That's a nice rig. All of those upgrades will be great and power steering is a must have. I've driven these old C-10's without PS and you need huge bicep's to be able to steer it!
I have the K20 version, and have had it with me for over 40 years... Nut and bolt restored it and kept it stock OE. Your idea of upgrading the axles, tcase, and suspension are good plans. Converting to PS is easier said than done if you want it to be done right, so I recommend keeping the manual steering. Upgrade to PB is a shoe in if you upgrade to a D44 disc brake front axle. Upgrade the engine to SBC, since getting the proper engine mount towers is easier (This generation 67-68 of 4x4 Suburban never came with BBC).
I think what your plan is, is awesome. I love the sound of a big block. I personally like the 250 inline 6 because it’s original. I like things to stay original but it is cool to see builds like what your going to do. Love your videos!!
My dear departed mother was a Gmc suburban freak. It was a 1962 long with windows and seats, with the 304.5 v-6 3 speed manual. Then a 1965 short with the same drive train. I learned to drive in the 65. I was 8yrs old. That big v6 was a stump puller. If you want to see a picture, watch orange county choppers. The painter guy has one that looks identical.
This particular Suburban that was produced by Chevrolet and GMC was in production from 1967 to 1972. This replaced the two door variant that went out of production in 1966. I have a friend who owns a 1971 GMC Suburban ambulance that was used by the United States Navy. The missing left rear door was used as either a bench for the ambulance attendant or the medical officer. Also had storage bins for supplies and features the dual swing out doors with the "disc brakes" sticker on the back. I do look forward to seeing you restore this truck you have.
I’ve got a ‘72 Suburban that started life as a C20 with rear coils. Someone 5-lug swapped it before I got it, then I just swapped the body onto a K10 frame with a 4” lift and 33x10.50s. I’m still working out the kinks from the swap, but it’s an awesome family rig.
That's an awesome suburban my man that is awesome!!! When I lived in Florida a couple months back, I used to drive to work every morning there was this guy he also had a 3-door suburban. This thing was a surefire going to town rig. It had the same exact setup as your truck has. And I think he's got it up for sale now. But I know damn well I can't afford it Lol
Mine was a 88 2500 6.2 l diesel automatic 4wd with towing package. Drove and rode like a hay wagon. It drove better with a 2.5 ton trailer. But in serious Virginia mountain highways 35mph uphill was about it. It was blue and white. I called it the Blue Ox. Things that needed repairs in about 2 years: gear indicator windshield wiper stalk assembly 3 glow plug controllers starter flywheel both batteries right front hub free dealer re-paint injectors fuel pump leak 3 sets of tires Yet it was quite the experience to drive. I felt like Marge Simpson in her Mountaineer.
I had a 87 3/4 suburban, thing was a piece of shit and almost killed me. Anyway love yours, I’d definitely keep the inline 6 in it. That steps up the cool factor
So this is the handsome fellow behind the cool narrators voice. Love that beard fits you perfectly. Wouldn't expect anything less from a n American car nut. Nice rig too. Big fan of the older suburbans. Had to hill billy buddies in college back in 1998 that drove a jacked up red neck style suburban. Neat rig could go anywhere and in all conditions. Now why would any man tell another dude how to build his dream rig? You just do you and it is sure to be awesome and do for you as you intended it to. Thanks man! You and yours have a great day yourselves!
Not a hard one to find, but we call our 07 Suburban the great white whale because she's massive. Been in the family since she was new in late 06, 318k miles as of this week
