How to Start Trading - The Long Dark Trader - The Long Dark Broken Silence Update
Edit: Thank you to @geneziz7553 for clarifying you do not need the local transmitter to be repaired. You just need to reach the day requirement and need an aurora.

This is very well made and has clear and well articulated instructions. Instead of 15 or 20 mins mindless droning this was short and sweet. Kudos for a job well done😁
It takes this many days on each difficulty level
Pilgrim: 15
Voyageur: 20
Stalker: 30
Interloper: 40
I was actually hoping that the trader would be locked behind acquiring the handheld radio for Signal Void, and fixing up the whole tower network. That way, it would be a thing earned by a long-running save -- rather than instantly available to new playthroughs. But I suppose people who want to have it more restricted, can simply impose that rule on themselves. Either way, I like the addition.
@@blackcatredriver5878 this would have made a lot of sense, I would like this change a lot. You also don't need the trader early game to resupply limited resources, so it makes sense in that way as well
That would be way too much effort just to get access to the trader. Most people wouldn't bother with it if it required that much work.
@@ToastyBits Maybe so, but it would be more consistent with the lone survivor narrative. A reward for having survived. I mean, all the Far Territory tales, and a lot of the long-term achievments (500 days, faithful cartographer, maxout all skills, etc.) are also too much effort for many players. But that's not necessarily a reason to make those things easier.
But in any case, they have added it, and made it easy to access -- I'm just saying what my preference would have been.
Yeah, i have found the trader ti be utterly pointless until at *least* day 30. Probably closer to 50 depending on difficulty. At least, you should have to repair the radio nearest coastal highway, as that would actually make the most logical sense
@_mycotroph it depends on the difficulty. Its 15, 20, 30, and 40 days for the difficulties, with both Interloper and Misery being 40.
Interesthing fact: the radio also works with elctrostatic fog.
I was on my day 140 on my 500 day run on FA and headed to the ZOC , i waited for 2 days on the camp for an aurora but i got a fog on noon , while i didnt hear a voice i decided to try the radio and IT WORKED.
Did he respond though? He shouldn't because he would not have power for his radio.
@ToastyBits yes.
Weird. That's not right at all. That breaks the game lore. 😥
I got the call as soon as I got in my day 112 save. I also haven’t repaired any transmitters so it’s not required.
@@squallyoats7694 I had two back to back Auroras while hanging out next to the radio at the train station. Now I'm down in quonset waiting day after day and getting nothing but hungry
@ThatCasualZach Go fishing in the meantime. He will likely be asking for fish anyways.
I am working towards the 500 days achievement with all tales completed. I have repaired all transmitters except DP. Trader triggered on the first night for me. Auroras are bit frequent.
Where did you answer the traders first call? If it was CH, then you don't need the transmitters at all.
Wait is there a transmitter in DP? Where is it exactly
Next to the triple trailer at Hibernia.
@@ToastyBits It was CH.
So you got the call at CH and didn't have the transmitter at DP fixed. Therefore, you don't need the transmitters. Thank you for clarifying this for me.
10 flour bags. I could weep with joy.
And there are new sources of cooking oil as well. Time to make a thousand pancakes!
omg thank u so much for this video. haha let me know where to find the wood tools and photo camera if u know😏
The camera is at the weather station in Sundered Pass. I'm still looking for the tools, but so far the cannery in Bleak Inlet, Minery's Folly in Ash Canyon, the Langston Mine in ZoC, and Cook's Farm in Blackrock all have potential spawns.
off topic but whats your opinion on the new furniture system
I haven't built any yet, but they look great from the preview images and the trailer.
0:30 Were you mentioning me Toasty?
Maybe. I don't remember.
@@ToastyBitswhat the frick..
I got the trader no problem i cant find the woodworking tools to save my life though lol
That's also worrying to me. With the camera, I believe there is only one and it's the same location. The woodworking tools sound like they are exclusive to specific locations. The locations that make the most sense are the Langston Mine, Last Resort Cannery, Maintenance Yard, and Hibernia. I didn't see it at Hibernia, but I wasn't paying full attention there. You can find them at the Langstone Mine and the Miner's Folly in AC.
