I see the Black Kow as being necessary. Dont listen to the haters your gardens are alway beautiful. Also seeing fish as being necessary for a wonderful garden. I make my own compost and like to use fish also.
I started using Black Kow after noticing buyers at Lowe’s buying it over all other products, even tho their other soil products were “bargain barrel” products. I was already using peat for lightness and water mediation. Once I got black kow mixed up with the other soils, it felt right. It sells out early, too. @@mousiebrown1747 Hi! I hav been buying peat for yrs and its always been so dry looking and dusty but I assume that's what it looks like right? Im new to this gardening thing and i made the mistake of using potting soil mix to transplant my seedlings and nothing else, no compost or perlite of fertilizer, and was wondering why my plants wasnt growing and ultimately died... So now im here looking at your video again and im going to make my soil just like you and try again ... Thank you for so much insite on gardening in containers...
Hollis I really enjoy your videos I've been trying to do container gardening the last two years last year We just had Tomatoes and Peppers & I had 3 plants that grew a nice stalk They were as tall as the eve on our house But didn't bear hardly any fruit I wanted to top out the plants at 4 ft But my wife said leave it alone we got busy taking care of the grandkids & 4 weeks later they were taller than me & I'm 6 ft 3 this year hopefully will be better
This year add more phosphorus. Be careful what you fertilize with. Too much nitrogen will cause them to grow tall and leafy with no fruit. I recommend Bone Meal for the phosphorus (organic). If you prefer something else look at Rock Phosphorus
I wish I had seen this. I was tryna scramble to find stuff like vermiculite and all that complicated stuff. This is stuff that's readily available at my nearest Lowe's for about $33 bucks (off sale). This helped a ton! Thank you so much.
Great video, Hollis! I added some Black Kow to a new okra bed this spring and it is doing quite well. With all the pots you have to fill, have you tried mixing your soil on a tarp instead of in the wheel barrow? You can at least triple the quantity and lift up the edges of the tarp alternately to mix it. Just a thought...

So glad I came across your video. We just recently moved and the ground here is all rock. We have obtained a lot of large tubs for planting until we can get a good garden bed going over the next few years. However, the cost of potting soil was really discouraging us this year. Your video has given me hope again that we just may be able to afford filling these containers and getting going with our garden finally. Thanks
This is exactly how I've been making my potting mix, with the perlite and all. Good stuff. I've grown some very nice veggies in 5 gallon buckets with this stuff. I like to mix a little blood meal in as well. I also make my own fish emulsion to fertilize with.
@@dannypalma8159 I usually add specific nutrients according to what I am planting. You can also add Garden Tone which is an even mixture. Can't go wrong with that stuff.
We use similar methods of making our poting mix except it is soilless. Instead of potting mix, we use compost and we sift everything with the added vermiculite, perlite, bone meal, blood meal, kelp meal, and worm castings. Thanks for sharing.
