Organ Improvisation St. Sulpice, Paris By Daniel Roth at Beginning of Mass

- Fantastic improvisation performed by the great Daniel Roth at St. Sulpice this morning, June 26th at the beginning of Mass. I trimmed this recording to begin at 2 minutes and 20 seconds into his performance. From here begins an incredible crescendo. The organ begins to become thunderous near 2minutes 25 seconds of this clip. He was obviously inspired by the first piece he played BEFORE Mass started - i.e., The Bach Prelude and Fugue in C minor, which I will upload separately. You can feel, in Roth's improvisation, both Bach as well as Marcel Dupre (The great organist at St. Sulpice between 1937 and 1971). Brought me to tears hearing this instrument live for the first time in my life today. I hope you enjoy and appreciate this masterpiece too.

Twice I was at the console of this great instrument. Once whit Daniel Roth, the other time with Sophie-Vernonique Cauchefer-Choplin. You can walk on the stairs of Widor and Dupre! Its amazing!

I've heard it twice in my life. Overwhelming both times. You can literally feel it breathe.
Excellent description. It feels like it's a living, breathing organism. Even a solo stop can be heard as if it was right next to your ear. It is an overwhelming experience, especially when full organ is on - big 32' contra bombardes, chamades, etc - like in this improvisation.
try grand orgue in St. Ouen, Rouen :) also Cavaillé-Coll, 4 manuals only, it's slightly smaller organ, but its 32' contre-bombardes are worth hearing as well :)

Karl Rovey - it has, at least Trompette Harmonique should be, if french wiki is correct. Of course, Notre-Dame and others have more of them, and they're quite visible as well
geuros En Chamade refers to horizontal reeds. It doesn't include a hooded trumpet (which is available on the San Sulpice organ). Also, none of the En Chamade ranks at Notre Dame were installed by Cavaille Coll. They were installed well after his death. If I remember correctly, Cavaille Coll only included an en chamade on one or two organs.