@@ToastyBits The Dam would make sense for different kinds of tools, too. And maybe the prison. It will be interesting to see where they turn up.
Yes. These sound like possibilities. It's the places that make sense to have them. Mining and industrial locations for sure are worth checking out.
There are no radios in my current run. I enabled the trader when it gave me the option and completed SV, BE, and LH. Still no radios. I'm 93 days into this run and I really don't want to start a new one right now. Any ideas?
It unfortunately sounds like a bug. You need to report it to Hinterland.
Are items that he offers really randomized while starting a new game? Wiki says that some of the items he always sells(flour, ammo and etc.) while some of the items are unique. I assumed that the unique items refresh when certain amount of days pass.
Considering that he's the only source of the blueprints for the new wolf clothing, a couple of new recipes and a couple of new tools(unique bow, rifle and knife) and a ton of consumables like canned pineapple, caffeine pills and stuff it's pretty damn sad if so.
Yes, it is random with some items being consistent.
Anyone else have stuff disappear after the update? I'm in Sundered Pass and I lost everything in the first cave including my bearskin bedroll.
@@Stranzua Same here, had a save before the update in transfer pass, loaded up the save after the update had gone live and my bearskin bedroll and plenty of resources on the floor had disappeared
@@BgRobbins427 Yeah, not cool. Very unfortunate and it's definitely not the first time its happened. I think I've lost some things when past updates dropped but I was never 100% positive. It is possible I moved it back to the Transfer Pass, but that's the last place it can be. If it's not there it went bye bye.
@@BgRobbins427 Oh yeah, I did also come across a little box labeled 'lost and found'. Had a few odds and ends. If you try to drop decorations a box appears. You never know, maybe we'll get our stuff back 😄
@@Stranzua hopefully the beadroll is waiting for you in transfer pass haha, this is the first time it’s really happened to me and I’ve had this save through multiple updates, oh well guess I’m going hunting for some bears😂, where did you come across the lost and found box, nothing like that showed up for me and when I’ve dropped decorations already nothing else appears in the box?
@@BgRobbins427 Hooray! I was leaving Sundered Pass and there was a box in front of the exit with everything in it. A whopping 129kg of stuff. Maybe you will find yours! 😄The first box I found was in the 1st cabin in Sundered Pass and the 3rd box I found was in front of the door to the Concentrator in Zone of Contamination. That one was weird because it was full of stuff I left at Idle Camp. Why wasn't the box at Idle Camp, I have no idea.
Game is unplayable ubtil bug fixes come. I made my cudtom house saved it put my some loot in box and after i came home again box disappeared. And cabinet doors are broken.
That sucks. Hopefully they fix it ASAP.
i think trader is not avaible on xbox because it doesent appear to me anyone can help me?
You need to wait a certain number of days if you started a new save file.
But is it locked behind the DLC?
Yes
For 20 bucks the DLC is worth it just for the tales and new unique tools. The good ones are hidden in desolate and dangerous places too just like technical backbag in vanilla. Gives you some nice goals to do on survival while travelling the island looking for stuff.
@@mr.strugglesnuggle6668 so if it buy the dlc do I get more stuff in the survival game mode?
Yes. It is all for survival mode.
@@cajann69 Yes all of the DLC stuff is for survival mode but no, you won't find any more loot out in the world unless you play custom sandbox and specifically make more loot spawn.
The DLC adds unique tools(rifles, revolvers, lanterns, bows...) that are found in fixed and mostly extremely dangerous regions(Blackrock, Ash Canyon and etc.). It also adds some handcrafted stuff and a trader that is pretty well balanced thus far(he asks for a lot of basic stuff in exchange for limited goods like flour and unique tools/recipes/blueprints/canned goods/supplements that can only be acquired from him).
That is all on top of the new regions, the challenging side-quests added to the survival mode, the rewards for actually managing to complete them(cool acessories like the rifle holster and some feats) and the cougar, which is actually a really dangerous adversary but very rewarding if you manage to hunt one down.
Since the new update, the game pure crashes your whole ps5, absoulute freeze......
It sounds like the update pretty much bricked PS4 and 5's. It sucks. They have neglected the platform way worse than Switch. At least they have a planned Switch update to fix the performance. PlayStation desperately needs this as well.
