p.s. David, do a tutorial on how to hold a fiddle in the old style like you're doing. I've been through ten or so shoulder rests. Now I'm reading how the baroque violinists didn't use, either, shoulder rests or chin rest. It looks easy, but I still can't control my intonation.
Great idea, John. I've actually had others ask about this over the years. Will consider it. Two quick tips: it can help to use a shoulder rest to stabilize when you first start. I like the "Playonair." Just a cheap inflatable pad. And try playing standing up with the fiddle over a bed or couch, just in case. You'll be less worried about droppin it.
There is very strong evidence Copeland pilfered this from Stepp..DDAD tuning correct ? I love your videos and blog and I hope to see more ! I think you maybe have the best fiddle lessons on YT ! You can’t hardly find legitimate OT fiddling tune tutorials where folks actually talk in depth and get into the nitty gritty aka the nerdy stuff lol Keep on keeping on 👍👌✌️
Hey, I'm so sorry I missed this when you first posted it. Thanks for the very kind words. I had the same feeling when I first started the blog: a lot of people post about how to play tunes, but they don't really talk about sources. I'm hoping to start posting again, but I'm in kind of a lull with my fiddle playing lately. Hoping I get inspired again soon. Maybe festival season will do it. All the best to you.
This is the first step-by-step guide I've seen for this beautiful and complex tune. Thank you!
Also glad this showed up. This helps my version develop and improve.
You are absolutely right about the upbow on that high F#. Thanks for that!
Great lesson. So glad I found it
Glad you think so! Sometimes I completely change my mind about stuff I’ve said in these videos 😅. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, David!
Glad you liked it!
Great playing!
Thanks, Russ!

@@gambarunner I'll try it. Thank! But we hope you do a video on it, too, someday.🙏

beautiful playing!
Thank you! Are you any relation to Bill Stepp?
@@gambarunner I don't know. Probably though. Oddly enough, I'm a guitar player myself.
What is the tuning of this violin? DDAD or GDAE?
DDAD
