You're the man Winston! Thanks for being the only dude who seems to post diy videos on this year accord!
for a long time I was ordering pilot bushings and I was confused on what it looked like. I'm glad i found this video again to see what it looked like. Hope your motor runs smooth today man! Thank you.
Good clear instructions in your video, a good tip is to take a marking pen and number the heads of the bolts in the order that you will torque them, so you can be sure not to miss any or you can mark them individually once they are torqued. Do not over torque bolts because you actually begin to weaken the threads, torquing is just a measurement of how much pressure you are putting on the bolts, hence to avoid from under or over tightening them.
I recently changed the fly wheel and the clutch on my Honda Accord and after viewing your video, I am now sure I did the job correctly. Great video
excellent video, thanks for breaking it down and building it back up! just picked up a cb7 and I'm ready to install a stage 1 clutch kit.
good video that covers the key points and should get any DIY'er through this expensive shop job.
yup, i came here to see if I was missing something, because the throwout aka clutch release bearing, just seemed too clunky to be installed properly.
....well yours looks the same, so im guessing its just that floppy, lol.
Start at 20lbs of torque on all bolts, step up to 40, the 50, 60, 70, 76. Takes time. But completely necessary, you can still put it on crooked, also put excess stress on the bolts, and the mount point, which will weaken over time. Also. Don't over tighten. Factory specifications are specific for a reason. This was quick and dirty. There's a time and place for that, but its not very... Wise. If you can, take your time, take pride in your work, and take effort to be extremely thorough. You are doing master mechanic level shit. Time to act like it.
This really helped to double check my work on my teggy, Thank You for the video.
Thank you so much man.. i don't have a car but i plan on having one this year hopefully so i've been learning as much as i can in the past 2 years!
Came here to see how hard it would be to replace my clutch, stayed because you wear MechaniCrocs too!
Why the haters with thumbs down I thought this video was better explained than most and he uses extra thread lock we're a lot off people just use what's there good video my friend
Its also recommended to torque in stages for the flywheel bolts instead of going straight to 76
Just out of curiosity I was looking to see who had the most viewed CB7 video and guess what, lol.
Yep, its you.
Great video BTW, I watched it a few years back.
Keep up the great work brother.
Later.
Wow that's a pretty clean h22a. well done.
I don't know anything about transmissions, but I do know a lot about fasteners. Do not over-torque your fasteners! They are designed to withstand a certain amount of clamping load and over-torquing your themwill cause them to fail when they are pushed to what would otherwise be their normal operating limits!
I resurfaced my old flywheel because it wasn't so damaged beyond repair. The bushing was given to me by the shop. You could either get one installed or you can ask for one to install yourself. If I needed a new one, you can always get a new one from any parts store. But make sure it is OEM or close to OEM brand.
What size socket was to tighten and loosen the bolts to the flywheel?
Hey mate just an enquiry regarding the dowel pins on a flywheel, are they for strenght as well as location for the pressure plate, reasons being a friend of mine has a lightened fly wheel which has been machined and there is no area left to fit the dowels, l myself have been a mechanic for 34 years and have never come across this.Any advice would be appreciated.
The dowel pins are mostly used for ensuring proper placement of the pressure plate onto the flywheel and to hold the pressure plate in place when spinning
Just what I needed to know thanks.
Great video bro helped out a lot!
Hey man great vid:) but remember next time would be better if you torque the flywheel in 2 steps!
I did, but I accidentally edited that part of the video out to make up for time...
Several years have passed since this video, how was the performance of the exedy clutch? Has it been good? And what did you not like about the clutch? If there is something you did not like, would you recommend it?
The performance is awesomely good! I had no issues or complaints about the clutch so far! I highly recommend it 😁👍
Great video! Awesome instructions on how to do it right. However, a bit of a reality check - clutch jobs at diy level often do Not have the tranny out - engine and tran are unbolted and separated a bit, and the gap is all a parking lot mechanic can get ... could you make a video of that please? I have had a clutch changed like that in an accord, but wasnt watching.
When you are using a torque wrench you should not be holding onto the silver portion, despite what you may see in videos. Check the owners manual such as Craftsman 13919: "Holding the wrench BY THE GRIP ONLY*, apply SLOW
AND STEADY pull until a momentary release impulse or ‘click’ is felt. Release tightening pressure immediately
when the release is felt.
Great work brother 👍👍👍
Fantastic video friend. If I had the tools to do this job, I would do it today without worries because this video covers everything you need to DIY. BTW, the spray can that you use to clean the flywheel and the pressure plate is brake cleaner?
