WHOA! A 42-year-old Mattel blunder is redeemed BY A FAN! The Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper toy that actually FITS the vintage figures!!!!
#RetroBlasting #BattlestarGalactica #Viper
My laptop screen cannot contain Michael's enthusiasm for this.
This is awesome. I really respect that he didn't make a screen accurate upscaled Viper, but a toy accurate upscaled Viper. The nostalgia kick is incredible.
You're enthusiasm is infectious and I can see why, what an incredible toy. Thank you for bringing this to our attention Michael.
he kind of reminds me of that UA-cam video of that kid opening up that in 64 and being super excited
Fans are saving the culture, nicely done recreation by Robert. He can definitely win over other fans
This just made my evening. I am in total AWE right now and I soooooo feel your pure enthusiasm for this gem of a toy. Incredible...
YES to everything Michael has said and laid out! The industry is so far behind from where the fans and consumers are at now! They are almost clueless.
The fans are doing the best work. This is so awesome
When I see amazing stuff like this Viper, I can't help but wonder what 3D printers are going to be capable of in another ten years. The potential is near limitless. Want a Gunstar from The Last Starfighter that you kept waiting to see at Toys R US, but never materialized? Wait no more! The Phantom Cruiser from Space Ghost? Done! Just buy the pattern online and some time on a printer, and you're set.
A Gunstar would be amazing!!!
Sir I know that you have done the Cylon Raider and the land ramp one vehicle out of all Battlestar Galactica I want you have in your friend made is there any way that he can make one for me because I have been trying ever since the show began and I saw it way back when I was about two maybe three years old I've always wanted a toy sniper because I love the show and I love the way the ship looks so if you please help a fellow fan collection finishes collection of cool and badass spaceships
3D printers can already make amazing prints these days, check out the RPF to see what people are doing with their 3D printers. There are also 3D printers that can print with far less noticeable to no lines, but these are high resolution printers and are usually too expensive for the average hobbyist.
@@Riceball01 Yes, modern 3D printers can make amazing things already, but only for people with a lot of expertise working with these machines. Computers were capable of all sorts of things in the 70's and 80's, but it wasn't until the time came when they became easy to use for the average person that they came into common usage. That day hasn't arrived for 3D printers yet, but it will. The sooner the better.
I just ordered one! Thank you retroblasting!! You just made a longtime wish come true!!
Mike's enthusiasm is awesome. I want one now!
I had one of these when I was a kid. Brings back memories.
I had a gold Cylon and a regular silver Cylon action figure.
My brother had a Colonial Viper model and my other brother had a Cylon fighter model. I told him that the Cylon fighter model look like the Cookie crisp.
Someone needs to do this for the Galaxy Rangers toy line.
ROTFLMFAO!! I said the SAME thing when I was little!! I had half a box of Cookie Crisp spread out on the table one day making a cylon invasion.
WOW is that a little kid I see on my screen, VEEY NOSTALGIC 😲😀👍
Hey Michael and Melinda, love you guys and what you do. You two look so young, so I'm positive you are well under my 51 years of age, but you have such similar toy taste to myself ( hopefully that doesn't make me seem creepy ), that I like to think of us as contemporaries.Lately, I have gotten into a kind of strange collectable kick. I now collect "wearable" star wars black series ( and Hasbro toy ) and marvel legends items primarily helmets and weapons like stormtrooper, shadowtrooper, shocktrooper, incinerator trooper, clone troopers, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron Xwing Pilot, LUke Skywalker Battle Sim Helmet, Boba Fett, Iron Man helmet, Black Panter Helmet, Ant Man helmet , Captain America Shield, Infinity Guantlet, Mjoulnir Hammer, Star Lord Space Helmet. Fun stuff.... cool to me , super nerdy to everyone I know. I would love to hear what you think of these kinds of collectable/toys. PS. I was at K-Mart as a kid found last Viper ov the shelf ( still had working missle launcher before recall) was at register paying for it and cashier said "box is damaged and missing proof of purchase seal" she thinking she was doing me a favor refused to sell me "dammaged " toy. Never saw another BSG vehicle in store again. Missed opportunity.
Gorgeous product!
I made my own viper out of paper towel cardboard tubes. I remember C-3PO fit in the pilot seat nicely.
👍👏👏👏👏👏😊Great speech.Specially in a society that time trough times tries to molding everybody.❤
That Viper is totally awesome! If Mattel made that back in the day I would have begged for it to use with my Star Wars collection. Man imagine Luke's X-wing gets shot down by Vader's TIE and General Madine is like "ok send out our secret weapon" bam Viper! And Madine's figure had something to do!
