Glad to hear you enjoyed this one! I really liked it too and it was my fave McDowell until I read Cold Moon Over Babylon which I think is even better :)
I have tried to get into Cold Moon, but the characters are not as interesting or deeply fleshed out like they are in the Elememtals. In the Elementals, I feel like I know each character so well. Even compared to McDowell’s the Blackwater saga (which is 10x longer and more fleshed out)… I still think the characters in the Elementals are so well realized and defined that I keep going back to the book. And I recommend the Audible version to anyone who enjoys horror. And the narrator made this experience so much spookier than reading it.
Mcdowell wrote the screenplays for Beetlejuice and nightmare before christmas! I read cold moon over babylon this year, want to get to the elementals soon
@@BradProctorReads yeah I thought it was decent. Kindof a classic southern drama with like familial secrets and plotting and stuff, plus some horror aspects. Worth a read👍
Great review, per usual. I wonder if I have moon over Babylon. Sounds familiar. I think I might skip this one for now, but I may try it out one day. :)
Ughhh but can Friday be over already? 😆🤣 Awesome review Brad! Man. People have to stop selling me on books! My account and wallet is HATING me! Ohhhhhhh wait...that’s a great idea for a goofy horror book! That’s it I may have to become an author now! 😳😆🤣
Could you provide a list of your favorite Southern Gothic novels, short stories, stuff like that. I’m working on something for grad school. Thanks I’m advanced
Here is a list on Goodreads with a ton of Southern Gothic books on it. Hope this helps. www.goodreads.com/list/show/16019.Best_Southern_Gothic_Literature
So true, this book would be a great adaptation, especially from Mike Flannigan!
Flannigan would do a great job at adapting this.
I started this book in 1982, and haven't been able to finish it. Maybe I'll try again.
I wasn't even born in 1982 🤣

McDowell seems to have had a thing about elements with the Blackwater saga being a standout.......
I REALLY need to read Blackwater.
Agree! The Blackwater is amazing, I just finished it

@@BradProctorReads Hahaha! if ONLY I had the talent to ACTUALLY write it! lol
The Elementals has been on my TBR forever. Maybe after the Christmas rush.
Same for me. I had been wanting to read this forever. I'm very excited to check out more of his work.
The Haunting of... season 3 is a good idea 💡
I'd love to see this book adapted for television.

Hello Julio. Are you wanting a list of Southern Gothic or Southern Gothic Horror books?
@@BradProctorReads Really both, I am not ruling out Horror. Most of the times Bloodlines and family plays a role as well.

No A\C in an Alabama summer? Noooooooooooooooooooooo way I'd be out there.
The writing made you feel how hot it was lol.
Great job‼️
Thanks Cindy!
had heard great things about this book- just finished reading it...not much horror and not that great!
It's definitely a slow burn of a book and not a lot of action when it comes to the supernatural stuff. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
