I believe Poch earned the right to keep his job going into next season. However the real problem here is the names on this supposed uninspiring shortlist to take the reigns going forward. No disrespect intended towards these managers/coaches. This Chelsea is far removed from the Chelsea I grew up with yet we have to be aiming for a more established manager with top level experience

  • @user-qr4sq2nn1i
    @user-qr4sq2nn1i Місяць тому +29

I think Poch sold a bill of goods to the directors and owners about his ability to coach a possession based side that utilized the profile of players they have purchased.
It is so clear to see that he tried early, but clearly had no ideas how to execute that. He was trying to mimic Pep with moves like Colwill at LB, but had no understanding how to make that work.
So Poch then decided to go back to what he knows, Bielsa style football. That is not the game the owners have decided to put the money towards. I agree that 6th with the youth and injuries was a good result if we are being honest.
But if Poch came to the table after the season and said, “I want to play my style and players like Enzo aren’t who I want to work around going fwd.” then he is going to get replaced. The owners have clearly invested in a specific vision and direction: techy, good in tight spaces, etc.. with the idea they will posses the ball and control games. Poch clearly stated that is not how he operates. If the team finished 10th, he’s begging to stay. But given they had a strong finish, he knew there would be other opportunities. So make your demands and if they give in, great, if not - we will part ways.

Fair play. Don’t know what people’s obsession with Spanish style football is. It’s ultimately very boring for fans unless you have very good players like De Bruyne, Iniesta etc that take advantage of gaps

The owners want to have full control over incomings and outgoings and for the manager to shut up and make it work...there is a disparity here between intent and common sense. You are going to need a god tier manager in charge to replicate the success you have had.

Our high possession was only happening because we often times passed around laterally especially at the back with no aim to progress the ball hence opposition teams felt no threat and allowed us to waste our energy.
Often we conceded goals while passing around aimlessly and being pressed.
Up front the only 'tactic' employed was to press high(hence why he loved a workhorse like Gallagher) and recover the ball and in his own words 'let the players express in the way they want to play' meaning allow the forwards the freedom to be creative and come up with ideas because he thought them nothing.

I think the most likely ones and realistic that we r gonna get are :
    1) Kieran McKenna -> I think don’t rule him out, if he comes we give him a chance, bumping Ipswich two divisions is a respectable achievement. Omari Hutchinson comes back from loan and he sed the player he wanted sign was Hutchinson so this might be an incentive.
    2) Enzo Maresca -> one of pep’s right hand men, and he has that inverted full back tactic which would work well with Chelsea.
3)De zerbi: he’s gonna get a good squad with Chelsea and he’s worked with mudryk, levi , and caicedo so he can bring the best out from them.
In my opinion, one I see us getting is enzo.

Poch done a remarkable job for a team that has had 8-14 players out injured every week and with one of the youngest teams in Europe. The owners should have at the very least let him see his contract out with the players he had at his disposal. He stabilised the dressing room now it’s all on its head once again.

I would have kept Poch if possible to maintain some stability and continuity for once but we shouldn't like he worked miracles. You could argue that all the manager options that we are linked are tactically superior to Poch and they all have good reputations for having strong player relationships. The only thing Poch has is his name and CV, but you don't need those to be successful. Xabi Alonso, Guardiola and Hansi Flick all achieved historic feats in their first 2 seasons of management. If you have a talented squad (which Chelsea do) and a manager that can get his tactical ideas across clearly and get buy-in from the players, you can be a competitive team

Josh from an American boy from Sacramento CA… that was as good as any valley boy accent I’ve heard. Joey you’re 100 percent right about where we are at the moment. People are judging this Chelsea team as if we have player like Drogba Terry and Lampard but we aren’t their yet. The money we spent, we spent on potential and that doesn’t show right away. I think the owners are looking stupid right now but we got what we needed out of Poch, which was to develop these players, we 100 percent should have kept him but let’s see maybe we get a guy that will take us to the next level. Aka like when Steve Kerr took over for Mark Jackson and won the NBA title his first year with the Golden state warriors. Just trying to think as positive as possible.

