The strange thing about the pixies is the music never get's old. Even when i learn a new pixies song on guitar/bass and I can hear clearer what is going on, its like hearing a new perspective of the song.
Kim didn't leave the band to do the first Breeders album. Charles (Black Francis) ended the band a few years later. 1993. They reformed in 2004 with Kim playing, and they toured. But Kim, who had been on the wagon for a while (alcohol was her biggest issue, not narcotics), had a bit of a struggle. When she left the band, Charles said she would be welcome to rejoin if she felt like it.
Charles is a cleanskin. Not an alcoholic or addict.
She struggled with alcohol for many years but her smile is genuine. I was at the foot of the stage for their first reunion show in NYC in 2004 and made her laugh, which was a thrill. I hope you’ve picked up the Breeders by now.
Wow wee, I was at this gig in London 1987 or 88, can't remember exact year- they were support band to Throwing Muses and blew them out of the water. So funny, when the Muses came on stage, Kristin Hersh lead singer sighed 'How do we follow that !'
Surfer Rosa is an LP not an EP their debut EP where the first two songs are from is called C'mon Pilgrim
This whole show is my favorite live music performance of all time. I have it on DVD (that's how old I am LOL).
Your reviews are great because like you said, you don't overreact. And you guys clearly appreciate music that wouldn't otherwise listen to for what it is.
Ty !! ❤️🤟🙏🤟❤️
I got this concert on a bonus CD some 35 years ago - still gives me goosebumps! One of those bands that's better live!
"...and here I am with my hand." Glorious.
Hadn't seen that particular video. Kim did have an ongoing substance abuse problem (as did drummer David Lovering at one point). Kim felt she wasn't being featured in enough vocals, which was an on-going source of friction and likely a major factor in the break-ups. You can just call the lead singer Francis. Pixies gets less love in North America than anywhere else - though they have a fanbase among Alternative fans even here. Nice to listen in on your discussion.
❤️🤟🙏🤟❤️
heres the thing. Kim has a twin sister who has substance abuse (the lead singer of The Breeders) and she DID take a break to support her, but she also had other reasons to bail from the band
Wouldn’t be surprised if you guys react to the whole concert at this point.
This series of gigs is LEGENDARY in the UK. Apparently, tons of musicians who would later form their own bands and become huge in the 90s all tell stories about being at one of these performances.
Also, the singer wasn’t the one with the drug problem. The bass player and drummer had very well known struggles. Black Francis/Frank Black/Charles is very particular though to say the least, and is not necessarily the most diplomatic person in the world.
If this is '88, Kim was with the band until they broke up in '93, then the reunion happened '04 and she stayed until 2013 🤘🏻⚡️
Go ahead and listen to their music Nathan...don't need to wait for requests.
Lead singer absolutely didn't have a drug problem. I believe Kim had issues, but ultimately, for many reasons, her heart just wasn't with the band any more. Comeback was good for a while, but she had other stuff she wanted to do.
Truth. Hi Pixie mum!
Ok. Thank you for clarifying. Ryan was right then saying Kim looked high.
Paz is awesome though
You guys do great work. I'd love if you revisited the Pixies, though. Now that you've covered the origins, get into Doolittle and move forward to 1993.
I think UMass was on that album...
Also, Kim is clearly a little overblown on coke during this performance, but this is early Pixies. They went for some years past this, and she was very successful with the Breeders after. 3/4s of this band dealt with substance problems and are now sober. It's not just Kim
The Pixies are amazing and I worship the ground they walk on. The band is Franks though . Don't fall into the cult of Kim, as much as I love her.
GREAT song selection
frank black was the only one not on drugs or alcohol lol
right. I had the DVD of this whole show and have watched it for years. I consider it one of the greatest live music sets I've ever seen. And I've always figured Kim's on heroin during this show. And a lot of it. But man they rock.
Pixies ❤️
Flat picking is just with any pick held between you thumb and fingers. Finger picking is self described.
Please do Doolittle. So nice to watch along.
Reaccionen a Alec Eiffel!
Kim is the face of the band, everybody loves her, dont feel ashamed 😁
