Eddie showed musicality and was having fun. He was showcasing his personality with nods to his culture. I thought it was unfair he was penalised so harshly by the judges on choreography. It was an enjoyable number. I’m looking forward to seeing his samba !
I thought this was undermarked tbh. He should’ve got more. The fact that they almost blamed him for the choreography is just over the top... but tbh at first I didn’t recognise this as a Cha Cha 😅
I found those scores too generous. Maybe Craig was a bit OK. The choreography could be bad for two reasons - "lazy choreographer/teacher" or a "wooden celeb". Karen is there to support him and not to sink him. In my notes I just wrote "Where is the dance? :(". Sorry, but for me there was hardly any cha cha and I would have given a 1. :(
I love watching these two. You can see they have so much fun dancing. Karen wanted him to have fun with this Cha Cha. They gave them a lord Spanish song for the Cha Cha and then complained when it was more cultural than it was “Latin competitions style. Pls, what sense does that make?
What Craig said was quite offensive to Latinos in my opinion, considering the root of all these dances. I love how Motsi corrected him whilst also giving more constructive criticism.
Well done Karen! This was quite different from what she has usually done and I really enjoyed it. I voted, I hope they take the constructive criticism and come back even better!
Karen looked mad at the judges comments. Craig should have given feedback for Eddie though instead of just criticising the choreography because Eddie has no control over that.
Karen Hauer is a champion mambo dancer it’s a shame she doesn’t get the opportunity to showcase the mambo more on the Strictly. I feel like there was a flavour of this here
If she were to do that, she'd be excoriated for showing off. Katya was unfairly criticized for showing off in her _Matrix_ paso doble with Seann, when what she was doing was drawing the attention away while he was being hooked up into the high-wire harness.
This is a classic case of the song influencing the dance, this song would have suited a more latin like samba or salsa , i agree with craig very little cha cha in this which is karens choreo but still think he has every thing & just a perfect pupil to teach, lookin forward to him goin far in this comp
I think they were too harsh on him. And I thought it was unfair that they almost blamed him for the choreography. I also felt that Karen was annoyed by the comments.
The choreography is not something the celebrity can control. Why didn’t someone tell Karen that she had got it wrong before the dance ever made it onto live T.V?
He is a great personality with potential, I expect he will get to at least one dance off, but hopefully this will motivate him on top of the advice given to him. Have a good day reader
4 I do feel bad for Eddie, the blame goes to Karen for the choreography. I had to mark this so low because of the lack of Cha Cha elements in this dance, his footwork in particular was way off! But, the performance itself was fun to watch!
...Well, the judges basically summed it up. 😬 Well, I'll just say his hips and body isolation is great and it would be interesting to see him do a Samba.
I might of got a bit too distracted by the hip bonanza Eddi brought to the floor, that i didnt really notice or care that there was next to no actual cha cha steps in this routine. 7 oops
Score - *5/10* What a disappointment! With such good rhythym and hip action I was expecting a traditional and strong Cha Cha going by the music, this was all over the place. It was very throwaway and lacked closure, his legs were bent, the locksteps and new yorker that were attempted were very bad, the cuban breaks pretty much turned into botafogas. It felt more like a Samba which im sure he will be great at because he has incredible energy and musicallity but as a Cha Cha it just was not there. This is such a shame because I had high hopes for Eddie and he's been pretty average so far 😔
_It's not entirely Eddie's fault though. It's also Karen's - she choreographed it. Eddie was just sticking to it. Also he said he's from Congo where they use hips a lot so he's still getting used to it. I thought the judges were too harsh on him tbh_
I find this couple so frustrating. He clearly has ability but he seems determined to do his own thing rather than master the technicalities of each dance. Karen looked unhappy as soon as they finished their dance and visually surprised that their scores were as high as they were. Karen's choreography also has a tendency to deviate from the expected so it is not a great combination of having two mavericks together. There are other less talented natural dancers on the show which I find myself warming to simply because they are at least trying to do the dance they are set.
I think the issue is that Karen is not connecting with her partner in the way that the other partnerships have taken off. So it feels flat and superficial somehow. It's Karen who needs to commit to her dancer, to the process, who needs to let go and then Eddi's talent will be able to shine through each dance. I think it was clear that the judges were actually criticising Karen more than Eddi. As one of the judges said, he has the greatest musicality but the chorography was all over the place. Disappointing