This is one of the greatest toys I've ever seen. OMG that will indeed fill the void on my BSG shelf! I sent you an email and hope I don't miss out! Thank you so much for bringing this beauty to light!
That is a work of art Michael
I remember coming across a vintage Viper at a flea market and thought “this looks cool, but it’s too small for my liking”, and seeing this has me saying “woah, now THAT’S what I’m talking about!” Definitely a stand out piece in any respectable collection!
Can you say "Awesome" one more time? Lol!!
Its fun seeing you so excited like a kid on Christmas morning with a new favorite toy. Enjoy!!
Man that is one hell of a squadron with all those fighters lined up like that! Quite the sweet toy really wish something like that was around in those times of yore.
This was interesting. As technology improves, individuals gain the ability to do amazing things that in the past were possible only for large organizations. These days, amateur astronomers are taking better pictures of Jupiter from here on Earth than the early Pioneer probes took from close up in the 1970s. It's really exciting.
That is nice! =D I would have loved something like this back in the day.
Damn it Mike, be careful with that red rocket! That thing flies into your mouth, we'll never get the Melinda Fett missile firing jetpack 6 inch Cobra helicopter pilot action figure!
Hey Michael. I never got into Battlestar, but your joy lifted my spirits. And I was bummed NC Toycon was cancelled, but hope to see you and others at Joefest.
One thing that might help with the adult toy hunting is cooperation? We could work together as different cities/regions have different stuff.
The giddiness and excitement with which you talk about this is so fun to watch. Not a fan of Battlestar but this is a great video!
Hey .... You X's
Are not the only one's that like to collect items like that .
I'm a " Boomer " I have a few thing that I've collected from my early years .
Star Trek ( tos ) , Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea , Los't in Space , Batman ( tos ) , GI Joe's ( 60's ) and so on .
What I miss is the items that you have ( even though I was in my twenties when these show's aired )
I didn't know that there were item's like this until long after . By then it was too late to get any figures and ships and if by chance I did come across any it would be after I paid my rent and bills and not enough to try to put it on layaway .
I also missed out on the Star Wars figures .
But what I really miss is the " Major Mat Mason " collection .
" Thanks So Much Mom "
Everytime we moved the stuff that I was going to keep always got lost in the move .
I literally said the words "people in their 50s and 60s as well." I guess you didn't hear that. Don't worry. Your generation is still the center of the universe.
@@retroblasting
You've got that right
And I've got the Star Ships to prove it .
And you're right I jumped the gun on your enthusiasm .
I was one of the kids that swallowed a missile in 1978, Mattel paid for all the hospital expenses after my father dislodged the plastic I was choking on. Mattel was very attentive to my parents and to this day I am sorry about ruining shooting toys.
Wow that ship looks great. I loved Battlestar Galactica but even as a little kid I thought those figures were junk compared to Star Wars and never collected them.
your excitement is infectious, Love it!!
Killer! BSG rocks!
I didn’t fully pay attention to this video until Michael unveiled the Viper... Now I’m like WTF?!?! The fans truly do the best work! Thank you for showing this!!!!!!!
I had some of the Battlestar figures when I was a kid. I don’t remember for sure. I know they made Starbuck, Adama and even the “dog” (Was it’s name Dagget?) but either I didn’t have or they didn’t make Apollo. I seem to remember having to use Han Solo for Apollo.
Holy fuckin FANDOM.
I love seeing Michael so enthusiastic and excited for something, instead of angry and disappointed.
that vipers like a Cadillac it makes an X-Wing look like a Mazda Miata
You need to add a "cat screech" sound effect after you shot the rocket at 14:45.
That is beautiful 😍
Oh heck yeah!!
When Hasbro killed the 3.75 inch Rise of Skywalker line, it meant no vehicles, except a $100 vintage collection Poe x-wing. But they launched a new 5 inch line for the movie. Totally out of touch.
They killed it? No wonder i haven't seen any
Talking about scarcity... He doesn't even started. Here in South America never get those weird, chase toys. Yeah, this is the future.
Think we'll ever see a toy of The Searcher from Buck Rogers? I hope so.
Or hawks fighter
I owned and played for hours and hours with many of these same toys (I'm old) and I had forgotten that my cylon raider was not to scale with the figures! I vaguely remember getting to fit Luke skywalker x-wing fighter figure in the cockpit of a "space 1999" eagle. it's incredible to think how many of these "treasures" are buried in landfills! Anybody got a hazmat suit and shovel I can borrow?
Truth! Preach!
Cool video. I want one too. Hopefully he will make the figures too.
I sent you an email for the link.
Love your reviews / content!
I watch and give each one a like!
Thank you Michael.
