Released on Disney+, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the animated reboot of the live action family movie of the same name; as well as based on the original 2007 book. Being one of the shortest Disney Animated Features in the studio’s history, it’s still a fun and endearing story about something that we can all relate to: Entering Middle School. And being being centered around such an intense time in any kid’s life.. It’s a perfect story to explore morality in the context of childhood.

I think the Heffleys were just a lot nicer in this movie than in the books, which I personally think is a great thing.
I’m ESPECIALLY glad they made Manny a lot nicer here. Him giving his candy to Greg is LITERALLY the cutest thing I’ve seen in a long time (Even though someone speculated that he only gave the candy to Greg because he couldn’t carry it himself).
I feel like he’s more of a mischievous little kid in this movie than a complete jerk. And even though he told Susan about Greg going to Snake Road, in his defense, she SPECIFICALLY told Greg not to go there, and Greg was the one who disobeyed her.
I really hope the Heffley family will CONTINUE to be like this in future films.

@@danielfalardeau9618Jeff Kinney said he wants to adapt ALL the books into movies for Disney+. I’m hoping that the Heffley family will continue to be nicer than in the books in future films. And when it comes time to adapt Cabin Fever, I hope it’ll portray Manny in a better way than how he is in the book. Personally, I think Manny is adorable. But EVERYONE else seems to hate him, and I feel kind of guilty for finding him cute.
The only moment I hated with manny in this movie was when he throws the meatball and says “im ownwy thwee.” Other than that he was pretty nice in this one.
I just had a eureka moment when the rest of the Heffleys, especially Manny, were portrayed as far nicer than they were in the books. In fact, it kind of writes off almost ALL major differences between the books and the reboot. It all hinges on one key detail.
The books are written from Greg’s perspective.
It would make complete sense for Greg to have embellished, glossed over, omitted, or flat out lied about certain events to make himself look better. Keep in mind, Greg’s journal isn’t just a normal journal, he wrote it with the intention that someone else would read it, presumably when he became rich and famous. A lot of Greg’s more horrible actions were left in because he viewed those actions as justified in his pursuit for popularity. However, he purposely blew others’ less admirable traits way out of proportion to make his own life seem more tragic, such as Frank’s neuroticism, Susan’s overbearing nature, and of course, Manny went from at worst a mischievous little kid to fun-sized Satan. Of course, there were folks who needed no embellishment, such as Fregley or the teenagers, but the books are not simple journals, but rather tools made by Greg to make himself look as good as possible.
i don't think this is 100% true as one of the points of the movie was showing that heffely's perceptions of the world around him are influenced by his thoughts. Like how everyone was made to look as if they thought greg was cool after getting his comic in until he realized his comic had been changed
I see that thrown around a lot when people try to defend some of Rodrick's worse moments,which is why books like Rowley's need to exist but with other characters. Though I'm not sure who would be the most neutral. I think it's Rowley who'd probably be looking at situations in the most neutral light.
Wouldn't we all do something similar if we were in Greg's place and we wanted popularity or sympathy?
He wasn’t like that in the first three live action movies. He was a good friend to Rowely (for the most part) and wanted him to be well liked in school. He also tried to warm up to Rodrick in Rodrick Rules. Greg would have definitely landed in the good section if this was the first three live action movies.
When I saw little Manny give his Big Brother that big candy bar, that was the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life.

In the books he is pure evil, he has been spoiled to think no mattwer how bad the action is, he still gets rewarded, even when he almost killed his family in the 6th book, he still got a great ton of gifts for Christmas. His parents are neutral, they spoil Manny to much and are neglectful to Rodrick in the books, Susan is ok, but makes it too obvious that Manny is her favorite. She has a habit of lying to Greg such as when she tried to make Greg feel important by lying about a secret mission.

