The photo at 10.32 is mislabelled. This was a store where they kept cranes and equipment. There WAS a horse tram depot in Broad Street but it was situated further up the road near to the Round Tower.
Contrast the Star & Garter Hotel at 2:25 and at 4:14. I can remember my Godfather telling me that he was staying in a hotel in Portsmouth-and then got ordered to sail a day early- and the hotel he had been staying in took a direct hit that night- he was lucky!
Thanks for putting this together, would you have any photos of No.8 Broad Street around 1900, I can't seem to find any images for it, I believe it was the Arethusa & Circe public house.
Hope all those owners of houses that were built on the old Vosper`s shipyard site made sure that all contaminated land was removed before they splashed out the cash ...... having worked there i for one would have found a better place to build houses on.