"Now witness the awesomeness of this fully armed and operational missile launcher!!!" I do not care about the original BSG but I loved this video because of your joy and passion! (the essential ingredients for why the fans are always doing the best work) Always good to see the enthusiastic Michael
Nice.
Fantastic
Well said.
How about for the cylon raiders have an interchangeable cockpit seat for the cylon or a hole cut out in the cockpit
Very cool!
Loved this! Subscribed..
That's awesome!!! While I never had a major issue with the smaller scale toys, you're absolutely correct. Things would have been different, had Mattel created Battlestar Galactica vehicles the same scale as other franchises' vehicles. Still, Mattel was not solely to blame. ABC cancelled the series after one season. That was the nail in the coffin.
Also, the original Mattel Colonial Viper had wings that could articulate up and down in three positions. I don't know why, because it never happened in the movie or the show, and it also made the toy a lot more fragile, as the wings ALWAYS broke off.
That's sweet
Has there been an exo squad video yet?
how long is it gonna be before a cease and desist order is served.....
It's the Bantha you are talking about, isn't it?
i can't like this video enough, thank you so much sent you a email!
This is the Roy space ship but do not eat it but it's okay for kid play but don't eat
This massive nerd's mic drop is firing a spring loaded missile
"Massive nerd" says the guy who calls himself "Rayblade"
@@retroblasting you're more right than you know! it's from a DnD campaign where the DM insisted we all have the most blatant fantasy dork names possible, and he named me Artanis Rayblade...
Do you think he can do SPACE 1999 eagle
For the Cylon Raider figures, i would think that Robert could make new Cylon figures with 5-point articulation to go with the ship. Especially since the original raiders had a crew of 3.
If you don't mind saying, what was the price point on the Viper? Thank you
$150.00
Can you tell me where I can get it?
Goddammit... I'm not even a fan of Galactica and I want one...
BSG was and probably remains my childhood favourite series, maybe Blakes 7 runs it close. I had a few figures, boy were they shit. Like really shit. The Imperious leader? Garbage. Cylons looked cool but like you say had zero playability. Dagget was probably the best of the lot.And i don't think it moved at all, but it looked like the real thing (to my childs memory). I never had a vehicle, actually thats wrong, I had the land crawler crap that they tried to sell as a BSG toy. I never had a viper or what I really wanted a raider. Best figures or the era? Black Hole, by a long shot. But their thumbs were so brittle. Shame I came home from school one day as a young teen to find my whole collection given away by my mother because I was too old for toys! I think I forgave her a year ago. At 46 yo.
The Missing toy is a scale to action figure Lion Voltron
You say to email for link but didn't provide email address.
Email is in the credits of all our videos, but if you're looking for the contact link, it is in the description of the Cylon Raider video.
Has anyone made any from the latest BSG series ???
That ship is fantastic! I'd love one, but I don't see your gmail address.
Always listed in the video. retroblasting@gmail.com
One of my toy collecting dreams is for you to branch out a little. Specifically the I Am Elemental toyline and the massive expanse that has become Vituvian Hacks. Both lines have more soul and creativity than anything on shelves from the industry heads.
Despite their newness, I think they're right up your alley in terms of keeping the spirit of toy collecting alive and well.
Don’t ever apologize for passion mate.
I have waited for anything from original BSG for a while, so thank you for this Michael!
How can we get this Viper? Will there be a Cylon raider as well?
If only the Cylon figure could sit down so we could get a to-scale Raider.
He's doing that right now
You had me at functioning missile launcher. Truly amazing.
The missing toy is a transforming scale size verity has from Robotech isn’t it? I have always wanted that too
I agree, always wanted a fully transformable Veritech Figther. Guess will have to start mapping that out in Blender :)
*faints*
Wrong: it’s a fully transformable M.A.S.K Shark. But I know it’s in the works 👍 By a fan of course! 😁

That missile appears to be un-swallowable too. That one ups Mattel.
So when are we getting the 2 part Battlestar Galactica review now?
"Unswallowable."
Challenge accepted.
Ha ha ha ha! But in all seriousness, I see what you mean. Un-swallow-able enough to hopefully sell in the current litigious retail environment!
Just about THE coolest fanmade (should have been MATTEL made) toy ever! Fan......tastic. I WANT ONE....OR TWO...... or a squadron. Yep.......a squadron.
Robert Pearson Yes. 👍🏻
I'm a kid but I love doctor who, thunderbird, star trek, Blake's 7 and captain Scarlett!!
I went to Toys R Us as a kid to get a Viper and a Raider. They had one Raider left and as I waited on line to buy it I realized the box had been opened and the mini figure was gone.Regrettably put it back and never saw another. The one that got away.
