Hello James, In Ohio a tradition of the company I used to work for , was after a Big pour of concrete the Boss would buy dinner This is after a Good 15 hour day of pushing Mud (concrete ). I loved It !! All dirty eating with Friends. Made me work harder for the Boss Good Times !!!!!
I'll be out there with the crew vibrating the concrete as well. I'll take some breaks to get some drone video. You want to come over and buy us some dinner? 😉
Hi James. Just butting in. I suggest a huge decorative ceiling fan for the great room with, of course, the obligatory sliding screen doors to accomodate the fresh air coming from the patios. A standard ceiling fan will be perfect for both the dining room and kitchen. Just suggesting. 😊
Dan, you just not going to let me surprise you with anything, are you? 😉 Drop down ceiling fan from the vaulted ceiling and dual sliding tempered glass doors in uPVC. No ceiling fan for dining room...just chandelier. Good suggestions...we're thinking the same!
Well we know that your laptop survived which we are all happy about! Seems like you've made a few thousand decisions already, and oh boy, lots more to come as things progress. Can't wait to see the drone shots of your slab and beam pours!
i think this might be a day late and two pennies shy. i've been browsing the net for constructions in the pi and this is THE BEST!!! only regret is i just caught your channel a week ago. funny, the initial vid was episode 102 which i didn't finish since it certainly got me starting from the very first episode. now i'm glued to your channel and on episode 60 as we speak. i can't wait to get to the current episodes, i'm not gonna cheat and jump ahead to later episodes but i can peep, right? nope my ocd won't allow me to skip, i'd really hate to miss out on the good stuff. i'll catch up and you just keep doing the good things that you're doing!!! mabuhay!!!
I'm just like you B-Boy. I wouldn't allow myself to skip to the end of a novel and read the ending. THere's lots of little nuggets in each episode that you shouldn't miss. Take your time and enjoy. You'll be up to date before you know it. Thanks for watching!
B.G. Dismal, at least you were not 3, yes three, years late. My wife Gloria, and I are going to retire to PI in several years from today, today being November 14, 2020. And James, if you revisit past replies to earlier episodes, my wife and I started watching a bout a couple of weeks ago, (long story). Anyway, I have started watching at least 10 episodes a day, starting with day 1. I am on episode 60. I hope to catch up with you sometime in the year 2021!
hi James, I think good decision on just putting AC in the master bed, that's all we have n is no problem, we just use fans in the living spaces, also AC sucks the power so $ saved, you can always add more AC later on, pretty hard to get the house just how you want it first go
I think you're right about only selecting the AC for the upstairs MB. I've been in plenty of folks houses around here and fans are just fine for the lower living spaces. Also, you're correct. Its hard to get all the details you want done on the first go around but with good supervision, you can minimize what you need to change later. You don't see all the little details I'm correcting on a daily basis. My vlog would be like War & Peace 😉
Awesome channel James. It only gets better and better. I just want to thank you in advance because this is going to save me a lot of headaches when I rebuild my dads house in Cebu.
HI. Have you thought about a mini chiller in the generator room. It'll produce chilled water and you can circulate the water to coils in the great room with a pump in the basement. Plus, you can set pipes in the walls in preparation for other rooms. Just thinking about the future when it's time to sell etc. It's a very common system used in highrise and hotels where people can adjust the temperature in each room by setting the thermostat in each room that limits the water flow. Keeps the mould down too,
James, before I found out about Tierra Maria, I considered getting a place in Cuenca, the town at the foot of Mount Maculot. Advantages: the temperature year-round is generally 3-4 degrees cooler than in Manila, and plentiful water to sustain deepwells. No subdivisions, though.
Smart choice not using the large stand up units for the great room. Those units are pretty loud, and in a small room that would be quite a detraction. I'm sure you have seen and heard them in nearby businesses around there. The only other room that I would think might have heat issues would be the kitchen, and a good bit of your time will be spent in there, from the sounds of it (based on your previous vid comments).
Yes, the big units are quite loud. They have several of them in the club house and its annoying at the least. We'll have an overhead fan for the stovetop to help pull out the heat and smell when cooking. Other than that, we'll just have to run a fan there. Yes, we'll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen. My wife is a great cook and I love to eat...we make a great team 😉
We were told the same thing - our 850sqft great room is too big for one split unit... but I told them to just put in their highest BTU split unit anyway! Glad we did, although it's not used often (couple of times a month) it's nice to have. And sure, it doesn't have the power to cool the entire space perfectly, but it's a real comfort when it's needed. If I were you, I'd just put a the highest BTU unit in the dining room with the understanding that it's not going to cool the entire space to perfection - especially considering the ceiling fan will assist in that comfort.
