Lance Cpl. John Holmason, USMC, Fallujah, 2005. IED explosion. Not only my golf partner but had to report his death and cover his memorial service for our local newspaper. This song played at his memorial and I had to leave the gymnasium to bawl my eyes out.
I also played this for my 22-year-old son's funeral who passed away 2-26-23. He would have been 23 the following May. This song is so fitting because our kids were way too young and some parents lose their children even younger. I was behind a vehicle with a decal a few months after my son's passing. This parent only had 2 weeks with their child. It's totally unfair and it makes me beyond angry. But I know I don't have to preach you know exactly what it feels like. No parent should ever have to outlive their child.
This song came out a month before my little brother died in a car crash at 15 with one of his best friends. This song was on repeat for about a year following. But after losing a couple of more friends and family in the years to follow I set this song aside and tried to be more celebratory about their lives. But many times a year i still think about them and wonder all of these things. So many things i accomplished and wanted him there, so many more things he would have accomplished better than me while i cheered him on. Love to all who feel this song like i do. Country Music (especially 90s Country) tells it like it is and if there’s any emotion that you’re dealing with, this genre will bottle those feelings up and make music that will hopefully help you. My favorite songs from Kenny Chesney are That’s Why I’m Here; The Tin Man; All I Need to Know; Grandpa Told Me So; You Win, I Win, We Lose; There Goes My Life; While He Still Knows Who I Am; Me and You; Who You’d Be Today; Don't Blink, A Chance; Fall in Love; and Every Other Weekend (duet with Reba McEntire).

If I remember right, this is something that happened in his life. A good friend died and this is his tribute to them!
