    This helped me so much for my first freshmen engineering project! I didn't even know Catia before starting it, just inventor. Thanks! -New freshman at ERAU Daytona

    Using assembly and sheet metal workbench helps you with a wider range of CAE analysis on the aircraft design. For example stress, vibration and aerodynamics can be performed with assembly and sheet metal designs. I wold only use surface and wire frame for mechanisms (skeleton) such as that of jet engines nozzles and flaperons.

    Splines and multi-section surfaces are a very in accurate way of creating surfaces. They're easy to make, but provide very little control over the quality of your surface. You can tell if you do a porcupine curvature analysis on your curves or an inflection analysis on your surfaces. You'd be able to see that the surface's minimum curvature radius direction switches from one side of the surface to the other. Most of the time (aerodynamically speaking) that's bad. You're better off using conic curves and using law-controlled conic surfaces - they give a high degree of surface control and won't inflect unless you force it to.

    Great VIDEO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, HOW IS A DESIGN TRANSFORMED IN TO AN ACTUAL PLANE? HOW ARE THE ACTUAL CONTOURS AND DIMENSIONS PUT INTO REALITY?

      you print the diagrams and plans you made, brings them to Princess Celestia who creates the plane using the magic of friendship.
      or humans who have tools but they are less reliable.

    Hello,
    I´m trying to get my paper plans into Catia, but absolutly new to this, i don´t have any idea of doing that. Then i found your vids, and was able to make the wireframe and surfaces of my wing :-)
    I like to make prepunch parts on my cnc router, to minimize the Jigs that i have to use.
    Normaly it should work fine with Catia, but how to make the Sheetmetal Ribs with Holes in Skin and Ribs alined, so when they are unfold and converted to DXF to make Gcodes to run my little router? And same to the wooden formblocks for the wing?
    if you could help me to get an idea of that, it would be more than great!

      Hi there, glad it helped :)
      The easiest way from what you were saying would be to design the rib/wing parts in Catia then use the machining workbench to generate the gcodes which I have done before. This would be the easiest way. You should be able to design everything using my tutorials and then I could put out some videos on the machining if you aren't on a tight timescale?

      Hi! Thanks for your fast answer!
      Yes your Tutorials helped me along to see things growing.
      when i change in sheetmetal workbench to generate my ribflanges i mostly get the message "Not quite on the suport element" and i´m not able to make the rivetholes along the flange or skin? timeline hmm it would be great to fly it in my lifetime ;-) but looking forward to!
      cheers

    Can't I make a spline over all points from the front to the back? Or are there just three points possible?

    • @jacobjenkins4446
      @jacobjenkins4446 3 дні тому

      sometimes its not needed since the sketches display the main shape you want. More is just kind of overkill

    Hello,
    thanks for the video, very helpful. One question do you reckon it is possible to draw on CATIA the flight control system on an airplane? (Links, cables,push rod that connect pilot to elevator/aileron)
    Regards

      @TheCAEGuy  9 років тому +1

      Shouldn't be any reason why not although I believe there is a predefined workbench for doing wiring schematics. You can do it via normal part design using 3d points lines and splines too I would wager!

    First of all great Video! I've got a question though. For university we have to draw a Wireframe of the Beluga from Airbus. And one of the requirements was, that the splines had to be "derived" so that the reflection of light for example would look nicer if you put in a actual surface. How would i do that? And do you have an Idea when part 2 is coming? I'm kind of stuck on how to add the wings when my fuselage is basically round everywhere. So i've got no "empty" spaces available like you used for the nosecone.
    Great Video though. You definitely earned a sub with this one :)

      Archoncommando Hi, thanks for the sub! :) as to your question - i'm not quite sure what you mean. I'm very familiar with Beluga, so why is the requirement to derive and already designed aircraft? and why is the requirement to lok nice? Care to elaborate a bit?
      Yes part two is coming! I have a fair amount of commitments outside of the channel so recently i haven't been able to commit as much time as i would like! Working on it now though! :)

      Mike John
      I just translated the "derive" part from what our professor said in german. What i mean, is that for example the beluga main fuselage. Im using the same technique you're using (sketches on planes) but i have a couple of problems. To do the Fuselage sketch i use a halfcircle with the diameter of an a 330. I then positioned a circle with the required diameter of the cargobay and placed it above the lower part of the fuselage. I then used the circle tool to make a line for the outer skin and connected it. It looks funtional and all but the spot where the smaller lower diameter meets the bigger circle is pretty edgy. I'm looking for a tool to smooth that out. The look nice part is just a requirement from the professor. The goal is just to get us to actually draw a wireframe using a CAD program. Would it help you if i posted a screenshot of what i mean to imgur or something?
      greetings