our scores: me: 7 diya: 7 kelsey: 7 owen: 7 28/40 a 3? WHAT. i almost spat out my water. motsi was oddly.. strange tonight. woke up on the wrong side of the bed. i knew exactly what i was watching and recognised plenty of cha cha content. his legs need to be straightened and his weight needs to be more forward as shirley said but his hips and smile really saved the day.
It’s not the first time Karen let down her celebrity with the choreography. She’s one of the weakest pros in the show and it’s painful looking at Eddie with her as he would have been a contender for the final with a strong pro
Maybe Karen is banking on a longer-game strategy: get by on strengths he started out with, then rein him in. He's being penalized because this is ballroom Latin cha-cha: the competition scoring is still international style cha-cha, rather than feel-good-freestyle-anything-goes.
Typically set up by strictly. If they want to promote a celebrity, the music is popular and if they don't the music is unknown. Happens every single year. I hope he gets votes and stays in
It's so annoying when the judge's whole critique is about how the choreography wasn't right for the dance. That's nothing to do with the celebrity! Pointless.
Really love Eddie's energy, hoping he gets some more of the technique down in weeks to come, then we'll really see what he has to offer. A large part of the judge's criticism was more a criticism of the choreography. Plus another bad dress for the specific dance- cha cha dresses are never that long?!! It didn't make sense, plus the work Karen had to put in to try and manoeuvre it out of the way; so unnecessary.
Eddie Kadi and Karen Hauer Next dancing the Cha Cha Cha. negatives the feet debacle Eddie danced almost all the moves Karen gave him this week on the front of his feet on his toes however when he got infront of the judgers at the end Shirley Ballas said that in the footwork in the Cha Cha Cha the footwork should be at the back of the foot not at the front, where as clearly if you see in the VT it shows Karen Houer telling him to go on his toes, which woman was correct I'll let you decide but what I will say none of this was Eddie's fault he has been told how to do something and he will do that, he is not a pro himself so how the hell would he know if he is doing something correct or not. I honestly felt the judgers where way to hash on Eddie I mean come on it is week two not week ten, it was like he accidentally insulted there world of dance and they were suddenly out for blood, it is ridicules he is a celeb that has never danced before is trying hard to lean how to dance and doing a good job seeing as he has only a week to learn and as he has already said on the show it self he has only ever danced at party's and wedding so he is a complete novice to dancing as a hole. I think there maybe a little be of racism going on from the judgers end of thing widely enough Craig was the only totally professional saying simply it wasn't a Cha Cha Cha. however I do not think it is fare to blame Eddie for a dance that he gave a good go at and maybe didn't get right the blame should land with the teacher and not the student but the Judgers didn't say anything about her and just pushed all there blame out on him which he should not be accounted for. I hope Eddie get though to next because he is a great guy with a lot of dancing potential.
Whenever I hear "the choreography doesn't suit this dance", I don't think that's a negative for the dance itself but rather sabotage by someone behind the scenes tbh 😕
Eddie showed musicality and was having fun. He was showcasing his personality with nods to his culture. I thought it was unfair he was penalised so harshly by the judges on choreography. It was an enjoyable number. I’m looking forward to seeing his samba !
They should penalise Karen for the choreography and judge him on his dancing alone which was fantastic
I thought this was undermarked tbh. He should’ve got more. The fact that they almost blamed him for the choreography is just over the top... but tbh at first I didn’t recognise this as a Cha Cha 😅

i agree, but in that case karen should really step it up. this is her 12th series and she is still getting comments about her choreography.

A bit harsh, it is only week two, and she needs to hide his pigeon toes
Karen isn't the best choreographer of all the pros. I remember in one of her early years, she had a lift in a Waltz.
What was wrong with the choreo?

negatives
the feet debacle
Eddie danced almost all the moves Karen gave him this week on the front of his feet on his toes however when he got infront of the judgers at the end Shirley Ballas said that in the footwork in the Cha Cha Cha the footwork should be at the back of the foot not at the front, where as clearly if you see in the VT it shows Karen Houer telling him to go on his toes, which woman was correct I'll let you decide
