That was really interesting. You did a good job describing that spiderweb of links between the members. I was a fan of all those groups/people, but had no idea of that tangled web of paths they took. Thanks.
I saw the BS at the Sarasota Auditorium at Spring Break in 1967. This was a night where they were fantastic and everything went on time with a great sound. To add to the eve, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Bobby Goldsborough, and The Beach Boys played. A night none of us will forget!!
Saw them 1967 in an afternoon concert at the San Jose Civic where Quicksilver opened the show. For about 30 minutes BS was awesome. Then in the middle of a song, Young stopped playing and began yelling at Stills. The whole band stopped and Stills and Young were screaming at each other and looked ready to punch it out. I seem to remember Young swinging his guitar at the mike stand and then the amp before stomping offstage. They never came back. Then the audience began booing and yelling for their money back. Never got it.
Even then Young was a Jagbag.. KNOWIN that he wanted Joe Rogan censored from Spotify speaks VOLUMES about his INTOLERANCE regarding others... Good back in the day but that Train has long since left the station..
All the musicians involved with all the bands since the Hollies put out years of great music. Hollies, Byrd's, BS, Poco, Loggins and Mesina, Neil Young, CSNY.
Love Buffalo 🐃 Springfield and saw them at Fillmore West about 54 years ago. Neil Young walked right past me and I reached up and touched the fringe on his marvelous black suede fringe jacket that he always wore. Since that time ⏲️ I have always kept 1-2 fringe jackets in my closet. But Bruce Palmer has always been my favorite member. Rest in peace ✌ my precious Bruce Palmer.
Nice always liked Buffalo Springfield, the 60’s produced the best music hands down! I was lucky to be born in the 50's to listen to the transition of rock n roll to rock! In Chicago one minute WLS & WCFL had Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman in their top 10 and then The Beatles I want to hold your hand, the British Invasion with DC5 leading the way and a explosion of groups and sounds all original no pre plastic wrapped bands! Just fantastic music! Never to be reproduced or impact society like that again!
Thanx for posting this this was one great band that produced other great bands and is little heard of today. FWIW: Check out the best of Buffalo Springfield- a greatest hits album.
Their "Greatest Hits" album entitled "Retrospective" is an extremely good album. Many songs were never on the charts, but very well written and preformed.
I saw Buffalo Springfield as an opening act for the Rolling Stones or the Beach Boys (been a long time to remember which concert) in 1966 or 1967. Never knew until just recently who all the band members were. I knew Steve Stills was in the band though.
The Buffalo Springfield first went in to the studio to play their songs for the record company, to see what they had to record. When they were done, & packing up to leave, the band was asked if they had any more songs. Steve Stills answered; ""Yeah, I got one, for what its worth." & played the new one he was working on. The record company called this untitled song "For What Its Worth".
Only one of the best bands EVER!!! 'Mr. Soul' is a gut-crunching rocker that ultimately lead (via Cinnamon Girl, and other grinding classic hits, like Alabama etc.) to grunge, of which, Neil is now recognized as the official Godfather. My second fave of Buffalo Springfield is 'Bluebird' by Steven Stills, and a quieter one by Big Neil... 'Expecting to Fly'. Loved Dewey's snare sound in that one. Deep and crisp.
Almost sixty years later and Buffalo is known for tiny, over-sauced chicken wings and Springfield is known for a yellow doughnut eating man and his family. And that is the truth.
I saw lots of gigs including Buffalo Springfield and others while performing with others. Lots of drugs and dope around,I tell ya! Because of that, my days were fuzzy.
For What It's Worth is the only song I ever heard of from Buffalo Springfield. Stephen Stills and Graham Nash were members of the Hollies, a British Invasion group that was made up of Canadian and British singers until the end of 64. The group was revamped without Still and Nash and songs like He Ain't Heavy and Long Cool Woman In A Red Dress were hits. They disbanded in 1970 but reformed several times on into the 80s..
You sure about Stills being a member of the Hollies? Whats your source? Graham was one of the main guys in the Hollies, Crosby came from the Byrds and Stills from Buffalo Springfield until they met at party and had an impromptu singing session.
@@petechau9616 Stills was not in the Hollies, he was in Buffalo Springfield, only Nash was in the Hollies. And Crosby was in the Byrds, just to wrap it up.
You are talking about 2 massive talents , hence 2 massive egos in Neil Young and Steve Stills. I love them both but they both had a low piss off threshold. I saw Steve Stills throw a $5000 vintage Gretsch guitar across the stage when it crapped out in the middle of his solo. The lads would do things like that from time to time. "Long my you run lads,,,Long may you run"
Hey buddy, you're getting a lot better, keep working at it, you're doing fine! Also, just wanted to let you know, because he has played with lots of people and his name may come up again, Joe Vitale is pronounced vi TA lee, not vee tall. I know him so you can believe me. Cheers!
Soul man is such a better song then fwiw which everyone and their grandchildren have heard. Interesting Info. Thanks. Young is a great musician but he always strikes me as stuck up egotistical my way or no way guy. Him trying to have Rogan censored on spotify solidified that for me. I also have heard a story about young flipping out on stage at stills over something ridiculous and walked off. One of the concerts where quicksilver messenger service opened for them.. Who, imo, are better. Love qms. Cheers.
Young and Stills asked for their content removed from Spotify to protest covid misinformation. Remember covid curfews? I guess they don't hear the songs they sing.
neil is as puffed up and full of it as his pono player, or his electric car. id go so far as to say after woodstock he was a tool of the govt as a lot of the laurel canyon tex ritter club were. neal or neil is lucky he didnt end up with charles manson.
That was really interesting. You did a good job describing that spiderweb of links between the members. I was a fan of all those groups/people, but had no idea of that tangled web of paths they took. Thanks.

