Lyrics
Old Norse:
Dró djarfliga dáðrakkr Þórr
orm eitrfáan upp at borði;
hamri kníði háfjall skarar
ofljótt ofan ulfs hnitbróður.
Hraungalkn hlumðu, en hölkn þutu,
fór in forna fold öll saman;
sökkðisk síðan sá fiskr í mar.
Óteitr jötunn, er aftr reru,
svá at ár Hymir ekki mælti,
veifði hann ræði veðrs annars til.

English translation:
The warder of men, the worm's destroyer,
Fixed on his hook, the head of the ox;
There gaped at the bait, the foe of the gods,
The girdler of all, the earth beneath.
The venomous serpent, swiftly up
To the boat did Thor, the bold one, pull;
With his hammer the loathly, hill of the hair
Of the brother of Fenrir | he smote from above.
The monsters roared, and the rocks resounded,
And all the earth, so old was shaken;
Then sank the fish, in the sea forthwith.

“There is a fundamental reason why we look at the sky with wonder and longing-for the same reason that we stand, hour after hour, gazing at the distant swell of the open ocean. There is something like an ancient wisdom, encoded and tucked away in our DNA, that knows its point of origin as surely as a salmon knows its creek. Intellectually, we may not want to return there, but the genes know, and long for their origins-their home in the salty depths. But if the seas are our immediate source, the penultimate source is certainly the heavens… The spectacular truth is-and this is something that your DNA has known all along-the very atoms of your body-the iron, calcium, phosphorus, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and on and on-were initially forged in long-dead stars. This is why, when you stand outside under a moonless, country sky, you feel some ineffable tugging at your innards. We are star stuff. Keep looking up.”
This song was absolutely breathtaking...
Dan B Beautifully said! :)
Dan B I believe the gods put us here we have forgotten our ways but there’s a few who wander waiting for a purpose soon that purpose will be known our gods will return and those true will be given passage war is our way to the heavens the heavens are the way to our world we may live on the land of the gods many have disregarded this those who have need be driven to the point of non existence we are the gods or at least their descendants, we are the army that fights in ragnarok that battle may be light years away wat better way to build an army, go to a planet suitable of life destroy the beasts that inhabit it, to make room for a hidden army. Governments politics none of it should exist this is our land the people’s land why have welfare when any man can wander through a forest with just a saw and an axe and build a home nicer than any modern housing and build something worth protecting things will change war is the way. Odin whispered to baldur a secret worth keeping sacred I believe this is our sacred secret. Skol

video games are no place for art. at least most are not
@@peterhoffmann2231 Video games themselves are art, actually. Just because you don't appreciate something yourself doesn't determine whether or not it's art.
@@arabiannights5301 wise words my dear friend
@@arabiannights5301 He's right. There are videogames which are indeed art but most AAA-videogames are just cashgrabs and has nothing to do with art itself. And Ubisofts games are a good example for that.
I don't know what I can say about this song.
It fills me with a sense of longing; as if I need to head home. To my true home, whereever it might be.
At the same time, I feel confident in my purpose and self-assured that, one day, I'll discover what the reason for this strange longing might be. I see all that defines this world - light, dark, or something else entirely - and accept that it is part of our existance.
The only thing I can say for certain is that I absolutely love this song. It is marvelous how you can turn "simple" poems into works of wonder.
Thank you for your beautiful reaction! I feel honored by your words!
@@Gealdyr I feel honored that you answered me. I just discovered you a few days ago, but your songs are so great. All of them.
I don't know how I missed all of this.
Just imagine the viking life, a storm at night in your boat in the atlantic the wind in your face, feeling the wrath of thor, gives me chills
I imagine the Viking's travels to the Eastern countries like Roman Empire, Persia.
Some us don't have to imagine, we were there during that time as vikings ourselves.
And don’t forget most likely you won’t live too long wich makes it even more exciting

Hail to the Midgard Serpent Jörmungandr, the One who encircles the world, the Magic of this earth, May Jörmungandrs'scales encirle our realm an protect us.
This song touched my inner being. Which payed back the beauty with my tears.
Why, WHy, WHY IS THIS ARTIST NOT MORE POPULARIZED??? This is outstanding work. Amazing masterpieces. I hope you keep creating authentic Norse music. Keep up the great work 💪🏻💯
This song is beautifully enchanting. Languages like Old Norse and Gaelic have such a musical sound to them, and I must say your voice compliments the lyrical content perfectly. I've been creating a fantasy world as a basis for storytelling, and one of the creatures I've including in the lore is derived from Jormungandr. Any time I write a story which mentions him, I'll turn this song on.
Gaelic sounds musical because I think they used to always rhyme their sentences at one point, basically putting everything into verse
If you think you are a viking with no northman name and beacuse you have a beard , that does not mean that you are a viking hehehe

