There is 2 different service schedules in the manual. Normal duty and severe duty. Normal is at 2k and severe is 1k. I personally service my x3 around 1k miles. There is also a silicone funnel that slides through a skid plate hole that makes draining oil easier. Enjoy Nick! Glad to see an x3 in the dirt dudes fleet…now have a sxs I can relate to!
Nick you shoukd use drown mode to cycle the engine so you can get all the old oil out of the engine and the oil filter just press the start button an thw brakes and fully press the gas pedal it won't start it will just cycle it
I’ve never ever even put mine in diff lock. But in 4x4 you can go full speed! I drive in the California deserts and Glamis all the time. Had my car for going on four years and never blown a front diff let alone a belt for that matter and I drive as fast as I can go most of the time. So good choice on the can am!! As far as trail and trail active I’ve never figured it out. To me seems like there is no difference between the two in my opinion.changing the fluids and refilling them is the worst that’s where Polaris has it good. Service a Polaris is easier in my opinion.
I like they way ya explained the whole cluster options... it made sense to me since I had a polaris and now I got my 23 x3 coming in about a week.... and I like that "trunk stopper" or whatever it's called..lol...
And the dps from how I understand it is min, least amount of power steering assist added, med is middle, max is most assist. I get more feedback on min and least on max.
Thank you for explaining the different switches. I have a 2019, bought new, and have never figured out trail or over ride switches. I drive desert only, Ocotillo(not wells), Plaster City and Superstion.
MR RPM spin on oil filter adapter makes for a clean oil filter change, plus opens up a ton of different filters you can run, especially in a pinch if you can't get a cartridge
I've got a DS Base and love it DPS Low = Snow and sand conditions where the front tires glide over the ground easy Med = General and fast trail riding Hi = Rocks Power Eco = Unload/Load off trailer, Rocky terrain Sport = Literally everything else Front Diff Trail = 85% of my 4WD driving Trail-Activ = Pulling harder out of corners, Snow, Rocks Diff-lock = Typicially needed when its too late and i'm already stuck, full on mud. 4WD 2WD = haha, tires go weeeee 4WD = Pulling hard on the fast roads, Gnarly wooded trails, Snow, Mud, Rocks.
Its funny watching you guys trying to drain the oil. In the rocks High dps, every where else I like medium dps. I use a water bottle cut 2/3 of it off, for a funnel, When you get an exhaust and delete the stock exhaust and rear facia piece, it makes filling so much easier and its easier to do other maintenance.
My dealership told me not to worry about the mileage on my can am rs x3 go by the hours. Break in 25 hours and then after that , every 50 hours full service an the front diff 2500 miles in first 4 months lots of diff lock still perfect haven't broke yet
You need to get the special wheel bearing grease tool and grease your wheel bearings. Can Am and Polaris come from the factory with very minimal grease in the wheel bearings. The first time you do it, it's kind of difficult, but really easy after that. There's some really good videos on UA-cam on how to do it.
I have a Ski doo snowmobile 900 ace turbo and it looks like the same deal with the drain plugs, i just take a allen socket on a short or long extension loosen it up with ratchet then take the ratchet off and turn the plugs out by hand with the allen socket and the extension and just get a big pan and let the oil drain, it makes a little bit of a mess, you can also get some (Pig Matting, its oil absorbing material) and what doesn't hit the pan will fall on that. that way you don't have to reach up in there to unscrew the bolts by hand, but that's just how i do it.
Cussed many times changing oil on my '19. Raptor offroad has a specific funnel that is cheap and worked for me. Change the front diff fluid often, on my 3rd one. I use a snap on ball allen with a wrench to break it. Just snug when tightening
Nick there is 2 holes on the front of the seat bracket so you can adjust the seat more forward like your use to. They come in the layed back position from the factory but it comes with the adjustment too
That is good to know! I'm 5'5" and when I drove my buddy's new one I hated that position soo much! I felt like a 9 year old trying to see over the hood on steep inclines.
@Jizden_Mipanz yeah there is a extra hole only in the front on the seat bracket, you have to unbolt it but it brings the front of the seat down like you would normally sit.
The 17mm drains the main motor oil compartment and the 10mm drains from the oil filter compartment....also you can use any basic funnel just trim it to fit accordingly... Another secret, you can router the skid plate drain hole a bit bigger... I've opened mine by half inch all the way around. Untill I reached the frame part that's it's the way.. Replace those stock lower A Arms!! They're notorious for snapping breaking and bending at the weak link...
