You're crushing it with these vids. I'm really liking the technical aspects of which muscles are activating based on the different variations. Its really good content compared to all those other content creators who just do the same thing as everyone else.
Man, ive been lifting 30+ years and you have changed my techniques more so than anyone else by a wide margin with these vids. This stuff is pure gold! Thanks for what you do bro!
Dude, I've bought the videos and love them. I coach highschool 6 man football and teach a strength and conditioning class. I use your suggestions and we only have wooden benches for equipment. I started the clas with 10 kids and it grew to 25. They love the workouts. Now I'm trying to buy bands and dumbells. Your programs are helping me be a better coach and trainer for kids 8th grade and up. THANK YOU!!!
Wife and I finished doing our second time through the PPL program with absolutely AMAZING results. First time: Did it exactly as programmed, second time we slightly increased weight and attempted to progressively overload more than the first time. Going to buy the new science based program today and i cant freaking wait!!! Your programs and wisdom have completely changed my life.
I was just about to look at another video of this same muscle region, was so pleased to see you had just released this! I'm 30 and have just started working out, your videos are a life saver man.
I'm waiting for the next training program from you that will be based on these researches that you make lately. Will definitely be a killer. I'm doing Gym program 2.0 from you second time with taking extra superset for each day and it's killing me in a good way. I found myself on the floor many times since I bought the program and it made me push even beyond. Thank you
what i genuinely enjoy with the test videos is that some movement that you completely passed on shows you it's effectiveness and the fact that you are enthusiastically correcting your previous opinions and habits and integrating new information asap.
Awesome video ! Last year I decided to drop flat bench completely as I had the idea that it developed my front delts more than my chest. Chucked in decline barbell press (besides incline dumbbell and chest press) instead and seeing way more progress !
That was a fantastic video! This series you have come up with is outstanding. I am a very visual person, so the large screen with images and the video structure of the video explaining your testing was very engaging and informative. As a viewer, this video and series is effectively tying everyones new interest in science based training which has significantly been promoted and influenced from tik tok to other platforms and channels in the last couple of years, with practical bodybuilding thought, application and trial and error. As a selfish request, I would like a request a specific comprehensive video for rear delts testing the most common movements/and machines with some unique exercises i.e Arnold lying down rear felt raise, cable 45 degree rear belt fly popularised by JPG on tik tok etc., also video forearms, calves and neck. I haven't rewatched and made notes on any video on any platform since the old JRE podcast days. Excellent work. Looking forward to each body part being covered in the series. Thank you.
Ryan, I've noticed your last two videos have less views than the first two. May I suggest making thumbnails with the device in view (a freakish pump) and the arrow that says "science". Hope you get more views, these videos are something else.
Mate, idk if you hear this enough, but wow. you are a damn genius at what you do. Truly knowledgeable and to the point. on behalf of all gym-goers... thank you. For anyone wanting to make serious progress in the gym, it doesn't get better than this.
I am so glad you have this device. You alone are tweaking my work out routine with your videos. Thank you for your dedication and work. Would like to see calfs and forearms exercises done to see what are the best. 💪thanks again for the vid. 🙏
This is information is hyper valuable. Thanks so much for releasing this information for free. Even at a sample size of one, it makes logical sense that it would extrapolate to most males, even if slight individual changes would be required. Fantastic work.
I'm loving this new device videos. I'd REALLY like to see you, another trained athlete and a regular joe do the same exercises and see if the activation results change significantly between people.
I agree with Bulleit. U are crushing it. By this time next year my lower pecs will be so big either I won’t be able to roll over in bed or the shear weight will force me to sleep on my stomach. Which I hate doing.
Thanks for the video Amazing work as always. I do think it missed something important though. The involvement of the shoulders. In any benchpress we pull the shoulders back, but just by checking the muscle contraction you can see that pushing the shoulder down and forward it massively increases the contraction of the chest. I can harly activate my lower chest without pushing them forward but it becomes trivial once I do. I wonder how that would affect the EMG readings. This obviously wouldn't apply to any benchpress variation but I think you should really check out multiple variations of flys at some point. Given how amazing this series is I suspect you will make a ton of videos in the future so I hope you will get around to it at some point.
