Murmeration of birds over our Medicine Wheel workshop in Evia

We watched this beautiful display from outside the hotel we are using in Evia, Greece in November 2017. Hundreds, or possibly thousands of birds, Starlings we think, gathered and flew together in a compelling and beautiful murmeration. These displays are amazing to watch and one wonders how does each bird know when to move or change direction to keep the symmetry with the flock.
The group watching this were working in the "North" or the Inca Medicine wheel, with the archetypical energy and medicine of Hummingbird. Hummingbird shows us how to place ourselves in the flow of all things, in the flow of the universe, so that we can connect with something new, so that we can connect with a future not dictated by our past. Mathematicians and Shaman both know that there are patterns that occur in nature which demonstrate the symmetry and harmony between all things. Mathematicians offer us the Fibonacci sequence which describes the pattern of creation in living organisms and many naturally occurring events. I'm wondering if it applies to the as yet only partially understood flying patterns of these birds?
"In particle physics, synchronized orientation is found in systems with 'low noise,' in which signals are transmitted without degrading. But low noise isn’t enough to produce synchronized speeds, which are found in critical systems. The researchers give the example of ferromagnetism, where particles in a magnet exhibit perfect interconnection at a precise, 'critical' temperature," writes Wired. The flying patterns of the birds seem to demonstrate just such a critical system.
But science aside these flying patterns are beautiful to watch. And we could not help but feel the synchroncity between the event and our work with the medicine wheel beneath them as they flew over us.