What size socket did you need for removing the flywheel bolts? I called orileys and they were no help =/
do you put grease inside the pilot bearing were it touches the crankshaft?? also the pilot bearing lip goes towards the engine or towards clutch???
Great job. But I am afraid from dust when you pout these parts on the ground .
What did you use to hold the flywheel still?
....im stumped!!!!
I wedged a metal bracket between one of the starter teeth and a part of the block
@@winstonbuzon That will damage the starter gear teeth ... Use chain ..bolt it to engine block and to the flywheel .. or use rope/shoestring .. ua-cam.com/video/JnoHU1pBIvE/v-deo.html
No problem! Good luck with your flywheel! :)
i am coverting from automatic to manual; the little notch to line the flywheel is not on mine does it make a difference
That was a really awesome and learned alot from it i just literally just got done doin my first clutch install and a engine swap on my cb7 everything came out good but tha clutch pedal is too low do i need to keep bleeding it till its good or what step did miss i had bew clutch plate and new flywheel
I have to really give it gas to make it not vibrate but when I go to hear down it shakes and vibrates to. What clutch should I get for smooth operation normal
where can i buy that grease you put on the spline? and also do i need to do the flywheels at the same time as clutch? i only bought the clutch and didn’t realize that the flywheel may need to be replaced too
The grease usually comes with the clutch kit. I would attach the flywheel first before the clutch but the clutch & flywheel should be done together because of you just change the clutch without ensuring the flywheel is still in good condition, you'd have to do this twice, so why not do it together? The flywheel may or may not need to be replaced depending on the condition of the flywheel. If it has minor hot spots, you can just resurface the flywheel. But if you're going lightened performance flywheel, you might as well do it now while the housing is off the engine
Whats the socket size you used for the flywheel bolts
@jorge corona - the bracket that holds the shift cables
Hey Man. Great Videos I actually think you do a better job than many professionals out there. In explaining and showing. But I got a question. I own a 97 Base Prelude with a H22a4 Engine, and my transmission works great, I believe. Its a 5 Speed Manual. When I put it into gear no matter which, it kinda pops in there, and that does not sound right to me. But the part that worries me, is when I'm getting in the freeway. Going about 50 MPH, at 3 RPM. And ready to switch to 5th, it goes into the gear, but it sounds as if it grinds a little. Not on my transmission but on my Shift Lever. Please reply if you heard of this before or anything. Thanks.
No way of knowing for sure without removing the tranny from the motor. Sorry...
If it pops out, check for the clutch fork. See if it freely moves too much. As far as the grinding sounds, it sounds like a pressure plate problem... But like I said, there's no way of knowing for sure until you remove the tranny from the motor to inspect. If there's enough room, you won't need to remove the tranny completely to see...
Very helpful. Thank you.
Hi, where did you get the flywheel and pilot bushing from? The flywheel I have did not come with a bushing, and honda does not even show a bushing...
Nice video !! Quick question, my clutch kit did not come with the pink grease, what kind of grease is that and can I buy it in autozone ? Thanks
What kind of metal bracket and how did you use it?? Winston Buzon
Thank you brother... Very helpful vid..
What did you use to spray your flywheel to clean it?
nice video, what method did you use to keep the flywheel from spinning while torquing it to spec?
im sure its mentioned in the comments some where... just didnt want to spend time searching lol
I just used a metal bracket of some sort and wedged it so that the teeth of the flywheel locks up
Hi, where did you source the bushing the goes in the center of the flywheel? I recently had mine resurfaced and it looks like they removed it.
What did you use to make the flywheel not turn?
My friend give me a hand I'm doing the clutch on my civic ex D6z6 can you help me with the torque for the flywheel and the pressure plate please thanks
Thanks for the vid. Helped out alot. By the way is that a h22 or f20 series?
Another question it lost a little fluid how do i put more fluid on it
Did you go with a exedy oem clutch or the exedy racing clutch?
How much torque did you put on the bellhousing bolts? Nice video

It's pretty complicated because different bolts have different lbs.
So r u satisfied with that torque wrench?? Since it only beeps resulting with an extra ft/lbs....
By the look of the vid it seems the old school is better that releases at given torque....
I've done an off-camera comparison with my torque wrench & my buddy's torque wrench, and so far it's been on-point
What socket size did you use to bolt up the flywheel bolds and was it a 12 point or 6 point?
very nice job !
For 2000 Civic's Flywheel Bolts, what size is the socket (9:38)?
Thanks for your vids, I've watched a couple of them. Very helpful. BTW, what size socket did you use for the flywheel bolts? I think I looked at an 11/16in and a 17mm and I didn't like the fit of them. Neither felt snug enough for torquing.
