What a great video! Like you, my favorite Barbie era will always be the vintage era, but this is a very fun and colorful time though. As a child of the 60s, along with two GI Joes, I had a Ken from around 1970. I still have him, and I think his avocado green & clear plastic box as well. I remember him coming in a red swimsuit and matching red shirt. After going to my first concert, The Carpenters, in 1971 at age 10, I remember only wanting to dress him in white pants and his red shirt as that is what Richard Carpenter was wearing during the concert. It's amazing the memories these dolls can hold for us from our childhood days! Anyway, loved the video and glad you home safe & sound.
Omg! Dramatic living Barbie’s feet can be molded to fit into heels! 😮 I didn’t know that! 😅 Thanks for sharing!
The MOD era is my favorite. My sister and cousins had all of the mod dolls-fun times!!😊
I love Francie, to me she's like the first "petite" Barbie, she's so cute!
Wonderful video--thank you so much for educating us. Though I lived through the era, I didn't have all the facts. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great to see you've made it back to your home safe & sound!!! Really neat that your mom was in a Mattel commercial! Way cool! I love the Mod era Barbie & friends I think they were the best time for those dolls especially the dudes both Ken & Brad were beautiful types! I've always liked the long haired blonde/ platinum Stacey!! Super hard to find nonetheless!! Well, guy, happy return home!!!🎉🎉🎉
How cool that your mom was in that Sunshine family commercial! That really does give you a connection to Barbie! I remember the Sunshine dolls, although I had long since aged out of dolls by then. My Barbie days ended in early 1964 (with the arrival of the Beatles), and I enjoy getting a look at the mod era dolls and fashions that came along after that, so thanks for your video!
Thank you for watching ❤️
I took my Blonde Talking Barbie who was just a head and rebodied her on a Made to Move body and dressed her in a wild outfit I pieced together from actual Mod Era pieces, some current items and stuff from Ali Express. She is my Rainbow Hippie Flower Child Barbie! Cool thing is she still has what I believe are her original hair ribbons! The Mod Era is one of my faves although I was born in the 1980s....
There's a Brady Bunch connection that deals with my mom (sort of...) In the Season one episode "The Undergraduate" there's a scene with Mrs. Brady and Alice looking through Greg's school annual... The prop Florence Henderson is holding is a 1969 Hollywood High School Poinsettia yearbook! My mom was a Junior that year at said school! The publisher misspelled her last name so even the TV used copy would have the error! ...
My mom actually graduated from Burlingame High in 1970 and I was surprised that the outside of the school was used in Dangerous Minds!
Beautiful collection! Those Francie dolls are especially darling. Love how fun and vibrant the Mod era was for Barbie!
Thanks for the new video. The dolls that were brought in for the exchange for a new Barbie and the old dolls were given to charity or daycare.
Oh wow, thanks for sharing! I was worried they might have been melted down for plastic, haha. What you shared could explain why we've been lucky to see so many on the second-hand market!
Such a great video 🤩💖🌸 love your tiny but great Mod collection ☺️💖 amazing that your mom was in a Mattel comercial so cool 🤩
Thank you!!
This video was fascinating! I loved the history you gave for Barbie's mod era, and I have a Francie that I got when I was very young. Thank you for sharing. I'm also really glad to hear you were able to get back home. Be safe!
Thank you very much!
As a kid in the late ‘60’s, the 1967 TNT Barbie with that orange & white net cover-up is iconic. The ‘youthful’ MOD fashion trend was unprecedented. It influenced clothing & accessories for all generations, from kids to older adults . Thus, even Skipper got MOD! Barbie’s MOD wardrobe is spot-on! Though I collect all eras of Barbie, MOD holds a special, nostalgic place for me. Glad you’re enjoying the MOD era! Stacey & Christie are definite must-haves :)
When in school, we are taught that things that were made of plastic or wood were referred to as "it". Which meant something not alive like a human. However, we played barbies like they were like people. Children played with barbies and so do women, still. This helps keep the inner child in us alive. We used barbies for making ideas for clothing and furniture. Giving us the opportunity to be creators, ourselves.
I love your collection😍The Mod Barbie era is the grooviest!
Wow! Btw I’m probably about the same age as your mom, so cool that she was in the sunshine family commercial.
You share a lot of really beautiful dolls in this video. I like the content you`re showing.
Very fun video; I didn’t know that about the Barbie’s feet being bendable to fit the shoes. My first Barbie doll was the red haired Stacey in the red swimsuit. I don’t have her anymore, but I did find a replacement at Barbie Convention sales room a few years ago.
Wonderful video! Can you share which shop in Los Angeles you found the Ken? I've only been able to find vintage dolls at the Sherman Oaks antique mall and Burbank antiques (now closed). Thanks!
Yes! It’s called All Things and More, located in San Fernando. Fair warning-it’s extremely cluttered and a bit overwhelming, but if you’re up for the hunt, you can find some great treasures. As for the antique mall in Sherman Oaks, their prices just got out of hand. I had to stop going after seeing a case with two number 4s last year priced at nearly $2,000-pretty wild, haha!
Fantastic video! Congratulations on that great Ken deal!!🎉
Francie is Fab!
Great revirw Ian. That was great about your mom and I'm very glad you escaped the fires
Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you!
Hello 🥰 I adore your collection! I love the blonde Francie with rooted eyelashes and brown eyes 💖I had her when i was a little girl. I was born in 1960 and of all the dolls i had i miss her the most besides my collection of Dawn dolls.I love your whole collection though and really, really hope to get a Francie again someday.I love their outfits. They are so bright and pretty and i think Francie has the prettiest face. It is so cool that your Mom was in the Sunshine Family commercial! She was a cutie 🥰I think you look a lot like her 😊I am so glad your home survived and you were able to return. It must have been nice visiting your family home though. I wish i had more time with my family. I only have one Uncle left and a couple cousin's. Enjoy any time you can spend with your family. Time passes too quickly. This was a really nice video and i enjoyed it a lot 😊Enjoy your Beautiful dolls! Liked and subscribed. Have a Great day and stay safe! 💖💖
Francie is so special! I got one for just $40 on Mercari-great deals pop up! I see a resemblance to my mom too, haha. My parents are just a few hours away, so I visit as often as I can. Thanks for watching!
I love Francie and have many. I played with mine so much when I was little. I loved her hair and her fashions more than Barbie.
What about PJ?
I completely forgot to mention PJ and Brad! I don’t have many Mod dolls in my collection, so it’s a bit harder to keep track of them all - but they’re fantastic dolls!
❤❤❤❤❤😊
Hey, Ian!
Do you like to listen to music of the mid 60s and early 70s when interacting with Mod dolls and fashions?
i get such a kick out of doing that. i have a nice collection of Mod fashions, but there is SO much more to get.
i have only a handful of Mod dolls. i like them, but i prefer to blend Mod with Superstar.
There is something that i find so gratifying about dressing my Superstar dolls in Mod clothing.
i even like to dress my G.I. Joes in Mod Ken clothes but, of course, i'm very limited with my Joes because they're so muscular.
Thank you for sharing that bit of Mattel history with your mother. That very much IS a cool story, and i would love to know more.
Are there any more details on which you could expound in a future video?
i'm interested to know how your mother got the job. Also, i would like to know if you've ever done any modeling or commercial work.
Hi Blake! I haven’t listened to music while dressing my dolls, but it sounds relaxing! When I cover my small '70s collection, I might share my mom’s commercial story in greater detail and mention the Sunshine Family dolls - it's a fun backstory. I only did background work with a small agency in high school, but this channel fills that creative void I never fully explored.