You maybe right and I might regret it but I think I'm still going with aircon only in the MB. I asked several of the homeowners here. Most either have no aircon in their houses or only in the bedroom and they say that works fine for them. We'll see.
My PI Dream really the only times we use it - when we have guests, when the air pollution gets a little thick, when it's just too blazing hot. If you don't foresee those circumstances or if you can just retreat to the bedroom, you'll be fine. Definitely a nice to have, not a must.
morning James, how about a whole house attic fan? I mentioned in an earlier vid about a solar chimney to pull the cool air out of the basement. If you don't think it will be that cool down there just get a thermometer and check the temp coming out of your water tap at the site. We did get a shower heater didn't we??? oh, thanks for doing what you do!
My morning before going to work is drinking coffee, watching some news, and then while I am ironing my clothes I watch your episodes. Is your air con going to be wall units? Is central air something that isn't done like in the US?
Those floors are looking good, on the big pour how many yards of concrete are you pouring? Another great vid! Also what is the size of the main septic tank?
Don´t you think that the generator is a noisy staff to have right below your head ? I had noisy problems in the past due to things like a water pump right under my room, so i will never put any noisy thing below my head again as far as i can decide what to do: Also those Air con engines are not too silent, so i would rather put it all far from me!
Water pump is under the laundry room. And the generator is under the spare bedroom. Generator is just an emergency solution for extended brownouts so it should be fine. Remember, nothing can match living with 20 roosters. 😉
Hello, James. Concerning solar panels, there are low profile solar roofing shingles on the market. I don't know the pricing or location of nearby sales, but I first saw them online at www.sunstyle.com. Take care!
For future planning, you might run a gas line in the event that someday you would like to install a gas stove. The bahay kubo's roof may need a repair from the original manufacture...do they have any waranty?
Do they have the portable roll around type of Air Con units over there that vent out the window? That type you could take out of the closet only when you need it and plug it in and put the vent hose in the window. When you are done it all goes back in storage. I had a 6000 BTU one that cooled the whole first floor of my house with a little help from a fan or 2 on the floor.
James, are you thinking about the power supply circuits for the emergency generator. What can the generator run. Are the AC unit be on the generator supply. Can you run one AC unit for one room on a circuit ?
Generator will run to a transfer switch next to the CBR panel. We haven't select the generator yet. Since the generator will be a manual start, it doesn't matter if the aircon is on the same circuit. Since we haven't sourced the generator yet, I couldn't tell you if it would support the aircon. We probably won't use it during an outage and just need to make sure its off before we start the generator and do the transfer.
I like your channel and you appear to be a great guy. Have you considered changing your videos up a little? They seem to be running together like the movie, " Groundhog Day (1993) Also, are you this happy 24/7? 🙏🏻 Thank you, sir.
Sorry Expat N Training but the whole idea is to show the experience of details and what you would expect if you were building a house yourself. I do changes ups on occasion for restaurant reviews and human interest stories and "how to" special interest items. When the house is complete, there'll be lots of different topics like travel, gardening, and of course, more "how to" series. Thanks for watching!
Maybe it is just the angle as you walk up to the truck each day but it looks like you park blocking the road. Is that an optical illusion? Won't some of the residents already living there be getting aggravated?
The subdivision only uses one of the two lanes for ingress and egress of the subdivision main gate. Security advised me to park where I park every night.
I knew there had to be a logical answer, I just couldn't figure it out. Will you be installing anything to control cracks in the floor? The old saying goes 'We always guarantee our concrete work, it's gonna crack' Controlling the cracks generally results in thin straight cracks, not controlling them is like Forest Gump's chocolate - you never know what you're going to get.
