Kentucky fans over-inflate their coach's seat. Wright's not coming back, Donovan's not coming back, Drew won't recruit like Cal, Pitino's a retread who has a sketchy past. UK alumni and fans needs to understand the new basketball landscape. Nobody with established credibility wants to put up the UK group of irrational fanatics and silliness.

Unless the coach is a hot, young, up and comer, it would be absolutely stupid to take this job. The fans, stakeholders and entire establishment are unreasonable at best, and insufferable at worst when it comes to their expectations.

Nate Oats just signed a contract extension at Bama, I don’t think he can even leave even if he wanted the job. Dan Hurley is NOT leaving UCONN. Scott Drew is really the likely candidate especially with his buyout so LOW, you spend TONS of money for Dan Hurley and Nate Oats. Bruce Pearl also could be another option. Jay Wright also is NOT coming back to coaching, he’s enjoying retirement. Billy Donovan I can bet you is NOT coming back to CBB, he HATES how the CBB game is now, and it DOESN’T MATTER if the Kentucky job is great, a coach has to understand how the MODERN CBB game is running now, and Cal NEVER understood how the CBB game is now

All these names are so much worse than Cal and/or 100% unavailabe and/or so expensive you could just buy a title through NIL. This is one of the worst times in ncaa history to chase a hall of fame, title-capable coach away. Kentucky has another Billy G era coming and we just have to hope it won't be an extremely long one, because it probably will be.
Oh and the salt in the wound is going to be sitting out of the postseason with 4-5 wins next year while Arkansas rolls to a final four.

@matthewdickens1628 Nah he's been to a bunch of final fours and he'll be back. His strategy with young guys ran into a buzzsaw with the covid supersenior era, he never lost except to teams with dudes 25+ years old, but that's over now and never coming back.
If anything the dudes UK is looking at are the ones who can't replicate. Like Scott Drew, 1 title all time and it's in the bubble tournament, with 0 other final fours ever and a career packed full of first weekend exits or worse. How the hell is that guy going to pop off on a run again?
This whole ordeal is people panicking over temporary conditions and selling the farm to respond to them after they're over. History is going to view this as the biggest mistake of Kentucky's entire history.

Nate Oats is the best and most realistic candidate right now. I disagree he is not a young Cal. Nate has actually made adjustments to his coaching, and has proven he has the ability to recruit and coach a squad who had multiple players be drafted to the NBA the previous season, and take them to the final four.
Also, I never thought Alabama would be a successful basketball program until Nate Oats came in. Kentucky need to make him his first priority

Gotta be Chris Beard for Kentucky. In 3 SHORT YEARS Beard turned Texas Tech around - won the Big12 regular season, Beard won Big12 coach of the year (twice) AND took Texas Tech to their first national championship game ever. Beard then went on to Texas to fix Shaka Smart's failing mess. In 2 SHORT YEARS Beard built a team that won the Big12 and made it to the elite 8. While Shaka at Texas before that missed March Madness 3 times and lost in the round-of-64 three times. Also Chris Beard comes from great coaching pedigree - assisted with Bobby Knight.
Thank you. Mitch won’t hire him but if he was serious of winning now and getting top guys it’s a no brainer. Beard is the next big coach he just needs the school to back him. Ole miss is not the place and he would jump at the chance.

Instead Calipari left and now Barnhart is holding the bag scrambling instead of being in control of the situation. Chris Beard has baggage but he's proven and young. Imagine what he could do with NIL?

Im completely sold on Nate Oats. He won big with a hard-nosed defensive team. He got a #1 seed with a team built around two lottery picks. And he just got to Final Four with a roster of portal scraps. He has proven to be a good HS/AAU recruiter, he's great at picking portal guys that fit his system to a T. He plays the same style as Pitino did in the 90's at Kentucky but maybe even better. He one of the best analytics guys in CBB on his payroll so you know he's not to act too big time to embrace little things like analytics and scouting reports that Cal mocked. Hell he had managers posted up courtside calling out plays to help them execute and win. Cal would never do stuff like that.

Also, Alabama made the final four with a team of portal scraps and probably had zero NBA players on the roster...meanwhile.. UK went 0-2 in the postseason after an underachieving regular season with 7 NBA players.

Been down on Cal since he refused to put booker an ulis back in the game against Wisconsin in 2015. Haven't felt he was ever good in clutch coaching situations in his entire career. Now hopefully getting guys drafted won't be the biggest part of our sales pitch to recruiting.

Dauster makes it sound like living in Lexington is the worst place on earth! It's a really nice mix of modern city infrastructure wise and southern charrm. You have access to a private plane and can be in NYC in 2 hours. If Joanne Pitino could tolerate Lexington for 8 years in the 90's, im sure Hurleys wife will find it fun. Freaking Storrs is a crumbling cow town scarred with acid rain and pollution.

The only time Carolina ever hired the hot name was an alumni. Kentucky needs to find their guy. ESPN has everyone worried about winning press conferences when you don't become blue blood winning press conferences. Beard may work. Hurley could win anywhere. Buy is he a Kentucky coach? No, he isn't. Neither is Few, Drew, or any of those hot names. Historically a Kentucky would hire a guy like Alan Huss and have a HOF coach noone saw coming. It's something deeply wrong at Kentucky. Probably need to get rid of that AD.
