    Sir, I have 4 quick questions:
    1. What gauge wire did you use for ground?
    2. How far from the house did you install the rod?
    3. How far is your rod from your powder cabinet.
    4. Where did you connect the ground wire at your cabinet?

    • @ManCrafting
      @ManCrafting  5 років тому

      Mike Carmody 1 I used green number 6. 2. It was about 2 feet. Just outside the drip line so the soil would get moisture. That creates a better ground. 3. I made a grounding bar and used it as a termination for the earth ground. Mostly because it was a little short. It could attach directly to the part if you wanted.

    If I may add.... your earth ground, or copper grounding rods should be found at your local lowes or home depot. You want the full 8ft minus mabe an inch into the ground for best grounding abilities. You still need the last inch or so to attach your hardware for your wire. As he said, it is possible to get shocked, but only if you energize the system, and gr ouch the cup. This system is not a high amperage system. Wich is actually what you care about. Amps kill.... not volts. The same principle applies to tazers though these systems dont have that many volts either. It might be somewhat painful, but shouldn't hurt you either way. To avoid all this anyway, make sure your foot switch or trigger button is not engaged when you touch the cup/stand. The earth ground is so important becouse the more layers your electricity (voltage) has to travel through, the tougher it is to get your paint to look nice and smooth. I recently had some problems myself and ran into some separate issues. Some systems are single voltage, dual voltage and range.... I cannot adjust my voltage on my machine so I'm stuck with what I have until I upgrade

      I don't think so. The ground aka earth will dissipate the charge. I'm not sure that the building would have the same capacity.

    Hi! Where do you find the green/blue wires that you have? I'm trying to make sure I have all the correct parts.
    As far as I see in this video you have a grounding rod, the wire clamped to it, and then from that you have the green wire that goes to the part. Is this all that we need? Thank you.

    Hi there,
    I have the dual voltage gun and earth installed. How do you apply the second coat? Do you use the 25 or 15kv for the setting and also when do apply the coat? Can the part be room temp or at a certain temp to apply the second coat?
    Thank you

      Ke Fe it’s not ideal, but I’d try it first and if it’s not sufficient you can always add the grounding rod. Generally using the house ground isn’t enough.

    Does installing the earth ground keep you from getting shocked? I'm terrified to get shocked while powder coating. 😬

    • @ManCrafting
      @ManCrafting  6 років тому

      Angela TwoSassy no, but it’s not an electric shock like from an outlet, it’s a static charge like walking around shuffling your feet in the winter. It’s shocking but not injurious.

    Is there an issue with lighting striking the rod? Just had a tree blow up from a strike recently and now worried that if i do do this itll draw more strikes. Thank you

    • @ManCrafting
      @ManCrafting  5 років тому

      Junk Email I have never heard of lightning directly hitting the rod. Earth grounding systems help carry unexpected electrical charges from other sources away safely. For example, lightning strikes can energize components in houses. The earth grounding system can sometimes safely dissipate electricity from lightning. However, large lightning strikes will not be dissipated by a house grounding system.

    I have one in the ground next to my electric box on the other end of the house and it is connected to my main water pipe in the basement with what looks to me a solid 1/8 in copper wire. Can just tap into it and be ok? Also what size of wire (Green) going to your booth?

    I currently own the Harbor Freight powder coating gun system. This particular gun does not have dual voltage like the Eastwood system does. I want to do two toned cups but have been having trouble with the powder not adhering on the second coat . Has anyone had success applying two coats on a tumbler with the HF system after installing the Earth ground?

  • @TheForeverDamned

    How well did this end up working for you? Specifically for dual coat applications? I have the Eastwood single voltage gun and do a little powder coating on the side for personal projects. I've noticed it's almost impossible to apply a second layer without heating the part up first. This makes it annoying for dual coats such as the candy red that I really like, which has a base coat of chrome. I installed an 8 ft earth grounding copper clad rod today but I've not tested it out. Unfortunately, I was only able to get the rod to go around 6.5 ft before I ran into some impenetrable rock and actually bent my rod trying to get it to bust through, but after researching about grounding rods for the past month, I still feel like it will be significantly better than the alligator clip ground supplied. I'll hopefully be testing it out sometime within the week.

    Hello, there are two wires connected to the ground wire, one with a Blue sleeve terminal and the other with a Yellow sleeve. I noticed that the blue one goes directly to the base you use to place the cups, but what about the yellow one, where do you connect that one?

    • @ManCrafting

      The other was coming from a second powder coating system on top of the booth.

    • @cbrivera1

      Chad absolutely love all your work. He asked the exact question I was wondering...so is that "blue sleeve terminal" used so that you don't have to get so much copper wire? And how do you attach it?

    • @ManCrafting
      @ManCrafting  7 років тому

      cbrivera1 at 1:23 I have made a Jerry rigged grounding bar. The reason is, I have more than one PC system. So rather than running all the systems to the stand I can run them to the grounding bar. The yellow goes to the stand and the blue wire goes to the powder coating stand. It just so happens one of my systems came with that setup.

    An 10 feets hollow copper tube is about 15$.