There is a big difference between a player getting better and performing better. Mainly in the way they are used. An easy example would be Colwill. Did he get better since the start of the season or did he just stop playing LB? I think most of the performance increase we saw was simply because Poch started getting a bit of a clue.
I wanted Poch for another season just for stability for the players, and that's it. I think he sucks as a manager outside of the players liking him. I don't think his tactics are good, he's slow to change, and most of all, he has a loser mentality. Too many games he just decided we're gonna park the bus and try to ride this out...and it backfired. That's not how the top teams play. They score another goal and close the game out. That's why I think we've heard things about them wanting the next manager having the mentality to go head-to-head with Pep and Arteta.

Funny u say that… ten hag wanted to go head to head and even said his famous line… “ eras come to an end “ but it got leaked he’s gettin sacked after fa cup final so ten hags “era” finished at the same time as klopps and before peps😂😂… words r just words and I liked the fact poch didn’t hype himself up and was realistic and humble… our team is pretty shit and we have to come to terms with that… ppl think that mudryk is some type of insane winger but rlly he is most likely gonna be an Ukrainian Daniel James… Jacksons poor szn is masked by stats but if u watched every game u would see he ghosts quite frequently and he lacks in technical ability… some of our defenders r completely clueless and it seems as tho enzo may not be made for the prem as he plays a lot slower… we can give benefit of doubt as he’s got an injury but realistically I wanted to see a lot more from a player we bought for 100m

  • @Barbariansdagger
    @Barbariansdagger Місяць тому +6

Poch also said once that up front they are just passing it to Palmer to solve things...like wtf!!!
Mudryk has the ability to find insane progressive passes,he is direct and has pace but still rushes and takes poor shots or makes badly timed decisions on when to dribble and often makes runs nobody is able to read because they don't train tactics hence players did whatever.
How many goals have we conceded at the back post like the one Bruno Fernandes scored against us at the Bridge...tons of those never addressed!

The saddest part is that the valid points you raised about why poch should be out are not the reasons why they would've sacked him. If those reasons were true to them, then he should have been gone after the arsenal game. The owners have no clue and regardless of the manager they appoint (even if it was Jose with JT), our apprehension will remain. We will stick true though, up the chels.

    We’ve jumped 6 spaces. That’s good movement.
We need realistic goals. Next season our aim should be cup finals again and top 4, 5 acceptable but disgruntled.

Poch quit after being called to the headmaster's office after the onfield tantrums and the loss to city. He then took control of the young lads and changed his whole demeanor as he knew he was leaving. The players started to respect him and played their arses off the last five games. It was his performance as much as trade involvement. But still got the underlying Moneyball issue as Josh said in his video

    Unknown Candidate: Xavi Hernandez?
Hear me out, I know we have a bad past with Barca, but the clues are just adding up now.
Firstly, I think we are being too reactive as a fanbase just because we liked the football that was being played just before Poch left.
Noticed I said “left” and not “sacked”. This is because, it was a mutual agreement, meaning Poch equally felt that he should have left. He’s already eyeing up the United job.
While it seems concerning from our viewpoint, I genuinely don’t think the owners (Boehly specifically, but that’s another conversation), have the worst interest for our club. Again, HEAR me out.
It has been said that they want someone who can merely ‘take their suggestions’, rather than taking full control, but apparently, Poch was described as “cold”.
It seems upsetting from our viewpoint, but we need to realise that Poch never had a proper bond with our club, just the players. He came from Tottenham so he already has the feeling of not belonging, but just here to do a job, as he addressed numerous times in pressers.
While it is showing a lack of stability, we have to rememeber that Poch equally wanted to leave. We need to move on and accept it for what it is. If you don’t move on in life, how can you make room for improvements? Poch IS NOT a winner.
I say that to say that, Chelsea have reportedly made links with a high profile manager, and this makes sense for it to be Xavi as he will be getting the sack next Monday, and the club is announcing Poch’s replacement on the following Friday.
Xavi Hernandez is a good manager, winning La Liga with his Barca team, in a league with Real Madrid, Atletico etc. Xavi also likes working with young players and we can see that he has made Lamine Yamal , a promising young star imagine what he can do with Cole Palmer, Enzo and Gusto etc.
He revived Dembele’s career but Poch ruined Neymar’s with worsening his injuries. If Xavi brings his medical staff, we could see an end to our injury curse. For those against this because Xavi is from Barca, you were quick to defend a SPURS MANAGER when he’s going out the door. Xavi may even apologise as he’s more outspoken than Poch.
We can’t get too attached to Poch as he’s just the guy before the guy. I believe the guy is Xavi. A footballing winner. The board wishes to sign the next manager for a longer contract than Poch’s 2 years, so imagine the league when Klopp has gone, Pep gone next year etc. Chelsea will be back on top and the league will have proper title races.
Even if those teams still had those managers, Chelsea would still be amongst them if Xavi was our manager…