I think you will regret the lack of ac in lounge/kitchen/dining rooms, I have ac in every room even if it's only set to reduce humidity I have it on most days now
James, I'm sorry to beat a dead horse but I want to ask one thing of you in re: the air con. Please take a quiet time and picture a summer day in the Philippines with twenty guests wandering around the house and yard for a party or some kind of business or political or just friendship event. A lot of them brought food that needs to be kept warm. And before you eat, the whole group assembles in the great room/kitchen/dining room. The temperature outside is 104. People are in and out so the heat blasts in every time the door is opened. I'm an older person and suffer from COPD. Heat is a serious problem for people like me. I appreciate your invitation (if there ever is one) for a pot luck event but I think I'd better not. Okay - I'll hush now. I hope you're not offended but I am truly worried about the matter and hope that you will address it a little more aggressively now rather than try to correct it down the road. I don't want you to wind up scratching through the "Feliz" on the sign over the door.
104? Not in Lipa. The climate here is much milder than most of the Philippines. I don't know that many people here that have aircon in their houses and those who do tell me they don't use them except sometimes in the bedrooms just before bedtime to help rid the humidity.
your audio is good sometimes but will also be very muffled other times in some your recent videos. bob. not wind noise james. what bank serves you best? heard you are former air force? did 8 great years at clark . coming up on 50 years of bliss with my mrs. great channel.
I was snoozing this morning. Good morning James.
Morning Arturo.

I love that area near Maculot. Was there for fiesta in San Jose on Monday. Its beautiful in that area!
Good morning/evening.. The big six zero!
Oh, though you were making fun of my age 😳
Good morning Ronald!
I'm pushing 75 soooo 60 is just a baby. haha

No attic. We're confirmed on the solar hot water heater.
Thanks for the info Tim and Elvie!
Thank you !!! Wow 36c at 8.30 am Wow you really need to insulate well that house!!!!
Thank You James, we really like what you are doing, God Bless
Thanks Merlin!
My morning before going to work is drinking coffee, watching some news, and then while I am ironing my clothes I watch your episodes. Is your air con going to be wall units? Is central air something that isn't done like in the US?
As I was typing you answered my question on wall units.
Its amazing how much the final aircon configuration did change from just the one-bedroom to over four units?
3 units.
Hey you can always get a big umbrella and stick it right over the top peak of that B/K on the outside.
I really need to address this. Wouldn't worry but we have electricity there. Let's see if we can't something to deflect the water.
James I can't believe there digging the septic tank by hand. If you where asked to do that in Australia they would walk off the job site,
If they were asked in the U.S., they'd never even show up for work. 😉
It's all manual labor in PI, I believe the hollow blocks are make on site too.
The hollow blocks are delivered
Peter T lol
I have lived there before and I'm supporting my family there I know what's it's like
Those floors are looking good, on the big pour how many yards of concrete are you pouring? Another great vid! Also what is the size of the main septic tank?
Not sure what my builder ordered for the pour. Septic tank is 2500cm x 4700cm x 1800cm.
Thanks for the kind words!

another great video as always James really enjoy your videos can't wait for end of September when I make my move to the Philippines
Thanks! Every day is an adventure!
Hello, James. Concerning solar panels, there are low profile solar roofing shingles on the market. I don't know the pricing or location of nearby sales, but I first saw them online at www.sunstyle.com. Take care!
I received the solar tech solution yesterday. I'll share today. Thanks!
For future planning, you might run a gas line in the event that someday you would like to install a gas stove. The bahay kubo's roof may need a repair from the original manufacture...do they have any waranty?
Good idea but I think we'll only keep a portable gas stove for emergencies. I need to check with the bah kubo guy to see what can be done. Thanks!
Are you getting ready mix concrete trucks for your pour? There are a few companies in the Philippines.
Yes.
The best way to go. Plus you can do slump testing.
Do they have the portable roll around type of Air Con units over there that vent out the window? I THINK SO! MY PI DREAM GOLD STAR OF THE DAY! ⭐️
Monday for the pour would be better..Saturdays (with the next day off) can be iffy days..

Hi James what kind of camera you using
GoPro Hero 5 Black.
Hi James. At 7.44min you say 100cm. I'm sure everyone realises you mean 100mm.
Oops! Man, you guys catch everything! 😉
James, maybe I missed the episode but will you have a flat roof like David and Reah's home?
No Arturo, not flat. If I remember tomorrow, I'll show the roof design for you.
Please also share what type of insulations you're gonna have for the roof or should I say ceiling.
James, I'm liker #100 today... I over slept. LOL
Foil reflective insulation under the roofing tiles. I think I showed it in several videos. Can't remember which episodes though.
