- Real-life Dobuita after snow, compared to how it is portrayed in Shenmue - amazingly similar! (Filmed Jan 2018).

Similarities are scary. I'm not sure if I could walk 100 meters without bursting to tears. Even watching a vid of this is overwhelming. Have so much love for the game and the location. Played it in 2001 the first time on Dreamcast and am playing the remaster now on PS4, to get in the mood for part 3 arriving soon. Thanks for the vid, man. Really envy that I can't afford doing that. So, thx 4 sharing.
Thanks for your comment, loved hearing your story. Playing the first games before Shenmue 3 arrives is the perfect preparation!
This vid feels like a time warp to the 1980s.
I was hoping Tom Actually worked at that food truck and said "Hey Ryo" !
Haha, I would have dropped the camera if he had been there!
stay groovy ;)
Wow Shenmue really is the most epic game ever made!
100% agree! :D
I got really warm and fuzzy when you showed Suwadai Shrine: Felt exactly like Shenmue, especially since the music you chose at that point always reminded me of Shinto Shrines...
It really does have that Shenmue feel. Listening to the Shenmue soundtrack while walking around would be the perfect combination.
Hi. You're so very blessed by God to have visited the real life Yokosuka, the best place in all the Shenmue series (including 3, for sure). There's just massive amounts of charm in it.
Pray we all migrate and live there. I'll choose the street where the toys are, near Ryos home or the house next to the pet temple, lol.
God bless, Proverbs 31

Was this the day the snow turned to rain?
This is excellent btw 👍🏽
Haha, yes it was "that day"... The video quality isn't the best but I was really happy to have been able to capture at least a taste of the special atmosphere. Thanks for commenting!
It would have been a lot better had you shown first, the real life location, followed then by game screenshots, and then the real life location once more.
This would have given the viewer a better opportunity at appreciating EXACTLY how accurate the game depictions are.
One thing I _will_ say you chose excellently, was the background music.
It is PERFECTLY Shenmuesque.
One last note I wish to impart - lots of Japanese people (and those even outside Japan) aren't keen on being filmed without the courtesy of being asked.
I realize that I don't know how busy or quiet Dobuita St. was during your filming, but please can you remember to factor this in in future :)
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for suggestions! I'll keep them in mind for future videos. :)
Awesome video dude, love that snow squishing sound :P
Who can resist walking through it like Ryo!
Great coverage Switch, thanks. It must be great to stroll in the streets of Dobuita during this time of the year.
In some of the places that you've shown I could really imagine the presence of the characters in the game.
Fantastic. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for you and Phantom River Stone.
Yes, Dobuita and Christmas / New Year feel like they belong together, and I'm glad you were able to get a feel for the places from the video. Hope you also have a great end to 2018 and we have an exciting 2019 for Shenmue in store for us!
soooo many drunken nights here
This video shows just the incredible love for detail of yu suzuki. As he said, they took images and to reconstructed the ambience and feeling of the places, but without necessarily copying everything to detail. We'll.... Quite some details are indeed there to be found😊 clearly, the places in Shenmue 2 are slightly less true to life, but still having their references and feeling of the real life places... From back in the 80s of course 😁
Loved this, especially the photos ♥‿♥
The locations have a strong Shenmue vibe, ideal for photos :).
thank you for shenmue videos, especially this one, a treasure for me a shenmue fan who never been to Japan
It's especially people like yourself that I had in mind when making it, so that is great to hear. I hope you will be able to visit the real location yourself one day!
Great Work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this! I had randomly queued up a load of songs in my library with 'Christmas' in the title and 'Christmas on Dobuita Street' came on... I took a wander round here 18 years ago. Shenmue sure had a lot of soul. I bought a coat from the shop @ 2 mins in - have never worn it ;)
Shenmue has such a great real wintery atmosphere. How cool to have explored Dobuita soon after it was released, and still have the coat! Was your visit at the time inspired by the game?
@@PhantomRiverStone I was late to the Dreamcast party, but during a visit to Tokyo at the time we had a friend in Yokosuka so I just had to hit up Dobuita Street :) I didn't go looking for sailors though there were a couple of US navy types about.
@@crtglowgames Haha, sounds like you could have given Ryo some pointers.
You are amazing
woah. be careful. it looks slippery.
Is this from an upcoming Shenmue remake? :o
Happy you got that vibe from the footage!
Lucky you!!! Thanks for sharing, this video is pure magic.
Thank you! Really glad I was able to capture it. I felt just like Ryo, crunching through the snow. :)