I absolutely love this Suburban! Same year as my first GMC 1500 pick-up. I'm a third-generation c10 owner, and have seen my fair share of these pick-ups. My dad has a (80%) factory 1967 Custom factory short bed with a factory panoramic cab. During the restoration process, we uncovered what we believe to be factory holes in the hood for an ornament. Thing is...we found the ornament in the glovebox and it matched. So...my question is- did these have optional hood ornaments? Maybe a dealership option? Also haven't seen many of those steering wheel horn covers, any information on those is appreciated, as this particular pickup also has that horn cover. Love the content, sir!
That has to be kind of rare four wheel drive 1968 suburban? Four-wheel drive and suburban are about the only two things that I'm not home in the '67-72 Chevy line trucks. I generally concentrate on c10s. But I currently own at least one c20. CST is my favorite. The 68 is my favorite overall. I currently have a couple of 67 C10 trucks. One of them I've had since 1985 or so. The other one I've had for a few years. It's kind of hard to find one 28,000 original miles. Anyway these have always been my favorite year trucks. The 67 is okay but when I was searching for my 68 CST I passed on a number 67 csts which are a lot more rare. It simply wasn't like a truck ahead in high school. I did have a 1969 panel truck which is a lot like the suburban just no windows. I don't even think I was 18 when I dropped in a hopped up engine and a friend of mine just had to have it. Now they 1988 through about 1997 with more rounded kind of like the '67-72. I bought a few of them over the last few years and mothballs in because there's a new up and coming and we got some modern things that my 68 just doesn't have. Anyway so in short I really enjoyed this episode about your 68 4x4 suburban. The only thing I think I do is find or manufacture my own four-wheel drive shifts selector so it's not banging me in my shin. Other than fixing what leaks you can fix I pretty much leave it like it is. See I like those side marker lights. When I bought the 67 to replace my 68 back when I was a kid I was disappointed because it did not have a side marker lights. Anyways all personal preference I know a lot of guys prefer the 67. Over short beds and definitely sleep side over stepside. But it's nice at different people like different body styles
Haha my white wale would be; our 2003 GMC YUKON XL 1500 DENALI w/ AWD. As for the 3 door thing, hyundai makes fun of this a bit with their somewhat dark ad for the hyundai veloster Edit: that start up reminds me of the 225 slant six in the 81 d150 I had. Also, is the go kart so you can run and get gas when you run out on the road lol
That front axle looks a LOT like a Toyota's. If parts availability is your reason for upgrading It'd be worth your time to look into an axle reseal kit for an FJ40. The land cruiser axle saw very few changes from the 50's all the way through 97; a lot were produced and a lot of people still run 'em (not to mention other solid axle yota rigs during those years) so parts for those can be had very easily...may well be bolt on solutions.
I would keep it completely stock. And restore it nicely. No lift. No fat tyres. Keep the original engine. There are already enough monstertrucks out there, that’s nothing special. Keep it nice original and simple.
No bulb behind those front clip marker lights really must been an US thing I’m Canadian and my late father’s 68’GMC 910 had light behind those marker lights so a few of my late big brother’s 68,9,71 Chevy & GMC trucks did
As Canadian 60’s GMC trucks has V8 over the same tonnage and models as to USA GMC trucks with V6’s 305,351, 401 & 478 Magnums as well US GMC model numbers differ from Canadian GMC trucks for US 55’GMC 350 that what a 2 ton or 11/2 ton ok Canadian GMC 9500 is equivalent to the US one US 60’GMC 1,000 ours 910 and so on oh yes Texas,Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico as well Florida has no block heaters
That's a nice rig. All of those upgrades will be great and power steering is a must have. I've driven these old C-10's without PS and you need huge bicep's to be able to steer it!
nice 40 series👍
I'm sure old vehicles is where "forgetting leg day" got it's start.
What a beautiful SUV!! I really want to see some follow ups on this.
Definitely it's in a long list but we are hoping to start knocking that list down quick in the near future
Love the truck and the plans for it. Keeping it simple and not going overboard is sometimes the best thing.