I can never understand how companies when they are making toys make so many ignorant mistakes by taking adults forgranted. So many just plain idiotic blunders in toy lines that it takes fans to actually fix thier mistakes for them. My hats off to the creators of this toy, I think it's great for the hobby and collectors across the globe! Fans are just plain smarter than most toy companies. They're more attuned to what collectors want. The best toys and action figures were made in the 70s and mostly the 80s. The only way to get good toys for the most part are from fan creators , period. Big toy companies are way out of touch with fans, kids and adults. All it would take is one fan creator to show the big companies how to do it. Hasbro is a joke right now. The action figures on the market today are ridiculously poor and ill contrived. I enjoy what Robert is doing. I'm excited for more of this!
Vintage is the way. The big guys don’t want you to buy their stuff. It’s too hard to get. I’m not signing up for BS stuff like haslab etc.
Plus I can live without the stuff they are selling.
The fans are doing the best work, because they care for all the right reasons.
I loved seeing this, there is so much that can be done, so much potential and possibilities to explore.
This is so awesome, and cannot believe Mattel drooped the ball so badly, when ever Mego recognized what they missed out on. Great to see this, and hope to find it someday for my Adama figure. Now if we could only get a Battlestar Galactica ship itself, as they advertised but never made it.
How did you order it? I want one too!
Email retroblasting@gmail.com for link
@@retroblasting i want one. How can i get it. Please give me his information. $?
If he's selling them I would love his information
Thats so badass that you got that. I cant believe how visually satisfied I was at seeing Starbuck with his vehicle next to Luke Skywalker and Buck Rogers. Its like the Starbuck figure looked happier. Haha
This is why Copyright should never have been extended for so long! Nobody should have private ownership of culture for so long. Why should a company own culture for 95 years? Why should individuals own culture that we all enjoy for 70 years after death?
See a Corporation DOESN'T give a shit about history or culture and would destroy their own history to make a buck, as you pointed out Michael they don't care about preservation at all.
The fans make what Corporations will not because they don't make maximum profits. Unauthorized culture FTW! Just look at the Hong Kong transformer toys
Hell some pieces of media only exist now because of piracy, see Nosferatu
Edit: it's also really nice to see Michael enthused after so many videos of him dealing with nonsense people
One clue... Disney.
Loved every second of Michael's enthusiasm in this video. I grinned from ear to ear the entire 20 minutes.
Matel jus doesn't get it. I work 'very near' one of their distribution centers, which a couple of years ago, had, an outlet store for their products. A store that was 'open' 1-2 days a week (longer seasonaly) and onoy required a single person to operate. dispite that, it was a 'go to' place for many people looking to add to their collections (some even making hours long trips to get there). yet dispite that, it was shut down, as the marketing dept saw a 'bargan outlet' for older stock as 'unnesssasary'. Stock that tends to be at a premium price in stores (assuming you can even find it).
As for 'toys are for kids'; I sometimes look at 'sale merchandice' in Wal-mart while doing other shoping. Given the cost of a single 'standard' Playset item (up to $100 in some cases), I highly doubt any 'kid' is playing with such. In fact at a recent 'relax-a-con', at one point a 'screem' was heard. which was (obvuiously)inquired abiout and prompted the person on stage to say "relax folks, that was just from the sight of someone 'riping open' a toy.' A joke sure, but one that was beliveable and taken seriously.
That ship is BADASS ! i cant believe how tight that thing is.Extra creds for the sweet vintage ships. Your right ,corporations aren't artists ,or collectors, why let them control the scene.Power to new blood ,and less greed.I see hella figs lately ,& say ," finally ,someone made this fig !"
I still hope a fan will one day combine the Palitoy Death Star concept with the Kenner Death Star into a ludicrously large, open-able, giant globe of a Death Star, set on a spinning axis so you could turn each section of the DS, etc. And with a vintage '78-style box you couldn't even fit in your back seat - as the ultimate Kenner SW playset they didn't go for at the time. One can dream. ;-)
If 3D printer-ownership becomes ubiquitous, it could revolutionise the toy industry. Consumers could purchase the designs online and print them at home. No tooling, shipping or warehousing; no restrictions on what toys to make; no exploitation of workers; no loss for failed movies or trend changes; an ever-expanding catalogue.
THERE ARE THOSE OF US WHO BELIEVE! JUST AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME.... THNKS ROBERT😲😲😲😀😀😀♥️♥️♥️
FULLY FUNCTIONAL!!!
Great review, great product and points all around.
Could we get a link to the guy selling these?

"There’s not a ding or a scratch on it. It’s got the same tail number as the one she flew out on. But I’ve been fixing up that old bird since day one, and this thing looks like it’s been rolled off the showroom floor."
