts but then I saw that everyone is liking watching video podcasts more.
I think when done well, it can totally work, but “done well” will mean animation skills or something to keep the audience insanely engaged. Definitely a big no to podcast audio with an image overlayed, that will tank a channel fast. If you REALLY want to do UA-cam, you can work the on camera muscle and get more comfortable at it!
I love how right after you said that ahout pronouncing niche nitch, you naturally said it niche and it sounded so normal hahahaa. Love it. But i agree it can be said either way really depends on context for me, and its like potato and tomato for me, potayyto potaaato. Lol

I’m surprised by this too and have been scaling my videos down to less than 10 minutes. Good to know!

I really think long form for TV viewing will increase. I also think story telling is going to be big!
Yesssssss
First thing I noticed was the Chilton sweatshirt!!!! 😍 Love your content and I’m super excited to see where your 2025 journey leads!!!
Listen Linda 😂😂 that gets me every time

Omg I love Gilmore girls!! I need that shirt! ❤
Great video! Excited to see what you create this year!❤

Not even done listening to your first sentence and instantly want your sweatshirt!
It was an Instagram ad find, ha, don’t remember the store but it was a boutique!

I’m curious what you changed your topic to. I changed mine in December and am so glad! Good luck! 🍀

I love this comment!!
@ thank you 😊
@ you are welcome!
Two questions: For niches...
What about people who have a niche like leadership and life mentorship? How does one find sticky subniches in that?
WHY was I unsubbed YT WHY....thankful that I've bumped back into you
I love linguistics, so the southern pronounciation is fascinating to me. But I'm in Canada, so you KNOW i say niche the French way.
Do you consider live-streaming as long form since it is published as a long form video upload after stream is over?
I didn’t know that about the shorts link! I do a series on shorts that is the topic of my channel and get hundred of views, but it doesn’t seem like they subscribe.
They probably don’t! You’re only going to get a small % who click over and then a % of them will subscribe from the long-form.
Do you Link it live or go back into the description and edit and add it?
As long as the long is already live, you can link it AS you upload the short! Super easy!
Your dog at the door waiting 🤩 sorry but got my attention!
He / she even knocked 😅

Not me trying to make my videos shorter to get a higher watch time LOL travel vlogger here!
Almost at 300 subs💪💪

Podcasts are growing fast as well right now.
Absolutely! Well-done, video podcasts
Gilmore girls lover!!!
Yesss!
Meeee too!! 😊😊
Oh gosh. I think I accidentally tried to do the middle ground😬
❤❤
I’m Mormon… let’s have a convo one day. 😂😂😂 get it from the source unless Johnny is Mormon.
Johnny is exmo- but he did the video well, had a bit of ex-Mormon content at the end but, I felt like the history piece was respectful!
@@jessicastansberry ex-Mo world is blowing up. It’s a big niche trend.
YEA! I’ve never had coffee tea, or Alcohol 😂
I have so many questions!