Thanks for the review, kinda already have my mind geared towards the XRC so your feedbacks on your XC just helps me pull the trigger feeling I'm making the right choice.
Nick a particle separator is almost a must but until you can get one they make a foam filter you actually oil like a dirt bike it works ok in my opinion better than the paper element.
I love that you guys have some diversity in your cars now... Next i'm curious about the new KRX Turbo 4 cylinder thats supposed to be coming... would be cool to have another brand competing with the pro r and the mav r.
Make sure you get that clutch housing guard. You break a belt and it will explode your inner clutch cover. Get the carbon fiber guard. No drilling, slides right in Around me, it's about 90-100 bucks for a new key and the programming On your rear bed platform, I believe there is hole lined up directly above your oil fill cap. But you have to have a long enough funnel to reach down there from the bed. Much easier.
Highly recommend CA Tech front gusset kit, limit straps and frame reinforcement. The front ends can get twisted on jumps or thumping it over rocks at speed. About $1500 for the front end work but cheaper than a new frame and 1 year wait.
Key is cheap enough so no worries. 4wd trail is a normal open diff 3wd. Trail active is the smart mode, locks/unlocks based on a few sensor inputs. A cut up water bottle makes a great mess free funnel for oil changes. The xrc model has a wide brake pedal so you can just replace with it.
Nick, get the “X3 RC” stock brake pedal, don’t get an extension, the stock RC brake pedal is fantastic! And the brakes on the X3 are “soft feeling” to many, doubt you have air in the line. As long as they lock up, hate to say it, but “get used to the brake feel” would be my best advice, as not many past a complete big brake kit will change the feel. You can get pads that bite the rotor more, but the X3 is already hard on pads if you are not a lift and coast type driver.
I dremeled my skid plate out to fit a silicone filter in there a little better. Would highly recommend if you plan on servicing that thing regularly. Also after you get both drain plugs out you can push the brake and gas to the floor to try and start it and it will flush the remaining oil out, so it doesn’t make a mess when you pull the filter out. Funnel with hose on it straight down through the bed to fill. I also, run my dps on minimum. It has far more self steer for sliding corners and drifting 👍
to get rid of the spongy brake you need to make steel lines. I changed rotors and pads. The car stops fine but I hate the spongy pedal too. 50k in parts and still needs more.
Nick if your looking for some rear radius rods and a pull plate let me know I’ll cut you a crazy deal on new set of ca technologies USA high clearance radius rods and pull plate. New in the box ready to ship, I decided to go a different route on manufacture so reason looking to sell. Lmk
I’m pretty sure the Polaris 4wd isn’t always in 4wd till the rear tires start to slip in the slightest bit. I know their new RZRs have it and the four wheelers have it. Once the 4wd in engaged it also locks too and turns off once traction is regained. I could be wrong about the SXSs having it, but they’ve advertised that their newer vehicles have it included the rangers and the new.
Dead pedal? In eco mod yes, somewhat on takeoff. In Sport mode I have never noticed it. It may be a different feeling to you than a Polaris but you will get used to it. You don't need a Pedal Commander. You should also blow the clutches out after every dusty ride. If you drive with your brain you won't blow belts and destroy the clutch covers. Have fun!
At silver lake drag racing in 4wheel drive. I’d hit about 52 mph. With the front diff locked in I’d get 56mph. From what I’ve read and experienced is dps is only for slower speeds. When your going fast dps goes to minimum no matter what you have set. Just my 2 cents.
The "Override" button comes in very handy when you need full power in reverse to get out of a stuck situation where you cannot go forward but the reverse speed limiter prevents you from getting unstuck. Wish my RZR had that feature. It's very common on four wheelers.

I have a 21 XRS and I have some of the same irritations. For the brake pedal, buy an XRC brake pedal, it’s like a 20 minute replacement and fairly cheap. For the oil, they sell a silicone funnel that will make your life SO much easier. I run CT Race Worx for all my gussets and can’t say enough good things, other than I need a bigger budget. Lol.
Watch out if you put the front speaker panels in. Some x3 , mine basically, would rip the steering wheel out of my hands and spin to the right.. Yes the dealer can adjust it with an appointment and shop time just don't be like me and go for a rip with the new system lol
Oil changes do suck, but their are 3 different after market funnels that fit in between the skid plate and motor that catch about 99% I got mine for about 9$ check rock mtn. 2nd tip 6in extension with 2 decent wobblies go up threw the funnel much easier for me anyway.
