    How the hell does he make an Elvis Presley song his own and take it an completely different direction and make it work effortlessly! Absolute genius! Your bang on by the way, studying him is a lifetimes work, I've been a fan for almost 38 years, still watching videos like this I've never seen before, magic!

    I love the moments where you can tell he’s just letting go and completely having fun. The laughs he gives at the beginning might honestly be my favorite part of this. You can feel the joy pouring out. And god Jon Blackwell was a monster on the drums. I always felt like he should be in the conversation for greatest drummer(s) and he never gets mentioned. I’d take him over almost anyone if I was putting together a band. The band here is basically the same lineup he had for most of the 00s and they were so dialed in at this point that they could stop on a dime and follow him in any direction and be at his level. Fantastic.

    This is far and away the best lineup of musicians he ever played with. I will also go so far as to say that these two shows may be the finest performances of his career. The musicianship is off the charts, he is so joyous and loose and his guitar playing is locked in like never before.

    • @thesolitaryadventurer
      @thesolitaryadventurer 2 роки тому +1

      It's hard to argue with that when we have these performances to look at.
      I personally think his best BAND was NPG early-90s of Sonny T, Michael Bland, Tommy Barbarella. A phenomenally talented group of guys but they played like a group of friends too.
      For skill, I do think you're right that this lineup is the most talented. Just insane levels in every area.

    Simply the GOAT!!! His ability of being in conmmand & in control is second to none, in additon to fill in clear funky constant riff, controls a perfect homogeneous musical fabric that can be stopped and instrument selected at his command. what he does with a real band is what DJs of todays do with machines but not even at the smallest fraction of greatness that Prince has had on his performances. Hes Probably the greatest band leader of all time period!!! How many guitarist would dare to claim that???

    Man, do I love that one-two punch of "Stratus/All Shook Up"! Thank you so much for getting to this request. Who else would genetically bind a jazz fusion song by drummer Billy Cobham with an Elvis cover? (I'll answer: NOBODY, that's who.) To see Blackwell pay homage to Cobham during the drum solo is also a cool moment. The dynamics of the going from the precision 1st solo to the emotionally-charged last solo, plus the expert crowd control and the band stopping "on-the-one" right on a dime is just too much. Awesome performance. 🔥

    He was/is music. He heard it in his head 24/7. He dreamed songs, waking up to go and record. Listen to Susan Rogers, who for nearly 5 years, while at his most prolific due to Purple Rain, saw first hand how music was pouring out of him. It was great music also.

    I think if you’re looking to get a better idea of what Prince was musically and how good he actually was, you should watch this interview with Susan Rogers (if you haven’t already). You’ll gain a better understanding of what took place behind the scenes, in the studio and on tour-how high his musical output was. So much so that he had to make up other bands to distribute music through because Warner Bros was worried about over saturation. And I don’t even think she touches on the jazz stuff in this interview, like Madhouse with its made up musicians and whatnot. He was no basic pop star, that’s for sure.

    Not one to comment much on sites but I wanted to say that you have some of the best Prince musical reaction videos by far. Your sincerity and appreciation for the music and level of talent really come through your videos. I am and remain a Prince fam since I was a kid. My first concert was 40 years ago and I went to just about every show he put on in town including his last two in 2016. I still have ticket stubs for both in 1982 and 2016 plus many in between. IMO, he was and remains the most complete musical artist at every level ever. To see him live in person was like seeing no other and I've seen many artist from all different kinds of music. I love really good live music and performers!! My point is, I've lived in this Prince "rabbit hole" most of my entire life so I might know a little something. So I just want to acknowledge your great work. Great reaction, love all of Montreux 2009. Please keep it up.

    This is definitely a great band. I once saw him with this band at paisley Park. It was 2am, and the only people there watching him was me and my wife, along with about 16 drunk high school kids from Chanhassen. I'm guessing it was the only place open for these drunk kids to go. Lol....I could tell the kids weren't even prince fans, it was just a local place that provided a place for gathering at that time at night. Easily one of the weirdest times ive had there. To this day my wife and I talk about it. But like normal, he could have cared less who was in the audience, he just wanted to jam. But it was the first time I had seen this particular band. I'm guessing he just wanted to play with his new band as much as possible. Prince use to turn a purple light on in front of paisley if he was gonna play that night. Sometimes he wouldn't turn it on until midnight, so no one would see it unless you drove there or you knew someone who worked there like me. But anyway, that was the first time I saw this formation of this band.

    🔥 '" Stratus " 🔥 is the perfect name 4 this song 🎶🎼🎵🎸🥁🎹💜😎💯 cuz it definitely takes a good grip of u & take u on nice flight thru the Stratosphere & drops u off out there 4 a sec so 1 can get a good look 👁👁 at Mother Earth 🌎 & how beautiful & majestic Mother Earth 🌎 truly is without all the bullshit 💩 unessessary negativity, stress, drama & chaos that people tend 2 have & bring with themselves & whatever issues & problems that people pack in 2 there luggage 🤣😂😅💯😎🔥

    Oh Jesus. I've been a big fan of Billy Cobham AND Prince, and had no idea the Purple One covered this classic track from Billy's classic Spectrum album. Wow!
    And guess what, Prince is a better guitarist than Tommy Bolin. Which is to say, Prince is an AMAZING guitarist.

    Prince was also very influenced by Carlos Santanas playing.

      The first time I saw Blackwell on drums was with his first big gig playing with the funk band Cameo in 96.

      Cameo are interesting to me. When Word Up came out in 1986 I absolutely loved that song... about a year ago I did a bit of research to see more on their history, I'm going to brush up on it... :)
