so awesome, you are the only reason i comfortably started my manual swap! I thank you for everything, i'll be starting my swap this up coming weekend and i'm super prepared and excited because of your video's!
BTW i totally used these videos to manual swap my impreza and i love it Im about to H6 swap my legacy and i will be piecing together your videos for that too!
+Datsun Z thanks! I like having a bit more time to put into polishing the videos before I upload them. It can be hard to balance actual work on the car with making the videos and meeting my upload schedule.
I’m 19 and plan on manual swapping my 98 Legacy wagon don’t have the knowledge or tools to do it yet lol but I’ll come back to this comment when I get my first action on it haha
Hey mate. I’m converting my 01 GT Forester to manual and I’m just wondering where you found out about the wiring of the auto plug in your legacy. I can’t seem to find much for the Foresters anywhere. Cheers
Hey, I put the pod filter on my 2005 GT. I went from about 18 highway to 21.6 highway, and about 14=15 combined to 17 combined :) It costed me $30 for the pipe and the filter, then I had to make a custom adapter to fit the maf sensor. It should pay itself off soon :P Manual swap in the summer!
Wanting to convert my 97 legacy outback limited. Found a 95 manual legacy for $400. Plus my lift kit will be here in 3 days 👍 lots of work but worth it I think.
I just bought an '04 Impreza WRX it has a CVT transmission and I am interested in converting it into a five or six speed any recommendations are help would be greatly appreciated
Has anyone swapped a loyale 5 speed transmission into a early 90s Subaru outback? Im going to be buying a long travel kit for an outback but I like my 4 by 4 loyale transmission.
Hey Aaron, so I'm having some problems with my manual swap. It's a 97 Subaru Legacy 2.2l everything i'm swapping came from the same gen, everything bolted right up. i can't think of anything or see anything i've missed. so you turn the key to the first postion still have power to the ecu/code reader, turn it to the second it loses power to ecu/code reader, and then cranks and cranks until rarely it starts up fine.
Why did you go with such an old tranny instead of finding one from the same year and model So a quick breakdown ill need trany shifter setup driveshaft clutch cable/master cylinder setup What about axle shafts are the automatics and the manuals the same and how about the pilot bearing Is there anything i missed?
Hey bud I have a question. I’m swapping a motor from a auto into a standard . I noticed the tone wheel for the crank sensor is notched different . Im using the original tone wheel from the “new “engine . What are your thoughts ? Which one would you use . I’m somewhat thinking. They might be different for low end torque?
could the ignition switch possibly be a problem? it just cranks and won't start, when you take the key out it all the dash light except the check engine light stay on. Including wipers, headlights, blinkers.
+Trig ez yea could be. Maybe something you did on the ECU? Or did you cut off any automatic wiring? You might have given power to something that shouldn't have it.
I've got a rusty outback vdc, and the ez30 only has like 165k on it. I want to throw it in an already manual forester, how easy do you think that'll be? Apparently the motor mounts are relatively similar and the trans fits well. Is the wiring gonna be a big problem
+Sube Tube depends how comfortable you are with reading wiring diagrams. The factory service manuals are available, so it's pretty simple to merge the harnesses.
Dirtcheapdaily I'm pretty incompetent when it comes to wiring. Would it be better to use the factory wiring and try to make it work with the stock ecu, or would it be better to buy an ecu like a megasquirt or something
How well would this work swapping a manual into an H6 outback? I understand the wiring would be tougher as the H6 never had manual version in the first place like the H4 did - thoughts?
I figured it would. I understand there's some ECU disagreements between the H6 and the manual because unlike the H4, the H6 was never intended to mate with a manual. What do you know about this? Will you be posting the results/process for the swap?
Yes benching the R160 rear diff can be solo...sheesh lol, I put my axles in while the wheels where still on, bit fiddly but was able to line up the impute shaft into the diff on both side then jack into place, make sure you check the seal surfaces, I added some grease to the inner wheel bear seal and CV axles here is a where I found that info at "briansmoble1" CV Axle Tips and Tricks Newer Subaru or Most Anything Else ua-cam.com/video/9IOUiy2n7aI/v-deo.html
I love your videos I have a few questions. I have a 98 Legacy GT Sedan AUTO. I want to make into a Manual. Can you give me a break down of what kind of donor cars would fit? Like the year span and body style? Example what legacy wagon/outbacks/imprezas from this era will fit and give me all the parts i need? I found a 98 outback 5 speed for $300 in my area with a blown engine. Thanks again!
+Jason Nope just like your last name, nope. Lol. I'm not going to spoon feed you any more basically than I have in my episodes. The information is out there and easy enough to find with a little research on your part. Going through and watching the full length manual swap episodes will be a good start. You should have to put in some research time so that you will know what works and what doesn't and for what reason. Sure I could write out a list of everything, but that's because I've made myself an expert through my own research and experience. I'm here to help, but I'm not into dishing out giveaways that limit your growth. The full length episodes have a list of all the parts you need for the swap. 👍🏻 Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
I mean, I'm not worried about my growth. LOL Im not doing this myself. Im trying to pay a friends shop to do it. Im just trying to know what kind of totaled subaru i should be looking out for. You just seemed very knowledgable with your experience of doing this I thought you would be able to help me with this.
So I'm new to the Subaru world. I just bought a really nice 2002 Outback L.L. Bean Edition for $450. Then saw a 2002 Outback car for parts (complete minus the engine) for $180. The donor car was a 4 cylinder, but has the 5 speed. Has what I assume is everything for a manual swap?? Is that worth the effort to do? Did I get a good deal?
@@ridingwiththereids Well, I have the 2 cars. The 2002 Bean has the leather, and the 2002 standard has the cloth seats. The cloth seats look like new. The leather has the normal cracking and wear from age, but no actual damage. More just coloration changes.
Bro, what are the odds of swapping from an auto to a manual in an 01 subaru outback? The auto SUCKS! My uncle gave it to me with a brand new transmission in it and it's jerking into every gear. I don't want to keep changing transmissions in a $1200 car. These Subaru automatics are junk.

Please update me on your process im in the market doing the same year swap.. hope you get this lol

just the one from the automatic.
Trig ez how did it turn out?
Don't forget to add a timing guide cover if it's not there!! You can skip timing if the car stalls.
EXCELLENT video though! ✌ ❤
I always wondered what that thing was around the crank when I did the t-belt on my 02 WRX. Now I know...

Vehicle speed sensor simulator; you can trick the ecu for those folks that want to run a different transmission. Enginewiring.com solves that.
What one should i use for my 01 subaru out back

yea power in accessorize mode, and it losses power in the on position, and wont start.
+Trig ez but it cranks?
If it doesn't crank, it's the starter energizer circuit you need to get power to
it cranks, theres power to the starter after I jump the wires.
could me not swaping to a manual dog bone be a problem?
Thanks for sharing!!!

+Goob Z pre98 doesn't have the trans lights in the cluster.
At least mine didn't.
What tools do you need for this job? just standard sockets and all that or specialized ones?
