Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) is the main square in Kiev city centre and is the city's equivalent of Times Square in New York or Piccadilly Circus in London.
It is situated on Khreschatyk Street.
Features here include:
Monument of Independence -- pillar erected in 2001 to celebrate 10 years of independence (1:46)
Globus -- large underground shopping centre (1:10, 3:15)
Central Post Office
Statue of Cossack Mamay -- a Ukrainian folk hero

Hotel Ukraine
Kiev Conservatory -- state academy of music (2:40)
Independence Square is also frequently used for concerts and public celebrations. It was also the main focal point of the 2004 Orange Revolution.
