You're back, we have missed you.
StitchMethod feels like the Daniel Day-Lewis of online guitar teachers. He doesn't post videos often, but when he does, we all know we're in for something good. I always learn something valuable that I wouldn't have learned anywhere else. Thank you, Ian!
"Not proud of that moment"? We here on this side are proud of your contribution to fellow guitarists.
The only Phish concert I ever went to was about 30 years ago at SPAC. I was a teenager and didn't have a weed hookup, but I did have a lighter and good peripheral vision. Whenever I would see some movement around me during the concert, I would offer my lighter and whoever was packing the bowl or rolling the joint would include me in the rotation. That was the highest I've ever gotten in my life.
This dude is one of the best instructors on UA-cam. CAGED and arpeggios made no sense to me until I started working my way through his lessons. Do I still suck? Yes, but now I know why I suck and what I have to do to improve.
Man so glad to see that friendly face again. You look well. Welcome back.
Ian your enthusiasm is contagious!
Done this without realising many times.. it's so refreshing and inspiring to see you put this into words!! Thank you 🙏🕊️
rule of threes also is in comedy and movies visual arts. very interesting discovery
Life always feel a little brighter when Stich posts
This it's the best guitar UA-cam channel!
Cheers from spain
Your creative energy is infectious … keep up the good work and cool vibes.😊
Stich doesn´t post so often, but for me I´d rather find a gold coin once a month, than a penny once a week.
It's basically a simplified version of classical Sentence Structure, Period is the other structure you can base riffs off of.
Ian, I love watching your creative process in "real time." It's like you see the notes/riffs/melody somewhere up in space then you pluck it out of the air, and it comes out your fingers onto the fretboard. Another great lesson!
Hear, hear!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Very astute observation. Thinking in terms of 3 to 1 simplifies the creativity process and gives us structure. I once heard a classical musician say music loves to organize itself in groups of 3s.
Very very cool. It makes sense why it works too!
Thanks so much for your time. Brilliant. Much appreciated
Thanks again for the GratefulEgos shoutout! Just listened to Baba O'Reiley. Seems like a 4+1 thing on that there song.
Still learning, still teaching, still excited. There's nothing better!
Very Nice SG
Great lesson and love the colors on that SG.
Yes, what a lesson. Thank you.
Great explanation and tip! Thanks!!!
Missed you bud! I love your videos man, thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge.
Thank you for sharing such a great idea! Pulling knowledge from a dream is great.
Love it. Opens all viewpoints on writing music. Well done. Appreciate you man.
More Dreams please 😊
excellent stitch ty bro🤟😎🎸
I've been missing these. Love your thought process and teachings. Stay Well You Groovy Dead Head!
Very cool lesson. Can’t wait to give it a try.
Really enjoyed when you said you can throw music to theory out. I tell my musician friends the same thing all the time. Keep spreading the good vibes brother. You rock
Great Lesson, Went into my really good guitar lesson! It is really cool that you put yourself out there, not an easy thing to do. The whole concept is a major component of creativity! Thank you!
Wow this one really unlocked something in me!
Curious to hear from the community about other tried-and-true magic riff writing formulas people commonly use.
Thank you Stitch!
I just stumbled upon your channel and I LOVE IT. The teaching style is so easy to digest, and even as someone who has been playing a while, your lessons remind me of things I am neglecting. Cheers!
Good to see you again Sensei 👋🏽
Stich, you were talking about 3 to one years ago. I got it from you. You said it slightly differently, but you told us about it, and it's helped me a lot. The ear needs something grab on to, you go slightly away, then you come back, more or less.
Digging the new vibe
Thanks man
Lightbulb
Thanks very much for another great lesson.
Working on an EP with a few new songs - gonna have to put this theory to work. For some of our tunes we do this unconsciously. lol. Thanks for pointing it out.
love your lessons as always and thank you so much for your time, would love to see the return of Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin writing/solo breakdown videos! 🖤🙏
Amaze!
brilliant
I'm glad I found you and your channel👍
Me too! Hope you enjoy all the other stuff too.
Brilliant! I guess it’s the same sort of rhythmic principle as having four drum beats in a bar with a fill on beat four, setting a stable repetitive structure to build on but with an added layer of tonality? Maybe. Amazing video though, thanks!
Up early thinking about Dead tunes with this 3:1 thing. Cassidy has TONs of it. I think Sugaree Too. Must've been the Roses.
Ladies and gentleman… this is Jeremy of Gratefulegos.com Go get your stuff now!
Stitch, awesome thanks stitch, real, similar to your suggestions for a one, one variation, different, one. I wonder which one fits particular genres better.
Hey Stitch I found a few more Hells Bells by AC/DC, Layla by Eric Clapton /derek and the dominos (ok the riff stays the same but its when the lead comes in so it still arguably changes the entire song and can be counted as a riff since it repeats plus lets be honest its what we all hear when we think of the song) Sunshine of your love by Cream, Fleetwood Mac's song Hold me, Piano plays a part that changes 3rd bar in the intro, De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da by the Police,Green River by Creedance Clearwater Revivial, Manhattan by Eric Johnson (yes even the mighty EJ has used this).
BOOM! There it is!
Does the Grateful Dead have any 3-1s?
More wisdom please!!! Keep it coming!!!
will work on 3 to 1 it cannot hurt to do so, i am sure it can only help
Another killer video. Thanks for these. Just a few that may fit the pattern.

Dr. FEELGOOD
very nice, Stitch what do you think of the fender vintage era 7.25 fret radius most modern fenders have the 9.25 and since it is thought that chords are easier to make with using a radius, would a 7.25 be a better choice, i know what a 9.25 feels like and i probably have picked up a 7,25 before but its been to long anyway i am going to purchase a new fender im trying to decide between the new pro 2 series which is 9.25 and the vintage 2 series which is where the more curve radius comes in at 7.25 both guitars seem real good so i am hoping to get some of your thoughts on this
Possibly an oversimplification, but I find this example applicable. . . Chris Stapleton's "Whiskey & You". The riff repeated throughout the verses is a simply 3 upward note intervals, followed by 1 downward interval. I guess demonstrates how flexible/versatile applying the principle can be.
Absolutely!
Dynamic...Shambala
Hi, I asked about this little solo a while ago... you think you could teach us this one from Springsteen's "Candy's Room?" It would be a great Holiday gift! Thanks for all you do!

Stich is the best.
Wow! Maybe this idea can help guitar noodlers like me by throwing in that 4th lick. Maybs chromatic steps to get to the 4th. Hey, I'm fairly new, don't laugh.
🎉🎉🎉
I miss the live streams! Do you still have contact with Cheddar KP? 😊
