  • In this episode of Teaching Guidelines, Curriculum Director Tanya Charlton explains best practices for teaching Memoria Press's Primary and Grammar School Literature Curriculum. Tanya, having written a handful of the literature guides herself, provides an expert view on how to properly teach Primary and Grammar School Literature to your students.
Our Upper-School literature study guides train students to read actively, but have been expanded and developed to lead students through a four-stage Trivium-based continuum to the acquisition and expression of the Central One Idea of a story or poem. The students are guided to read and think through the grammar, logic, and rhetoric stages toward the essence of a story: the central proposition that gives the story its ultimate meaning and expression.

I really love and enjoy teaching with Memoria Press in my homeschool! I have a 6th grade daughter and we are using the 5th grade full curriculum with a different level of Latin and Math U See instead of the Rod and Staff. It's been fantastic! She really enjoys Latin, the review of key concepts in the guides and in the recitation has really boosted her confidence because she likes to know things and have some basic facts at her fingertips that she knows and understands. I am really so happy we switched from a heavy literature based program to Memoria Press. It has a more focused approach to learning that is also high interest.
