To the comments that Paul is getting shown up or marginalized, he's showing respect. It's called professional courtesy not to take over when it isn't all about him.
I actually had a great time jamming with Paul McCartney and Johnny Depp, and the rest of the crew, we had so much fun. And it was an honor to work with such icons.
Just stubbed across this, a great moment captured, well one on being part of that moment. Can you name some of the others with you, it would be good for them to share in the spotlight.
I love this guy (Sir McCartney) more with every new bit of information that I learn about him and the other Beatles. As a Black person (Male) growing up in the 60s and being an Army brat, I learned about Sir McCartney/The Beatles in 1963 while my father was stationed in Germany. Unbelievably, I used to want to be Paul! Crazy right! Well, Black or White, there were many people who fancied themselves one of the Beatles back then, I was no different. Sir McCartney/The Beatles have never been afraid to show their admiration for black music/artist even in the 60s when this country (America) was undergoing historic changes in race relations. I recently saw a Facebook post from George Takei showing an anti-segregation clause in the contract The Beatles had when they played in America in the 60s. I wish more Black people knew that back then. Generally, Blacks were criticized by Blacks and Whites for listening to “White” music back then. I caught hell for it but now I am glad that my devotion to Sir McCartney and The Beatles remained unwavering then and now!
Wow. Some of the misunderstanding here.. First, McCartney isn’t “using” these guys. He’s there to shoot a video for a song about him and J Lennon. Fact that a jam session develops and was captured is great; fact it was posted was probably his media people-I doubt PM is personally posting this stuff. But yes, someone should have listed names. Ok, as to whether he could play. This is a fairly easy blues jam in E.. easy... musically (the voices and singing make it sizzle!).. Paul is laying back in the cut not showing off not making it about him. That’s cool, right? I mean, McCartney has jammed w/ chuck berry, fats domino, little Richard-he basically discovered and sent Hendrix to Monterey-pretty sure he’s not intimidated playing open 12 bar blues in E.. idk what y’all want. Thought the video concept was interesting mapping his and Johns’s experience onto these two random kids in the US south. Most Beatles covers were of black artists & as mentioned, they had anti-segregation clauses in their touring contracts. Paul is and has been on the right side of this stuff since he was a kid.
100% spot on. People on here comparing race above another - is racist. Paul McCartney is probably the greatest artist ever. He is humble, funny, respectful of all people, rich or poor, black asian or white. Paul is enjoying himself so much. And the local people are enjoying jamming with a true musical legend in Paul McCartney. And he's there for the video of Early Years. Btw - PM played in front of the largest paying gig in history - In Brasil, nearly 800.000 and a million plus outside. So don't come and compare, rate, ridicule, the biggest selling artist in history. Paul was about 71 years old in this video. Give him sone credit. Great watch to see all enjoying the music.
I was expecting this is be all about Paul and Johnny, using the other guys as a backing. How wrong I was, this is just incredible. This is how music should be!
I'm still confused as to why Depp was invited. He spent the entire session looking lost and out of place. It looked like he played one chord and then pretended to be playing or tuning his guitar the rest of the time. If I didn't know better, I would think he'd never held a guitar before in his life. But he's rich and has expensive guitars, so let's let him play. *rolls eyes*. You should have saved that seat for Brandon "Taz" Niederauer.... he'd actually earn it. The rest of you were amazing!

@@golden3731 that being so, here, Johnny is clearly VERY out of his league here playing beside these experienced blues musicians, as you can see him just blindly and hesitantly move his slide randomly across the fretboard looking for the right key, strumming as lightly as he can so as not to be heard messing up the song. Yeah he does have a pretty great voice singing for Hollywood Vampires and proves to be an adept songwriter too, but as a guitarist, he really blows and tries way too hard. He’s just been a rock n roller most of his life and made a lot of famous rock n roller friends through his credibility as an actor and just squeezed his way in to jamming with the rock stars so that he can feel like he’s just as talented and great as they are to fulfill his fantasy of being a rock star. But really if you pay close enough attention, you’ll notice he’s just a pretender.

The musicians rotate through vocal solos. Paul's comes in at about 8:58. He's doing the Little Richard number "Miss Ann," which he also did during the Let it Be rehearsals. You'll probably get the chance to hear that version when the Let it Be documentary comes out this Thanksgiving weekend.