Thanks 👍
That Suburban is awesome!!! I would definitely drive that!!
3/4 axles, power steering, brakes, mild small block, keep the 4 speed, 35” tires.
I dig it.
The cab over next to it 🤩
nice rig for sure 100% on the 3/4 ton axles and I like 2" of lift not to much but just enough. Good stuff keep them coming
Love the Suburban!🤘🔥
COUNTRY BOY in the house its no bus but a baby bus none the less thanks for commenting 👍
My dad bought his first Suburban in ‘68. He and I have owned one ever since. I now have his ‘79 and my own ‘99.
Yep like this one. That was an awesome start up!

Had a 69 for a while love that burban, took it from Oregon to Florida and back. Fun memories
Love 💖 old trucks❤
Looks beautiful and the plans sound perfect. Can't wait to see the end product.
That is a nice ride thanks for the tour
I like that generation of suburban.

new here just peeking around and that truck is gorgeous and will be just sweet when you're done now I must follow to see where it goes
👍Nice ol 68 workhorse. Good stuff.

That is very cool...
I love that old rig!
This is the one that got the most votes for your next project and how the LS Volvo idea started. Ready to see this thing get all the work done.
love it and love your ideas with it. would love to own one of these some day.
That is awesome. Especially being straight 6 and no power options
Driven this white whale a few times. Still drives perfect. Great vid homie. 👌🏻
I love this thing I'd buy it in a heart beat! its so simple and easy! plus the straight 6 is amazing and easy to work on!
I do love I6 motors, just a dependable unit
New subscriber and if my my two cents count's or not. I voting yep Guy likes to watch/learn.
Thanks for viewing we appreciate it
My dad had a 1974 GMC with a 350 . He bought it the day I was born and in 1995 my brother wrecked it
Thanks for the info! Cool old rig!
Nice truck still has the old am push select radio no 8. Track darn. :) enjoy the day.
Your a nut, my kind of peoples! Gotta love a truck that won't quit, thanks for sharing. Hope to see the old girl still truckin' in 2068!
I dig these suburbans! I had a 72 blue/white 2wd
That's a keeper, don't throw it back in. 👍
That's an awesome suburban my man that is awesome!!! When I lived in Florida a couple months back, I used to drive to work every morning there was this guy he also had a 3-door suburban. That suburban NEEDS ME😁
It would get the NP205 T-Case and open knuckle, big spicer hub front axle and the drop in 3rdmember rear axle😎
The "Old Girl" is worn out... I'm in love! 🤣
Things that needed repairs in about 2 years:
gear indicator
windshield wiper stalk assembly
3 glow plug controllers
starter
flywheel
both batteries
right front hub
free dealer re-paint
injectors
fuel pump leak
3 sets of tires
Yet it was quite the experience to drive. I felt like Marge Simpson in her Mountaineer.
You sir are my hero
Love the burb. I too have the bug. 2 pickups, 1 sub and soon to have K5. All between 67-72. Liked and subscribed
Thank you. It sounds like a beautiful collection
yes that's nice 👍
She’s a beaut Clark! Make those cool mods!
Good idea just make sure frame is good to go . Great longer videos 🎉💯
Love it I had two of them god bless
I had a 87 3/4 suburban, thing was a piece of shit and almost killed me. Anyway love yours, I’d definitely keep the inline 6 in it. That steps up the cool factor
Cool truck, lotta work

@@DudesWithWrenches most welcome buddy! Hope you have a most wonderful day!
very nice!! I like it!
Cool project 👍
There's no battery at frame [1:50] but then you hop right in and start it. Magic.
That is the most analogous example of a 'white whale' I've ever seen, 😂. I Love it!
The size of that monster reminds me of my old International Carry All
I dig your suburban man
I would keep it give it it’s love it needs!!
Not a hard one to find, but we call our 07 Suburban the great white whale because she's massive. Been in the family since she was new in late 06, 318k miles as of this week
Very cool
Nice truck. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible day. Much love and RESPECT brother
Right now my white whale is an affordable car that is fun to drive and comfortable
Power Stearing Power Brakes Big Block 4 Speed in that classic truck will be amazing
Bro sounds like an awesome project
Love the rig!!! Big block! Put 1 tons under her and call it a day
I grew up in one of those till it threatened to drop us through the floor.
Sweet ride! I'd drive'er!

3door Suburban. Nice 🙂
Great motor
I have 3 vehicles with 250 I6, and none of them give me any issues, and their bullet proof

She's beautiful just the way it is.
I drove it daily for a long time it's fun until it's not
If you do some work on hr, please share. I have a 71, GMC variety.
Little love and care
Fun project. Just needs a few things fixed.
I never knew that. Wow
God bless
Hey Buddy! So when can I pick it up! lol
i wanna drop a 3 door and make it a luxury limo from the 70s with candy paint and gold trim
Hell yea
Haha my white wale would be; our 2003 GMC YUKON XL 1500 DENALI w/ AWD.

Big block 3/4 ton that'd be a screamer
Make er a Duraburb💪

BIG BLOCK! why not LS swap it...I hear you have some experience with that sort of thing 😜. Seriously nice rig though.
Definitely needs a big block and a lift and a 67 front clip I hate that side marker on 68s
She is a nice beautiful rig truck. 😍💯 I just wish it was an automatic instead of a 4-speed manual tho. 😐
I notice you saying this on each video...what's wrong with a stick?
@@drewlinton3472 Not on all the videos, also... I'm automatic all the way. 💯 💪
I want one 😫
Ok ok, I’ll do it. I’ll trade you my 82 civic for this Rig, even though it’s a 4 speed and I was really looking for a 3 speed with Overdrive.
I say upgrade to the 3/4 ton axles&lift kit looks like a good strong strait body
I've got a set of good 12bolt 6lug axles if you want them.
We have a few ourselves thanks for the offer
Like.
Inline 6 has power had a Chevy ll and I ran fine
73 -75 k5 is my white whale, i have a 90 k5 but really want a full convertible. I wish somebody would make a conversion kit.
I like burbs.
I daily one.

Bulb was there in all 69s and up, and I'm guessing a higher optioned 68. This is as base as you can get
As Canadian 60’s GMC trucks has V8 over the same tonnage and models as to USA GMC trucks with V6’s 305,351, 401 & 478 Magnums as well US GMC model numbers differ from Canadian GMC trucks for US 55’GMC 350 that what a 2 ton or 11/2 ton ok Canadian GMC 9500 is equivalent to the US one US 60’GMC 1,000 ours 910 and so on oh yes Texas,Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico as well Florida has no block heaters
I say do it that would make a good truck even better
Doug demero needs to find an all original example
72 C-10 327 3 on the tree
Dude it. Update, upgrade it. I wish I could help
this is my first video I've seen of you and it looks like you're jumping on the "bearded man talks about vehicles on UA-cam" bandwagon lol
I got a heart! yay!!!
They used wood in cars in the late 60s. Wow