I think Greg is okay in the live action movies (or at least he slowly got better throughout the movies) but yeah he’s a jerk in the books no doubt.
I think Rowley should be in that category for the animated movie, Rowley's good in the books (including Rowley's journal) and first 3 movies, but not in the animated one. Rowley in the animated one stole Greg's comic, but he comes up with it originally, Rowley abandons Greg in the animated one and has one of his cronies punch Greg, but original Rowley stops being his friend because of him getting Rowley kicked out of the safety patrol, and using him for personal gain. That would be true for the original version, but the animated movie one is an insult to his character. I do think book Greg would be evil for books, morally grey for first 3 movies (because he develops more in the first 3), and good in the animated one.

I was the only one who noticed that the relationship of Greg and Patty in the series with live actors is very similar, very much reminiscent of the toxic and abusive relationship of Asuka and Shinji from the anime "Evangelion". Patty is very similar to Asuka not only in appearance, but also in character,personality and temperament, they are both vile,mean,indifferent characters who physically, up to physical assault and morally (psychologically) tormented Greg and Shinji.Two antagonists are narcissists,egoists,selfish,rude
with an inflated self-esteem and a high opinion of themselves, with a problem of anger.
I haven't seen this one and I haven't seen the live action ones in a long time but I like how this one actually looks like the book characters just with color.

I personally would've put Roderick a lot than many of the other characters on this list. Although, Greg certainly does a whole lot of immoral things in the movie, you have to remember that a lot of Greg's actions were influenced by Roderick's advice. Especially at the beginning of the movie.

I don’t think Rowley should’ve been on the good list, he was acting nice, but inside he was a jerk in the 2021 movie.
1. He did steal Greg’s original comic strip which made him peak of attention.
2. He got mad at Greg only for complaining, but he technically ruined Greg’s reputation in middle school.

Personally I found this movie mediocre. Still better than the Long Haul though! Also Book wise, Manny, Susan, & Frank would be more on the evil side.
Manly Manny,he put his Family on moral danger in Cabin Fever and the reason was "because he didn't know how to tie his shoes",even knowing how to make his room being the only one with energy and left the rest of the rooms Left without energy
One tiny little thing we'd like to sya about this.
In one or two of the books where Rowley becomes popular, he does let the fame go to his head, and even then it's not like he becomes completely self absorbed. Besides, this is about the movie, not the books. Anyways, this is a great video!

I think he should've put Chirag on this list, he wasn't the most frequent character in the movie, but seeing is how he was okay with tossing Rowley aside when all he did was just eat a slice of cheese, it's probably best to put him above Greg just for that, seeing is how he's never done any heroic deeds, but he's on the low grey area because of the one mean thing he did.
They also forgot about the coach. I think he should’ve been in the good tier because he saved Greg and Rowley from the teenagers

I gotta be honest, I think they were overreacting a bit with Greg Heffley. I mean, he's a lot nicer to Rowley compared to the book, and even though he is quite rude to Rowley, it was mostly Rodrick that influenced that.
You do realize that in this movie, Rowley literally steals Zoo Wee Mama from Greg, and doesn't give him any credit in the slightest. What if Greg wanted to use the comic later on, but he couldn't because Rowley decided to steal it from him.
In my opinion I would put Rowley in the 2nd medal of good and Rodrick in number 1. Rodrick Actually gave Greg good advice. Anything he mentioned actually helped greg get through middle school. In fact. Rowley actually did nothing to help Greg if he got bullied. He even said to Greg “I can’t help it if I’m just naturally funny” When Greg told him that he stole his comic idea. So he did technically make Greg’s first year of middle school pretty bad. So Rodrick was right about Rowley. (REMEBER THIS IS MY OPINION)
Rowley most definitely takes the most good in Diary of a Wimpy Kid. There's no doubt that Greg Heffley is idiotic, and I'm quite shocked Rodrick is higher than him which I might agree.👍📕

Secondly yeah, I’d say Rodrick is a better person than Greg in this animated movie and probably the books too but in the live action movies I’d say Greg is a better person. Besides this movie, I don’t think Greg is THAT bad in the other movies. He’s definitely at his best there.

I think Greg should be in mid grey area and fregley be in high and rodrick be in low. Greg actually did defend rowley when rodrick call him a baby. And rodrick nearly ran over rowley at the beginning. Everything else is good.
I can't wait for animated Roderick Rules! (I think Greg should get bronze ribbon of nice though)
