  • Join me on this bright October day in the Lincolnshire countryside as we walk through the picturesque woodland at Normanby Hall Country Park and into the Victorian walled garden and stables. Be sure to watch until the end as we take a tour inside Normanby Hall to see how they lived in the past. If you enjoy this video please consider subscribing to the channel / @walktheworldaway
Normanby Hall Country Park is an idyllic estate set in the heart of North Lincolnshire just 5 miles from Scunthorpe in England. The present hall was built in 1825-30 to the designs of Robert Smirke for Sir Robert Sheffield (1786-1862). The old hall was demolished in 1825 and replaced by the new building at a cost of £29,161 which included a fee of £750 to Sir Robert Smirke the architect. The result was a typical late Regency country house in Ancaster stone with a slate roof.
The Sheffield family had lived on the site since 1539 and the family's titles include Dukes of Buckingham and Normanby and Sheffield baronets. It replaced a previous 17th century building. John Sheffield became Duke of Buckingham and Normanby in 1703. He built a fine mansion in London called Buckingham House. His son, the second Duke sold the house to George III and it is now known as Buckingham Palace. The house was extended and altered to designs by Walter Brierley between 1906 and 1908.
The Sheffield family moved out of Normanby Hall in 1963. The hall is now in the care of the North Lincolnshire Council. The former 350 acre estate around the hall is now a country park. Within it, there are a restored working Victorian walled garden, a farming museum, duck ponds, a deer sanctuary, a fishing lake, a miniature railway and a stableyard with the life-size Horse and Rider sculpture by Harold Gosney. Samantha Cameron, wife of the former Prime Minister of England, David Cameron and elder daughter of the eighth Baronet, grew up on the estate.
An exhibition named 'George Stubbs and The Anatomy Of The Horse' was on show in the stables at the time of this video. Mr Stubbs is considered one of the country's most revered equestrian painters, completing much of the work for his 1766, ground-breaking book, The Anatomy of the Horse, while living in Horkstow.
The colourful painted horses placed around the estate formed part of the 'Horsing Around' sculpture trail created to celebrate the 300th birthday of George Stubbs. Ten of the sculptures have been placed in prominent locations around North Lincolnshire while another ten were added to Normanby Hall Country Park. Each horse was painted by a different local artist that was selected by the North Lincolnshire Council to "celebrate local people's talent".
In 2024 the popular tree top adventure Go Ape was introduced to the park.

greetings from germany, beautiful scenary. as much as i would like to lean back and relax, this is not possible with massive ad breaks inbetween, as it destroys the whole atmosphere. i accept, we all want as much money as possible in this world, but i wont prostitute myself into buying ad freedom. had to switch it off …

Apologies, I understand how disruptive ads can be. I pay for UA-cam Premium to avoid this as I find it worth the little extra to enjoy the otherwise free content 🕊️
