It's not an intelligence failure if operations refuses to listen. As they say in the Navy "Ops drives the boat". If Ops had a reason to not listen, or just chose to turn a blind eye...that's on them.
Telling also that it was a female officer who was ignored by the Intelligence chief. Just an old boys club?
Given that Israel knew and they were given a heads up by Egypt a few days before they still failed to enforce their own security and took hours to respond whilst Hamas attacked Israeli citizens. The accusation that Netanyahu failed to safeguard deliberately with a view to conducting war on Gaza is a good one and quite evil. Netanyahu needs to go and be made accountable.
I think I speak for most Israelis who oppose Netnayahu deeply when I say he definitely did not want this to happen. The October 7th massacre by Hamas was a catastrophe and according to all polls, a political disaster. So that claim makes no sense. Netanyahu is viewed by most Israelis as a failed cowardly divisive politician who neglected his people by not dealing with the Hamas problem. He will face judgment for that failure along with his entire government - but he is not evil and does not aim to use death as currency, that's what Hamas does. It's the one difference between the two sides everyone seems to fail to understand. We strive for life, Hamas strives for death.

@EvilTwinsen maybe bibi didn't realize how much damage would be done. He probably thought 20 people dead and a few hundred held hostage was acceptable. He didn't realize his army would show up and start shelling houses with hostages in them. Isreal new papers suggest idf killed at least half of the people.

Netanyahu wouldn’t have negotiated for prisoners if there hadn’t been US pressure.
We all said it was a false flag. There is no way that border would be unguarded and a 8 hour response time to an attack.
It may have taken up to 8 hours in some regards for certain military responses, but in many, the terrorists were being repels and killed during their initial assaults. That 8 hour narrative is propaganda spin that’s out of context.

While I appreciate the reporting from Morning Joe, it is SUPER frustrating that the producers don’t mute Joe & Mika while the guests are speaking. All the whispers and papers shuffling are distracting and come across as very unprofessional.

Think about where Netanyahu was 6 months ago….he had cobbled together a right wing extremist government and was under huge political pressure because of his attack on the judicial branch of government. There were hundreds of thousands of people protesting in the streets against the Government. He gives money to Hamas and moves troops off the border with Gaza DESPITE having the full 40 page Hamas Oct 7th plan. Egypt even warns Israel days before Oct 7th that an attack from Hamas was imminent. Then the IDF takes 6-8 hours to respond ? Netanyahu wanted Hamas to attack,he knew the only way to save his political career was going to war in Gaza so he could fight the “existential threat“ Israel faced.
You had me until the end. I think the reality is that Netanyahu and his allies were blinded by hubris. They simply believed that their right wing rhetoric and actions would be enough to deter Hamas. Their choice to divert troops to the West Bank was totally motivated by politics and not military. Israeli military officials former and present, plus ex and current intelligence officers, were publicly warning that the judicial “reform” and West Bank policies were making Israel look weak and divided, and the Bibi coalition mocked them. I liken the current government coalition to the US House GOP. Very similar dynamic, especially when Trump’s Kevin was Speaker.

But he did not likely because Hamas is a convenient boogeyman to scare Israelis to look the other way while the settlers annex the West Bank. If he knew of the report, I doubt he thought it was credible and probably relied on his defense minister, Yoav Gallant, who was in charge the Southern Command (which includes Gaza) from 2005-2010, who likely would have been aware of the report so I would put more blame on him.

Criticizing Israel does not equal defending or supporting Hamas. Obviously, Hamas attacked Israel and it was an act of evil. Considering the IDF being one of the most advanced military in the world and the growing evidence that this attack was a known threat, the fact they allowed the Gaza border to be under staffed at any period of time is unacceptable. They knew this was going to happen, they let it, they have no regard for Palestinian nor Israeli lives, they only want power. Some people seem to want to justify Hamas’ attack because of Palestinian oppression, which I think is awful. There is no justifying a massacre. The same can be said of Israel’s massacre of Palestinians. There is deep seated hatred and I do not know how it will be resolved, but we need to fight this hatred. Not just in this conflict but all over the world.
