How to service your haldex / transfer box on your Volvo while it is still on the car . Most of the videos shows how to do it , when the haldex is removed , but today we going to do it on the car . This haldex is generation 3 , which is little bit different than the generation 4 . We going to change the haldex oil and haldex filter . It's good idea to change the oil pump too , but we going to leave it like that for now .

If anyone is interested, we did a filter and oil change on our xc70 volvo Gen 3 this weekend, YOU CAN DO IT ALL WITHOUT DROPPING THE PROPSHAFT OR EXHAUST. Cut down an allen key to take the filter cover off, put 12v across the pump connection to pump out the old fluid, black wire is negative, refill, pump a little to prime the pump, put new filter in, job done. takes a couple of hours tops. Nothing needs removing except the filter cover.
hey frank thanks for info as i was hoping to do service without removal of shaft and exhaust but i couldnt see how to get filter cover off with allen key as i only had a very small amount of room to turn the allen key i could loosen one but then couldnt get another turn in , any tips ?
@@bradlaw1502 cut you allen key down to 3 or 4mm, you then have clearance. it is very tight but it is doable and is much less hassle than dropping the propshaft!
Running the pump like that will discharge the oil through the orifice left by the old filter before you add the new I assume. ......Does it come out fast and does it make much of a mess ?? Any idea how much oil was left when the pump started sucking air ?
@@matsbacklin we filled with oil, span it a second, filled again, repeat till fresh oil came out. Basically a flush through then fill to level. Not much mess, just have a container underneath
@@frankfisher99 I will give it a go. I have a flexible drive attachment for a drill that holds a 4mm hex bit. Worth a try.
Very good tutorial,thanks !!
Very loud music mate. Please turn the volume down ;) I use headphones ...
It is like the ads on TV . They are much louder , to attrack your attention
I found a comment on another Volvo site that the bolt to the right of the pump and below the DEM is the drain. I have not checked this to see if it is true. 4:19 on your video.
Not a drain. At least not on mine, I pulled the bolt and it was bone dry.
It is not a drain, leave it in place.
It is same for 2006 Volvo v70 awd d5 ?
Hey I also have gen 3 haldex on my 07. Are you sure we're not supposed to remove 40ml after filling up ? My dealer said so, but then again they have been wrong before
Pretty sure that it is not required. Never had an issue
12:30 - 14:20 LOL.
Great video, thank you. I used this tutorial to change oil and filter in my 2007 Land Rover Freelander, it also uses haldex 3 gen. I was struggling to remove pump, it was very stuck. But I also checked with bare wires as you show in video and it's working correctly and quietly.
Great video! How many miles/kms were on the clock when the service was performed?
Finally the exact video I was looking for
Excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Really good video - thank you
Sure is a lot of trouble such a little amount of oil.
The more oil they design the unit with, the longer the service interval.
Small oil volumes work real hard
Масло можно слить полностью всё только если открутить муфту
Why not use an impact on a low setting on that nut?
Hey I got a 2007 volvo S60R and we confirmed that the AWD does not work front tires spinning amd the rears did not kick in does that mean I just need to replace the pump and all of what you guys did or do I need a whole new heldex
Check your angle gear for play in the pinion area. More likely that the angle gear fails. If you AG is fine, then I would pull the pump and check it. Your DEM could be a problem to as I have heard that the pump shorting out from lack of fluid changes can kill it. I would see if you can find someone with VIDA as that could help you immensely.
@@OnShouldersOfGiants i hope you might recognize my problem as well; if I just departed, like 1km or so, and drive about 60km/h i get a resonance from the back, feels like its holding back on the right rear wheel, and it happens like once or twice, but then it's gone. Could this be in the haldex, or could it be the angle gear as well ?
Great video. Thank you.
Completely awesome. Thank you.
What fluid do i use i dont know
Поржал!
If your only changing the filter do you need to remove the prop shaft flange?
doing this myself now, I think the point is to change the fluid. which it doesn't appear you will get much out without removing the flange and pump (lowest point of unit). removing the DEM didn't seem to be worth it, given the amount of fluid. but filter and pump needs to be removed to drain fluid. watch volvosweden's video on this, that one is a gen4, but would think you can do the same tear down and clean of the pump to prolong the life while it's out also..
Did you try it without removing the flange? If so, was it possible? How much fluid came out?
@@diggitydudeski after realising the faff it could be come whilst working directly in the middle underneath the car, I paid £160 for a local Volvo specialist to perform the service.
I changed all the other oils myself, but didn’t fancy this.
@@MrUkstew Great use of 'faff'. Nicely done.
How much fluid takes haldex?
12:25 how many nm?
150 nm he says this on the video. Well this is for the flange bolt.
