As a survival instructor i would mention to try and not let the water go into your “clean” drinking water off the bag. Once you dipped it into the trash bin it pics up the bad water and just dribbled into your clean water bottle. Try to dry it first. Or add iodine tabs to the water as well. Good stuff my friend.
I mitigated that on trail by tilting the Cnoc. Never once did I think of using… the pack towel.. clipped to the outside of my pack…to dry the Cnoc! Thank you for the tip! This is how we learn-in community!

The Sawyer membrane can’t be frozen. Not so much the water as it is the membrane filter itself.
