If New Orleans doesn't offer him a head coaching job, they don't deserve to keep him. Allen is lights out on defense, but they have a real choice to make about the future of this team.
This is why teams these days typically hire offensive minded head coaches. Don't get me wrong, I love Dennis Allen. I have enormous respect for Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy, Mike Tomlin and all the other really successful HC's that came from the defensive side of the ball. However, the problem with having a defensive minded HC is that you have to have somebody else running the offense. If you have an offensive minded HC like Sean Payton or Andy Reid they can call their own plays and no matter what happens the offense continues with a degree of continuity. If you have a defensive minded HC and hire a young OC two things can happen: 1) they can fail and your team can suck or 2) they can succeed and quickly get a HC gig somewhere else in which case you go back to the starting point. Hire a new guy and the same two options. When I watched the Saints in pre-season it became obvious to me that the offense was going to be very different - we had Payton and Carmichael calling plays for 18 years - and I was excited about what that could mean. It looked good to me. Well, it hasn't been good, it has been great. Two weeks in and Klint Kubiak looks like he's about three months removed from a HC gig somewhere else. There is another route. If you hire an offensive mind you appreciate that is 55 or 60 years old you can have him for 10 years because he probably won't get hired away even if he's very successful. The one exception I can think of in the last ten years is Bruce Arians. He still wouldn't have had a HC job if his HC in Indy hadn't been diagnosed with cancer.

When you become a Head coach it takes a lot of discipline by forming structure and being a Head coach is a big responsibility because not only you are the leader of your coaching staff but your players as well and the game is bigger than x's and o 's....not to mention the egos and different personalities you have to manage
Y’all have to remember being a head coach in the NFL isn’t as luxurious as it sounds. One bad year and you’re moving your family somewhere else again. It’s a revolving door. If a head coach is getting fired, it’s not likely a good situation you’re heading into otherwise the coach would still be there. He might like the situation he’s in

I love how the Saints express their Faith in Christ. Maybe thats what we have on our side that other teams don’t.