Look for anything that fits - there is no guarantee that whoever put those bolts in last used the right ones
Hello! Can you please help me regarding the following situation: Today i went to an enginner for my car in order to put out the oil pan, clean it and put some paste on it to avoid oil leaking. But he made a mistake because he put a screw in the wrong place and it came in contact with the flywheel. We figured it out after we start the engine and heared a squeaky sound. He moved the car a little bit in order to elevate it and to find what happened. (The good thing is that i didnt drive my car, just a little as i described above). My question is: Should i be worried if any damaged occured to the flywheel while it came in contact with the screw? Thank you in advance
Nikos Chatzinikolaou You should be worried when your driving experiences has changed, like more noises, vibrations, and other weird or unusual behavior from your engine or transmission. If you're really concerned, you should get a second opinion from a professional like a transmission shop. As I have stated before, I am not a mechanic or professional. I'm only sharing my experiences with folks...
What kit did you buy? I have an h22a also does the alignment tool come with the kit?
Man I got a cb7 and it's got a brand new stage 1 clutch but every time I go to take off it grabs hard hard and shakes the whole car is this normal operation for them
Hey, I don;t know if anyone has asked already, but do you think you can post a video or send me a link on how to take out the transmission and old clutch (for honda of course) before installing the new clutch?
It depends. Are you planning on removing the entire engine? Or leave it in-car?
My transmission is still in the car. How do I get it out? The clutch job is pretty simple once you can access it.
Laurence Rilling If you're looking to do an in-bay clutch job, you would just have to still get anything that gets in the way of the Long block and the Tranny housing bell. Why? Because once you are able to remove the bolts, you will need to separate them as much as possible to remove the clutch and flywheel bolts. Trust me, it's going to be extremely tight spaced
Laurence Rilling Or... You can remove just the housing bell by removing all of the Tranny bolts BEFORE you remove the Tranny mount.
Are you have any. Issues after you like miss fire old the cylinder maybe if you don’t put factory clutch
I did my in the Honda Civic si 2015 and I got miss fire. And old the cylinder for some reason
Do you know what can cause damage to the flywheel? because my car makes a loud rattling sound and I took the starter off and noticed that the wheel had been damaged, I replaced the starter and it didn't help, my friend took the trans off and the wheel was dent and it was making contact on the base but he bent the base straight and replaced the wheel and it still didn't go away.
It depends on what materials were used to make your flywheel. Usually made of steel or cast iron, if it was made of other materials, that is usually a factor on why they would be damaged... Find out who made and what materials were used to make your flywheel. Also, turning the key on the ignition while the engine is on could contribute to that problem.
burrito eater, I left a message for you, send your wife over for a lawn job
are all installations/ replacements of flywheels the same for the most part?
mine go in gear without me pressing the clutch and it wont move as the wheels dont spin, have any idea what i did wrong?
Is this for standard transmission
Or automatic transmission? I know zero about engines...
@winstonbuzon what the name of those blot
Clutch and pressure plate torque specs?
hi winston, can i use a manual transmission flywheel onto automatic transmission
They replaced my clutch in my front wheel drive and now my ring and pinion growls. What could have happened?
Mark Pogo Wouldn't be able to know unless you retrace the steps for installation. Sorry
What year accord is this and would this work on another model accord?
This is a 91 EX with H23A motor. The general principles are the same, yes.
hey Winston my flywheel has small rust from motor sitting in my garage what can I do to clean it
andy placencia If it's still in good condition, I would have it re-surfaced
Winston Buzon thanks yea is in good condition it's only from being in the garage
andy placencia If you don't know how to clean off a little rust you shouldn't be working in engine's.
Awesome thanks.
What pressure did you put the clutch cover?.
Luis Hernandez The torque spec for the clutch cover aka pressure plate is 19 ft/lbs
I would never apply threadlock, if it happens to melt you then your torque specs will end up being less than the required amount.
What did you spray to clean the parts with near the end like at 13:51
what size socket for the flywheel bolts?
repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/1c/03/c1/medium/0900c152801c03c1.gif
So that's why they sound so much different than the old fly wheel
very informational and great video! k?
10:40 WHAT ARE THOOOSEEEE! 😂
Huh? He is torquing the flywheel bolts, not sure what you mean by "those"..
Good jod frnn
the splines on the input shaft must be greased so y say remove any grease from it
Just enough to grease it but not too much to where it wil get on the clutch disc itself
Sorry I did not here you say grease it I thought you said remove all the grease
Lol, no, I meant to say to remove the excess grease so that it doesnt splatter all over the clutch disc and ruin it
where is the starter motor teeth?
The application of pink grease with your pinky was very...relaxing.
check out the one where he is polishing the wheel.
It made me cringe lol
