- 7029 'Clun Castle' with Vintage Trains 'Cumbrian Mountaineer Express' on Saturday 22nd. April 2023. The train started at Tyseley with diesel power to Hellifield where 7029 took over for he run up the Long Drag to Appleby. After a layover the tour continued via Carlisle returning south over Shap.
On a dismal rainy morning 7029 is seen at Selside Shaw working it's first train over the Settle & Carlisle route since 1967
Excellent video Austin. Brilliant sound you captured and with lots of exhaust. That was well worth it in that weather. Best wishes C&A 😊
Thanks very much, it was a foul morning but the rain had eased a bit by the time Clun came
Austin, An excellent capture despite the adverse weather conditions. Regards, John
Thanks John, it was a horrible morning and I was fortunate to capture this record shot
Excellent shot in challenging conditions Austin accompanied by a cracking soundtrack, cheers 👍
Thanks Nige, bit of a last resort shot really, not ideal with the road noise
Fabulous sight, expertly panned as ever with high quality balanced sound, Austin. Wonderful to see this run after a long time waiting, brought back very happy memories of 6024 on the line in 1998.
Many thanks David, it certainly wasn't the shot I'd planned but getting anything in that dreadful weather was a bonus. It would be good to see the King back up here once the restoration is completed
Excellent shot there Austin, always nice to see a castle on the S&C. Regards James
Thanks James, a great shame that the outward run took place under such horrible conditions. I hope one of the Castles gets another outing up here
Excellent video of Clun Castle in action Austin. Great exhaust. The wind was in your favour. Regards, Dave.
Thanks Dave, definitely needed the wind blowing that way to avoid raindrops on the lens. A foul morning!
Lovely sounds from 7029 Austin in less than ideal conditions ☹️☔️
Thanks Steve, less than ideal is putting it mildly I think!
Brillant video
Thank you, not the shot I'd planned but at least I managed this short clip
Austin, the weather may have been dismal but the video certainly wasn't! A superb capture of Clun Castle performing as well as ever. Kind regards, Bob
Thanks Bob, hope you're keeping well. It's just a shot for the record really, didn't get to the spot I'd planned as our wet gear which I thought was in the car was sitting at home! This location allowed us to sit in the car until the train was due
Excellent footage there Austin off Clun. Nice to see it back on the S & C.
Thanks, from a standing start at Settle Junction she did well. How are you doing?
@@acw71000 I'm ok thanks
Good video Austin :)
Many thanks
Great video Austin. We saw Clun Castle further up the line approaching Ribblehead 😊
Thanks, what a horrible morning it was! Fortunately it had eased a bit by the time the train came
@acw71000 yes indeed. When we saw it leave Appleby and at Great Strickland, the weather had brightened up 😊
No other word other than excellent as several people have already said Austin. Lovely steady performance from loco and crew superbly captured in those horrible conditions. Shame we don't see her in the fells more often despite the distance from Tyseley. Take care - Chris
Thanks Chris, it wasn't the planned shot so we went to this spot thinking that if the rain hadn't gone off we'd at least be able to film from the car but it didn't turn out too bad
Good filming Austin, wasn't the best morning but good to see a rarity. Snapped her at Settle junction.👍
Thanks David, so you will have got a good shot of her leaving after the signal check
@@acw71000 yes plenty of puff.
Excellent video. 7029 making a fine noise over the long drag. Might be able to ask which camcorder you use? The clarity as you pan and zoom is exceptional. Many thanks.
Hi Cameron. I'm currently using a Sony AX700. 7029 certainly performed well over the S & C and Shap
Swindon exhaust: clear even chunks without any woolliness. (I have read that Halls are better hill climbers but I’m not so sure that can be true.)
More textbook firing I think. A signal check at Settle Junction meant she couldn't get a run at the bank so a great performance from the crew given greasy rails