I remember the Strawberry Alarmclock well their song "Tomorrow" is one of my all time fav.

And Young hasn't changed as recent issues show. What an a hole .
How was Quicksilver? Love QMS
I wouldn't pay five cents to see them.
What happened to Buffalo Springfield after Neil left was Poco. Nobody appreciated them enough, either.
My 2 favorite Buffalo Springfield songs-both written by Young and lead vocals by Furay are "Do I Have To Come Right Out
Say It" and "On The Way Home".
same for me!
Nice to see this band recognized. They were a band that failed to live up to their potential but created the foundation for one of rock's supergroups.
It would have been interesting how the band adapted to the ’70s. If they had stayed together, there would be no CSNY.
Too bad they did not keep going, they were all amazing. Best harmonization I have ever heard in rock n roll.
All the musicians involved with all the bands since the Hollies put out years of great music. Hollies, Byrd's, BS, Poco, Loggins and Mesina, Neil Young, CSNY.
That's a pedigree to be proud of,thanks for the memories
That whole family of musicians and the bands that were created by them were just amazing!

One of my favorite albums
My buddy and I saw Buffalo Springfield live at the YMCA in Racine, Wisconsin at the YMCA.
I saw Buffalo Springfield as an opening act for the Rolling Stones or the Beach Boys (been a long time to remember which concert) in 1966 or 1967. Never knew until just recently who all the band members were. I knew Steve Stills was in the band though.
Stills was fantastic in the super session recording along with Kooper and Bloomfield.
You mean Bloomfield?
Too bad Stephen and Michael did not get to play together during those sessions. Still a great album.😀🤩

“For What It’s Worth” originally wasn’t on their debut album until it became a hit.
I've got this on 45 FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH!!!
@@whathappenedtothem_ That is true.
Thank you, excellent episode 👏
"What Happened to Buffalo Springfield?" Well, drug busts and deportations of band members will tend to inhibit any group. 😉

Long version Bluebird.
My all time favorite.
@@artvallejos1460 yeah, awesome guitar break. Steven Stills at his flashiest. crystal clear sound. impressive recording for that era.
Also a fine example of Palmer's talent.
@@artofnoly9754 the song was ahead of its time.
SOMETHING'S HAPPENING HERE
WHAT IT IS AINT
EXATELY CLEAR
THERE'S A MAN
WITH A GUN OVER
HERE STOP CHILDREN ?
What happened? Egos, control issues, short attention spans. Still mad at 'em.
Thanks. I never knew that Half Of Crosby, Stills, Nash, And Young were part of Buffalo Springfield
Bruce Palmer was also almost in CSNY but Crosby and Nash but the kibosh on it.
I knew that in late 1969-1970 that much
@@markhunter8554 interesting fact
Neil Young played in “The Squires” when he was in Winnipeg.
The band was too small for the talent and egos of those musicians. Same thing with The Byrds.
Correct
Pretty girl why. They had some good songs.
I remember Richie Fury when he was with Poco another underrated band
Ha! I saw a Buffalo Springfield Revisited show. On the Bill with Mitch Ryder and Tommy James.......
I wish I would have seen Tommy James etal I think they're another totally under rated bands.
Here is a video I did on Tommy James: ua-cam.com/video/SzDYTgWX1t4/v-deo.html
Bluebird ( long version)
Almost sixty years later and Buffalo is known for tiny, over-sauced chicken wings and Springfield is known for a yellow doughnut eating man and his family. And that is the truth.
Stills only wanted to contribute some songs he wrote to the Monkees. Never wanted to be in the band.
Not sure, but you could ask Neil. He lives with his birds in the hills of California.
1: 45 Dude has a Tele cut into a tear drop . Ouch .
Perhaps it's a Vox Teardrop; Brian Jones played one.
Bruce Palmer couldn’t make this show so they used a fill in for the bass and he sat with his back to the audience.
Short lived but great.
Strange speech impediment in the narration.
I saw lots of gigs including Buffalo Springfield and others while performing with others. Lots of drugs and dope around,I tell ya! Because of that, my days were fuzzy.
good content but the audio is hollow and pretty bad.
Flying Burrito Brothers were the real Pioneers in country rock. Too bad Gram Parsons died so young.
Outstanding music! Their time was right.
Very informative video. But I don't think there was anything psychedelic about them.

Contrary to the title, this is far less the story of the band than it is a tour of important places in their history. A bit dissappointing.
