We are planning a honeymoon in France with our own car. Investigating how French motorways work led me to this video. Very helpful, thank you! Is there any other motorway paying system used in parts of France? For example, in some EU countries they have vignettes (you need to register your car to be able to drive in the motorway, there are no tolls, and it's valid for 1 week or 1 month for example). I don't want to end up with a ticket due to lack of knowledge :D
Hi. We're glad you found the video useful. As far as we know there are a few cities that have the equivalent of clean air zones that you have to pre-purchase a pass. I can't remember which ones but definitely the middle of Paris. I wouldn't like to drive in the middle of Paris anyway, it's madder than London! Have done the outskirts which was busy enough.
We've seen some people get out of their car. The barriers only appear to shut again once you've driven through. We have difficulty because of the height of our motorhome the machine thinks that we are a lorry and chucks the ticket out of the highest slot!
@@Karma_Mechanic I'm sure it will be fine - there are not normally big queues, and regular users have a special tag, and go through dedicated lanes so you won't be bothering them!

What happens if I am driving alone in right hand drive car, no passenger, the toll booths all looked geared for driver on left?

They are contactless machines. So no pin.
Well my contactless chip is broken in my card so I have to put it in somewhere, did they thought about this?
did you have to put in your pin number ?
No pin number is not needed. Just place card in, wait for it to register then take out.