I really love this information, but one suggestion I would give is to label the muscle area when you show the excitation comparison chart. That way it’s clear what is getting more excitation! 👍
Ryan you're a riot, lol I enjoy the comedy.... I also appreciate the information; I'm a newbee and I don't want to waste time doing exercises that don't produce gains. I've learned that experience teaches a hard lesson, lessons better learned from others experiences rather than my own. Thanks
If you do dips on a Y-bar, face away from the attachment, so that your hands are slightly supinated. There's a massive increase in chest activation relative to the other muscles (deltoids, lats, rhomboids, triceps, biceps) compared to having your hands slightly pronated. This supine-Y-bar combination has also been shown in EMG studies to activate the upper pec more than the same relative load at a 30-60° incline press.
thank you for this video. I watched A LOT of your videos multiple times, but stopped for a good while the transformation of your content - in production value, presentation, but really information- is incredible, congratulations. I would like to also suggest doing either ring pushups or "forward lean" pushups, where your hands are at the height of your abdomen/sides. Easy to think they should work like calisthenics pseudo-planche lean pushups, but since you're not in that crazy protraction your chest does everything and delts not much (at least for me)
The forearms are so complex and I'd like to get the very most hypertrophy from each muscle in the forearms, I'd love to see you test the ECM on the forearms.
Nice work. Really need to make a series of videos using this technique and device for ALL the muscles of the body. If you name them all similarly so they can be searched then people can use it as an encyclopedia for best hypertrophy exercises.
This shit is so friggin dope. You will revolutionize the industry bro. The Jug of piss made me appreciate it more to be honest. Your hard work and dedication will not go unnoticed. Good job.
So right on dips...they feel different everytime i do them. I think it has to do with other parts of the kinetic chain and in what state of freshness they are in. I can't do a consistent dip path for the life of me.
Try out Bulgarian Ring Dips, they mimic the barbell dips but add the stabilization factor. Great for hypertrophy and targeting both the inner and outer regions of the lower pecs.
Thanks for the videos man. There is a question in my head tho, its the "Bench Press vs Dumbbell Press". most people say that the dumbbell press activates more chest but i got curious after these videos. can you test that please if you do an another chest video?
Dumbells use more chest because they have to work harder to stabilize the weight. Jeremy already covered this in his video. ua-cam.com/video/wh-KKiOXY34/v-deo.html
I just discovered your channel yesterday (Yes, I'm a "little" slow...)! I've been a gym bunny for a few decades and am now learning better technique! I had never heard of nor seen a BB dip! Informative and hilarious - the best way to learn. 🙃
Lower utter hahahahahahahahahaha. You have no idea the effect you have on people. I get little bouts of anxiety, I been through a lot of stuff. When I watch your videos, the humor uplifts me. It's so off the cuff! It works two-fold for me. It reminds me not to take things so serious, just do the work correctly. I have upgraded my workouts 7.0 and I'm remembering your punch lines for those precious gym moments. God bless you man and much appreciation.!
Love these emg videos. I’ve been doing the cable and straight bar dips for years just because I know how our anatomy works and it’s carved my lower chest. Think of male gymnasts. They do ring muscle ups everyday and their chests are always carved.
Deadlifts fire up the entire back with an isometric contraction. Jeremy Ethier already covered this in his video. ua-cam.com/video/VAvVpAABrTs/v-deo.html
More gold. I have a muscle imbalance this will help fix! Right side of my outer chest is significantly more developed than the left side. I think the muscle on the left is jus shaped differently though. Will try to focus more with tips from this vid🙏🙏🙏🔥
I really look forward to your videos and get the most out of your programs! One question have you tried a reverse grip on the decline press to see if there was a difference in activation?
Love the videos and science. Great info. In the future can you do a summary at the end of which exercises are most effective to least effective. In this video a gathered the decline chest press with hands a little outside shoulders and the dip leaning forward where the best. Is that pretty accurate?
How about back but do landmine t-bar row vs machine vs standing row, kick backs, whatever else you can throw in. These emg sensor results are really me plan out what I can do anywhere from gym, to my dad home gym, to the playground equipment at the park (dipstation out of handrails).
Ryan, I need to know this -when using the jug- did you do piss standing and aiming and possibly making a mess, or did you go down and do a half squat, half-shaft-in-jug with the head touching the warm piss (but, it's a lot more cleaner)? Please, it's 3:25 AM over here and I still can't sleep because I have to know!