cannot agree that any player has improved under Poch. Caidedo is now showing the form he showed at Brighton, as is Cucarella. So can't attribute any improvement to Poch there... Badiashile has got worse than he was under Potter if anything. Gusto has been good but lets be honest, who watched him last season?
In fact for most of the players you guys mentioned, it's just that their performances have improved in the second half of the season - not that they have improved as overall players.

On top of that he also wanted cole palmer at brighton before chelsea wanted him, he's a manager that also have a good relationship with lewi colwill. The only players I'd say Poch has actually improved are Gallagher and Cole Palmer. Cucurella was shocking until the last seven games, and Enzo's gone downhill under Poch. He couldn’t get a tune out of Mudryk, and while there's been a bit of progress with Madueke, it's not enough. The squad as a whole hasn’t really improved.

  • @DeanHolloway
    @DeanHolloway Місяць тому

Personally I think Poch's style of play was not really suited to the players we have, some yes, but not all. Enzo being one example. I'm not really sure he knew what to do with Colwell and Lavia we'll never know. I truly believe if we'd stuck with Poch next season, then it would of been as inconsistent as the last one. Maybe finding a coach who suits our players could actually be smart. Because let's face it, none of the players weve recently bought are going anywhere for at least 6 years! And ffp won't allow us change our plans as we've committed too much into it.

@@iannnCFCWhy didn't they sack him then? Why now? Even that Arsenal loss was 1 in 15 games. The moment was shifting but most of the fans minds were already made up. Hey he's gone now most probably join United and it would be hilarious if they finish above us next season. I just hope they make a better appointment and the way things are going I doubt they would.

You guys keep talking about Bohely and Eghbali as being clueless Yanks who know nothing about football and making decisions that make no sense. What you fail to mention is that they have literally employed two Brits, Winstanley and Stewart as directors of football, who have both been directors and scouts at multiple English and European clubs for decades before they arrived at Chelsea and who have a ton of experience in football. They are the ones advising the owners to make the decisions they are making based on analytics and a chosen method and philosophy. The same methods and philosophies that they had employed at clubs such as Monaco, RB Leipzig, Brighton, etc. I'm not saying the decision to sack Poch was correct, because I don't think it was. I was definitely Poch in. But this stupid narrative of clueless Yanks making braindead decision about football is ridiculous. Moreover, based on many accounts, Bohely was also Poch in. He had taken Poch out to dinner before our last match and did not want to see him get sacked. It was Eghbali and the two ENGLISH directors that were advising Eghbali, that decided on getting rid of Poch because Poch couldn't work withing the confines of the methods and philosophy that the two ENGLISH directors of football have brought to Chelsea.

Basically the directors and owners wanted Poch to build a team with the players they had. (The project)
Poch built the team, and the directors want to dismantle the team by selling the players within the team.
So how can you build a team; create an identity, environment or atmosphere when the structure you’re building is constantly being compromised by changes.
    There lies the problem.
I am not a big fan of Poch, never was. Didn’t want him from the start.
But he was fighting against a tide, that was never going to go in his favour.

We know he was in London to hold talks with Chelsea not West Ham and probably it's all kept secret because of his cup final in Portugal.
That's why Fabrizio is sure that Chelsea will announce the new manager in days not weeks...it's already set up.

It's called 4-4-2 & shows you some very interesting stats of how Chelsea play without Enzo & Gallagher in Enzo position & vice versa. You will be very surprised. Plus a deep dive into playing out from the back & how successful it was & also are pressing game and how effective it really is. Josh you will love it.