@Norsefire What do you need to now my brother?
That is what we are looking for my brother have some faith we all do?
Thanks for this masterpiece of music....you have send my soul to the old gods...
Once lived a man, a man of his word, a man who put others needs before his. Just to be betrayed from whom he least expected it from. Left, betrayed in the howling winds and cold nights with no place to shelter in. He never forgot, he never forgave. That day he realised, only the strongest survive.
Wow, i can relate man.
is this about the story, when king gifli made a journey to asgard, and met the goddess gefion, and she betrayed him. he gave her a patch of land, but she chose a large meadow where all the food of the people came from and destroyed it. is it from there?
This is great, thank you for sharing. Where and who is this story originally from and about?
richard_henry13 I came up with it myself, I love coming up with random little stories or quotes when listening to master pieces such as this.
outsider I actually never heard of that, but I came up with this myself. Now that you mentioned that I will check it out :)
I honestly don't understand the music, but i like the sound and the tune etc... I don't know why youtube recommended me this but i honestly really liked this. It makes me feel like i'm wandering and walking with no destination.
I'm Hellenic and this song is so peaceful. The Midgard serpent strengthens it's hold of the earth due to this. Skal!
May you go to the halls of Valhalla :) Skal!
Hellenes and Nordics are two close branches within the indo-european family.
Despite being on the two opposite extremes of the European realm, that's perhaps whats kept our spirits alike - the isolation among mountains and waves.

edm is my usual go-to music genre but lately i've been absolutely fascinated by this type of music. it's not the kind i would dance or work out to, but the kind i sit and relax and become entranced by. it's so magical and really just takes me to another world. also i love your voice, and i really like the animation on this video. it creates such a dreamy atmosphere and makes everyday problems feel so far away. i'm definitely going to listen to more of your work!!!💞
After been listening to Ymir by you and Danheim, I instantly had to listen to your music and I have to say: I don't regret a single second of it. This is absolutely beautiful! My the Gods hear your voice and love it! 💜

I can't express my feelings right now about how amazed I'm with this song
Although I wasn't born in Scandinavia my soul and heart will belong there forever - your beautiful languages, nature, music, mythology. They are truly amazing. And your music, Gealdýr, it is a gift from the Gods!
It is in music like this, that stories are told and the legends will never truly die.
Found this music through a mod for Crusader Kings 2 as I like playing around Britain and Scandinavia this gave a feeling of a closing of a chapter an end of Rome and feelings of safety and instead feeling of a darkness rising of chaos taking hold of world.
I wish you all the best , may you keep gifting us with these songs , much respect!❤
This song will touch everyone’s hearts even if they couldn’t understand a thing. Your voice really carries a tune that makes people cry for no reason. You are amazing
I’m impressed. This songs makes everything still and calm... and wakes up something deep inside.
Sometimes, listening to music and songs from all over the world, of regions known and unknown, i can't help but be glad that we are gifted with something as devine as melody. Keep up the good work brother.❤❤❤
HYPNOTICAL AND AMAZING SONG ! thank you Gearldyr !
Why i end up crying everytime i listen to Nordic folk music :'(
It has become one of my favorite Nordic voices. Absolutely wonderful!
This is touching deeply into my Slavic/Germanic soul
You see , during the ancient times, here, we worshipped Zeus Hades and Poseidon . Hephaestus , Hermes and Apollo . Some would say that we can not appreciate this song due to the fact that it's essence is foreign to us. The only thing I can say now is that music is TRULY UNIVERSAL! I love northern viking music. It's magical. I love it man. Great job Gealdýr! SKAL!
And then you embraced Jewish God, the sky dragon YHWH, and threw away your old fathers Gods. Thats why Greece is a joke of state and people for 2000 years.
Pure perfection
Great music and I love the vocals(really good voice, seriously)👍

Finalmente esse youtoba tá me recomendando coisa boa
This song makes me feel things I haven't felt in so long that it should be impossible to feel them, I have a sense of instinct, a feel of power, a mindset of pure calmness, intentions of that of a godlike will, the essence of the anger and hate and anguish and pain and suffering of an eternity of omniversal resets an the inhabitants that used to be there, the very existence at ones fingers, with such a song I feel the will, power, knowlage,invulnerability,immortality,and many other things of a god, and whether or not I could use it.
Beautiful. The best when you are alone in the forest
