Actually Toei did push to try to have Gohan made the main focus of DBZ, with the studio even pitching titles that included Gohan's name in the title. Due to wanting a kid hero because "The first show had a kid hero!" Toriyama refused, but Toei still tried to advertise it as "The Gohan Show" in Japan, and the original run (as well as some latter dubbings) had various shorts placed in many of the earlier episodes of Gohan in a chibi style going off on musical adventures with Piccolo and his pet dragon Icarus. Most dubs removed these segments as they're pointless, contribute nothing to the plot, and are just downright confusing... Though Funimations "DBZ Uncut" dub added them back in. Personally I think removing them was the right call as I tried to watch the Frieza Saga this way, and it's just so painful to be in this serious moment of Frieza killing people and talking shit, and then suddenly we have this weird Chinese music video of Gohan and Icarus marching around, and then we're back to Namek as if nothing happened... It's also worth nothing The character of Icarus from these shorts was never an actual character in the show, just a cute little mascot for Gohan to play off of for these segments, but the movies "Lord Slug" "Return of Cooler" and "Tree of Might" do feature appearances from Icarus outside of the shorts, and in the Buu Saga there is a filler episode where Gohan as Saiyaman saves a small dinosaur from performing in a circus where he comments that the dinosaur "reminds him of Icarus", complete with a flashback of movie stock footage. I do not know if these Gohan/Piccolo/Icarus shorts are in Kai as I stick with the uncut dub in most rewatches of the show, as there's quite a few filler arcs I actually enjoy, namely Fake Namek (yes, I LIKE Fake Namek), and the Otherworld Tournament. Well, this is something you don't know: Italy had a DBZ Kai-like cut without fillers right after the first airing, called "Dragon Ball: Le Grandi Battaglie", and before that, a fourth series called "Dragon Ball: La Saga" with DBZ Movies turned into 20 minutes episodes to milk the TV series the most they could, this stuff still gets aired sometimes, and the opening of both was a medley of the three Italian TV openings. Two facts that I know of that most Dragon Ball fans are painfully aware of nowadays are: - Vic Mignogna was fired from Funimation and Rooster Teeth in early 2019 due to harassment allegations and inappropriate behavior in the workplace, despite no definitive evidence being brought forward to corroborate these severe allegations. Mignogna would later go on to file a defamation lawsuit against Funimation but the lawsuit was dropped later that year after mediation could not reach a resolution. As of July 2022 Mignogna is banned from attending most major anime conventions and hasn't received any major work since. - In August 2019, an audio leak from Funimation revealed several outtakes from the dubbing process where several cast members would make sexual jokes and Sean Schemmel himself would use a homophobic slur throughout the recordings. This audio enraged Dragon Ball fans that believed in Mignogna's innocence due to what they perceived as hypocrisy by Funimation for not addressing the audio leaks. The situation grew to be so dire Toei Animation threatened to withdraw the Dragon Ball IP from Funimation due to unprofessionalism.

Cell has DNA from all the Z fighters but his techniques are all advanced. SO the idea of his cell clone minis are evolved eggs that perhaps if left to grow would become full grown cells. 16:08 it’s actually the melody of the french opening
THIS CLEARS UP SO MANY THINGS IN ABRIDGED.
Piccolo is toriyama's favorite. He's his favorite so much that he mistreated him in Dragon Ball super and thrown him away like he was a piece of trash to just push Goku.
His favorite is Mr.Satan
@@saiyantopics3058 hahaha that's funny
@@onisfury8264 nope, read his interviews from kanzenshuu after the Buu saga publish in Japan, he states that he likes Mr.Satan the most, fuck off you don't know shit, that's funny
@@saiyantopics3058 he said he enjoyed drawing hercule because worthless gags are more enjoyable than fight scenes
Also he was somewhat joking around
His favourite character was first tien, then piccolo, then Goku
It’s just when he said piccolo he gave an actual reason why he was his favourite
14:55 that's not a Ford focus. They fuse into a Ford fusion. LMAO
If it's worth anything, the full colour release combines both the ending where Uub gets Kinto'un and the ending where Vegeta swears his comeuppance
ALSO The World of DBZ appeared on a multimedia CD included in a promotional package of Kraft Dinner in Canada and that thing is the reason I GOT into DBZ in the first place
WHAT?! Disney has the right to make a live action Dragon Ball movie? O_O
Yes Fox owned it and now Disney owns Fox so technically they can make a dragon Ball movie anytime they want
@@Vegeta-bh2uz I kinda have the feeling they won't or else they'll piss off fans for the sake of money. But I heard the copyright of Mickey Mouse will expire in 3 years
They could also make a Pixar Dragonball movie..
@@zacheray Is there a Pixar live action movie? Cause if I recall, they mainly make animated movies.
12:16 FYI, Speedy Video has closed its video stores last year, so RIP.
Was really expecting chrono trigger to be on the iceberg as Toriyama did the art for the game
Now those DBZ A references make sense
30:58 had me dead😂😂😂
15:10
Y'know Roshi's voice is pretty good in this dub
16:07 I live in Canada, but I remember that intro vividly. was unaware of the other intros.
10:36 Besides the 'correct' translation of Goku' name, maybe the translators knew about dragon ball z and thought about renaming the character to something beginning with Z.
I never knew about Big Green. I almost sprayed my drink out of my mouth during my commute when I heard Gohan say it. 😂😂😂
the abyss is where is located the meaning of why pilaf gang suddenly turned into kids on dbs
Cell has DNA from all the Z fighters but his techniques are all advanced. SO the idea of his cell clone minis are evolved eggs that perhaps if left to grow would become full grown cells.
Now that begs the question why he didn't leave one hidden as a backup, and the answer is planly by the time he was strong enough to leave one, he was too prideful to think he'd need one.
Maybe one of the reasons for aging Gohan is that kids are introduced into martial arts as young as four I speculate.
"Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!" was actually big deal when it came out since it was the first DB story in more than 10yrs and it was actually canon. It's whole purpose was to be a nice nostalgia trip to the fans. Of course it didn't offer any serious story arc but it was nice to see the old characters once again..
Regardless of one's opinion of Dragon Ball GT in general, it's OP Dan Dan Kokoro is one of if not the best song the franchise has ever produced.
Dude. the bridge of Khazad Dum theme just made me laugh so much. I need to use that in this type of context. haahahhhha
Picollo looks confused in the seaweed paste commercial because Namekians don't eat
